Increased temperature, decreased water level and reduced culture period of the ponds are considered as major problems for aquaculture promotion in drought prone Barind area of Bangladesh. In order to address these problems, an experiment was conducted to optimize the stocking weight for carp polyculture ponds in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh. Three different stocking weights were tested under three treatments (T1: 25±0.12g; T2: 50± 0.15g; and T3: 100±0.19g), each with three replications. Fish growing period (July-December), carp species (C. catla, H. molitrix, A. nobilis, L. rohita and C. mrigala), stocking density (7,410 fishes/ha), lime and ash treatment, fertilization and feeding were same for all the treatments. Water quality (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, transparency, pH and alkalinity) and fish growth parameters were monitored monthly. Mean values of water quality parameters were found within the suitable range for fish culture. Treatment T3 varied more significantly (P<0.05) than that of other treatments for the mean values of final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, survival rate and yield of fish. Net benefit of carp polyculture was also found significantly (P<0.05) highest with treatment T3.

Freshwater aquaculture is by far the most ancient aquatic living resource production system known in the world. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of prawn and tilapia (male) under different sex (male and female) contribution of prawn in polyculture ponds for a period of four months from September 2010 to December 2010. The experiment was designed with 3 treatments like T1 (All male Tilapia– 4938/ha + All male Prawn 19,753/ha), T2 (All male Tilapia – 4938 / ha + All female Prawn 19,753/ha) and T3 (All male Tilapia – 4938/ decimal + all male Prawn 19876 + all female prawn 19876/ha), each with 2 replications. The mean stocking weight of prawn was 2.87 g and that of tilapia was 37.36 g. Total stocking density of prawn and tilapia (24,691/ha), basal fertilization (Cowdung 2470kg/ha, Urea 50kg/ha and TSP 50kg/ha), periodic fertilization (Cowdung 50kg/ha/day, urea 1.25kg/ha/day and TSP 1.25kg/ha/day) and feeding regime (diet containing 30% protein level at the rate of 2-5% of prawn and fish body weight twice daily) were same for all the treatments. Water quality parameters (water temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, pH, NH3-N and alkalinity) were monitored fortnightly and the growth parameters were monitored monthly. Mean values of water quality parameters were found within the suitable range. Treatment T1 varied more significantly (P<0.05) than that of others for the mean values of growth parameters (final weight, weight gain, SGR, survival rate and yield) of prawn and tilapia.Asian J. Fish growth, yield and economics of polyculture were evaluated for six months from April to September, 2011 in ponds of Kushtia district, Bangladesh under 4 treatments of feeds and weeds as T0: rice bran, wheat bran and mustard oilcake; T1: Azolla; T2: Grass and T3: Banana leaf. Each treatment had 3 replications. Mean initial stocking weight of fishes like Hypophthalmichthyes molitrix, Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Cirrhinus mrigala, Cyprinus carpio, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Barbonymus gonionotus was 62, 64, 57, 54, 63, 65 and 25 g, respectively. Stocking density (11,115 fishes/ha), liming (250 kg/ha), basal fertilization (Cowdung, 1,500 kg/ha; urea, 60 kg/ha; and Triple Super Phosphate, TSP 60 kg/ha) and periodic fertilization (Urea, 2.5 kg/ha/day; and TSP, 2.5 kg/ha/day) were same for all the treatments. Water quality parameters (water temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity and free carbon dioxide) were monitored fortnightly and fish growth parameters (weight gain and Specific Growth Rate, SGR) were monitored monthly. Treatments did not vary significantly for the mean water quality parameters. Treatment T0 varied more significantly (P<0.05) for the mean final weight,  weight gain, SGR, survival rate and yield for almost all the species except C. idella and B. gonionotus. Significantly highest CBR was recorded with treatment T1.

Endangered catfish Rita rita were reared in a cemented raceway to observe the culture potentiality at three different stocking densities (4, 8 and 16 juveniles/m 3) under the three treatments (T1, T2 and T3, respectively) with three replications each. The mean initial length and weight of Rita juveniles were 20.15±1.51 cm and 100.26±6.57 g, respectively. The fish were reared by providing clean poultry viscera (containing 48.56% crude protein) at 3% of biomass once a day. The water quality parameters were measured daily and found them within suitable ranges. The growth parameters such as final mean total length, relative length gain, mean body weight, relative weight gain, SGR and condition factor were significantly (p&lt;0.5) higher in T1 compared to those of T2 and T3. The survival rate was 100% in all the treatments, and the fish production was significantly (p&lt;0.5) higher in T3 (8.38±0.04 kg/m 3 and 8380.40±4.05 kg/ha) than those of T2 (4.49±0.03 kg/m 3 and 4493.00±3.22 kg/ha) and T1 (2.36±0.02 kg/m 3 and 2362.00±2.00 kg/ha). Though the growth performance of R. rita was significantly influenced by the lowest stocking density but the production findings suggest that this species can be reared at the minimum density of 16 juveniles/m 3 in cemented raceway with suitable environment and adequate supplemental feed.

The research work was conducted to evaluate the effects of stocking density on growth, survival and production of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio var. specularis) spawn in nursery pond for a period of 35 days. Three treatments differing in stocking density of hatchling viz., T1:172900 individuals/ha, T2:148200 individuals/ha and T3:123500 individuals/ha were employed each having three replicates. Fries were fed same diet in three different treatments consisting of (28.5%) at the rate of 6-10% of body weight. The Physico-chemical characteristics of pond water were measured weekly. The mean values of some water quality parameters such as temperature (°C) were 30.41 ±1.15 (T1), 30.38±1.08 (T2), 30.45±1.10 (T3); transparency (cm) 40.00±0.90 (T1), 39.74±0.51 (T2), 39.93±0.70 (T3); dissolved oxygen (mg/l) 6.79±0.45 (T1), 6.71±0.38 (T2), 7.02±0.29 (T3); pH 7.55±0.18 (T1), 7.67±0.16 (T2), 7.62±0.20 (T3) and alkalinity (mg/l) 116.20±0.64 (T1), 99.36±0.45 (T2), 96.47±0.93 (T3) from 35 days respectively. Except alkalinity no significant value were found for parameters. Sampling was also done weekly. The mean value of final weight (g) was 0.35±0.004 (T1), 0.42±0.008 (T2), 0.59±0.006 (T3). The survival rate of Cyprinus carpio var. specularis was 54.20% (T1), 62.90% (T2) and 74.56% (T3) respectively. The highest survivability was found in T3. The production (kg/ha) of Cyprinus carpio var. specularis was 76.32±4.96 (T1), 77.60±5.19 (T2), 91.04±6.02 (T3) respectively. Significantly (p< 0.05) highest production was found in T3.Asian J. Med. There is paucity of information regarding efficiency and suitability of most imported floating feeds used for growing catfish in Nigeria. This study therefore determined proximate compositions of three commercial floating fish feeds (Vital Feed, Top Feed and Allier Aqua Feed) and their effects on growth parameters when fed to juvenile African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). 65 litre capacity rectangular plastic tanks were stocked with healthy juveniles catfish of similar average weight were fed with these feeds for a period of 56 days (8weeks at the rate of 20 fish per tank. A triplicate trial was maintained for each feed, totalling nine tanks in all and 60 fish per feed. The tanks were labelled based on the type of feed. The rearing water quality parameters were monitored throughout the experiment. The results indicated that catfish fed with Top Feed had significantly (p80%) were observed in all groups while water quality parameters were not affected due to the feed offered. The results of the proximate composition attested to the fact that feed with high protein and lipid contents results in better fish growth i.e. Top feeds with high protein (45.16±2.73) and Allier Aqua with high (13.00±2.11) content. Variations in growth parameters and estimated cost of feeding observed in the present study imply that catfish that catfish farmers should exercise great caution in selecting commercial floating feeds for their fish since these feeds produce different growth effects on fish.

The research aims to determine the best stocking density in the maintenance of Siamese catfish seedlings based on the influence exerted on the survival of Siamese catfish seeds and improving water quality in the recirculation system. This research was conducted at the Green House Ciparanje FPIK Unpad Jatinangor in August 2019. Maintenance activities are carried out in a 70x70x70 cm fiber equipped with a recirculation system and filled with 150 L of water per fiber. The study was conducted with four stocking solid treatments as follows 375 fry/fiber (treatment A); 450 fry/fiber (treatment B); 525 fry/fiber (treatment C); and 600 fry/fiber (treatment D). Siamese catfish fry is 1 inch in size with an average weight of 0.307 grams. The parameters observed were the survival of Siamese catfish fry and water quality. Water quality measurements include temperature, degree of acidity (pH), and ammonia (NH3). Water quality testing was carried out at the Laboratory of Aquatic Resources, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. During the study, there was no exchange of water or siphon. The method used in this research was analyzed descriptively and compared the results of survival rate fish and water quality parameters toward the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The results showed that the best stocking density was 600 fry/fiber with a survival rate of 100% Siamese catfish and the ammonia value at the beginning of maintenance was 0.140 mg/L and the end of maintenance decreased to 0.137 mg/L.

The study was carried out to assess some physico-chemical water quality parameters and pollution scenario of the Bansi river. Water samples were collected from 8 different selected stations at Bagholpur to Nayarhat portion of Bansi river during winter and monsoon periods. The values of all parameters except temperature and DO were found higher in winter season compared to that of monsoon season. The water was slightly alkaline to strongly alkaline ranging from average pH value of 7.6 in monsoon to 8.5 in winter. The DO was found unsuitable for fisheries and irrigation purposes. The BOD was found extremely higher in winter than that of standard level set by the Government of Bangladesh. The mean values of EC in monsoon was 452.4 ?s/cm, whereas in winter season it was 901 ?S/cm, the value of DO in monsoon season was 4.7 mg/l whereas in winter it was 3.2 mg/l, the value of BOD in monsoon season was 8.9 mg/l and in winter season it was 31.4 mg/l, the value of TDS in monsoon season was 306.3 mg/l and in winter season it was 496 mg/l, the value of alkalinity in monsoon season 50.4 mg/l and in winter season it was 146.5 mg/l.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jesnr.v5i2.14601 J. Stocking density is considered one of the important factors affecting fish growth. The study was aimed to compare the growth parameters of monosex tilapia at various stocking densities. The experiment was carried out during the period from 06 August to 22 December 2014. Three stocking densities were used as 125, 250 and 375 fish/dec and designated as treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively each having two replicates. All the fishes were of same age group having average initial body weight of 1.34g. A commercial feed was supplied at the rate of 40% of the body weight and then gradually it was readjusted to 20%, 10%, 5% and 3% respectively and continued up to the end of the experiment. The water quality parameters were monitored at 14 days interval and the ranges were: temperature 19.34 to 31.40°C, pH 6.83 to 8.03, dissolved oxygen 4.78 to 6.82 mg/l and transparency 29.02 to 49.45cm.The result of the present study showed that the mean weight gain was significantly (P<0.01) highest in T1(120.58g) followed by T2(89.74g) and T3(74.58g).The average specific growth rates (SGR) was 2.590, 2.560 and 2.598 (%/day) in treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively. There was significant (P<0.01) differences among the survival rate. The survival rate 87% was significantly highest in T1followed by 76% in T2 and 69% in T3.The fish productions were 13.25, 17.30 and 19.64 kg/decimal in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Although the highest production was obtained in T3 but individually growth performance of monosex tilapia was highest in T1. The highest net profit was found (BDT 3,373.30) inT1compared toT2 (BDT 3,017) and T3 (BDT 2,918). The highest benefit cost ratio (BCR) was 1.79 in T1followed by 1.44 in T2and 1.28 in T3. Based on the result of present experiment, fish farmers might be suggested to rear tilapia at lower stocking density to get higher growth, survival and benefit in a short period of time.Asian J. Med. Aquaponics is the combined culture of fish and plants in recirculating aquaculture systems, an ecologically sustainable horticultural production technique with long traditions. The objective of this study is to compare flood-and- drain, and the water crossflow system and examine the differences in the water quality, fish yield and plant growth parameters for Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and basil (Ocimum basilicum). During the study, water quality parameters of two treatments were compared in temperatures, pH, EC and NO3¯N were significantly different (p <0.05). Leaf area of the basil plants grew to an average of 20.37 cm2 (± 9.02 cm2). The plants’ biomass production was significantly different (p< 0.05) in the two systems. The biomass production showed lower yield, 458.22 g (± 214.59 g) in the constant flow system that in the flood- and- drain system 692.9 g (± 175.82 g). Fish Growth parameters were better in constant flow system (FCR 5.48 g/g ± 0.19). However, the specific growth rate (SGR) demonstrated that fish grew faster in flood- and- drain system 1.38 %/day (± 0.29).

The present study was conducted over 4 months during 1st September to 30th December 2005 to observe the effects of stocking density on growth and survival of Thai Sharpunti, Barbodes gonionotus in 3 earthen ponds of size of 2.8    decimal each. The stocking densities of 80, 100 and 120 fish/decimal were treated as T1, T2 and T3, respectively. All    the treatments were subjected to the same feeding regime and fertilization. The range of water quality parameters    such as temperature were 30.31, 30.16 and 29.65 0C, transparency were 29.94, 37.63, and 40.02 cm, water depth    were 143.91, 148.67 and 151.54 cm, dissolved oxygen were 4.72, 4.35 and 4.24 mg/l, pH were 7.71, 7.49 and 7.31,    plankton biomass were 43.05 x 105 /l, 37.97 x 105 /l and 36.05 x 105 /l in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Among the    growth parameters, mean weight gain were 48.87 g, 41.43 g and 34.09 g, percent weight gain were 698.21%,    591.93% and 487%, the average daily gains were 1.65, 1.54 and 1.20 g, the specific growth rate were 1.73, 1.61 and    1.47%, in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. The gross total productions of Barbonymus gonionotus were 1041.96, 1085.71    and 1019.64 kg/ha/120 days while the net productions were 911.60, 929.46 and 846.43 kg/ha/120 days in T1, T2 and    T3, respectively.
