The report is supposed to consider the problems of systematization of the terminology system of the linguistics metalanguage, as well as to give an analytical review of Russian dictionaries of linguistic terminology, which would reveal: (1) the way of organizing dictionary materials, (2) the coverage of special vocabulary, (3) the degree of informative content of the dictionary article, (4) chronological shifts in the understanding and designations of the corresponding linguistic phenomena and in the composition of dictionaries of normative linguistic terminology. In addition, terminological word usage is taken into account in publications that appeared in one of the leading and authoritative academic publications "Questions of Linguistics" for the period from 1952 to 2021.

This article provides a methodological introduction to the issues and questions raised in the dossier: How can we attribute a date to ancient papyri when it is not indicated in the text? What methods have been employed so far for dating and how reliable are they? What kind of conscious and unconscious biases underpin the attribution of a date to Christian papyri in particular? Is scientific analysis a more reliable means than palaeography to establish the age of composition of an ancient text? After discussing some research performed on papyri from the Rylands collection, bearing early Christian texts, the author addresses some of the strengths and pitfalls of any of the methods currently available, ranging from palaeography to radiocarbon dating and Raman spectroscopy. In conclusion, it is argued that more clarity and transparency are needed in the way motivations for attributing a date to a fragment are provided in academic publications and that only a multidisciplinary approach can partially overcome the problems at stake.

Religion has always been playing a very important role in the lives of all humans since the very beginning of life. Historians believe that there has never been lack of divine guidance in any period of time ever since the existence of human race, but with the passage of time the teachings of Islam were perverted and different religions and civilizations came into existence, some of which diminished with time while others adopting their teachings according to the modern and changing conditions continued to exist. However, religious teachings have always dominated other forces in the world mainly because of visionary efforts and a continued chain of prophets. Apart from Islam other religions also had their influnce on the systems. The study of religions has always been a well-established tradition among the researchers and thinkers who have always focused on this aspect of learning which paved the way to producing books of immense scholastic quality. People in different parts of the world had been expressing their opinions about the teaching of religions. Religious teachings were also debated in our part of the world-the sub-continent- which is evident from the writings of Hafiz Muhammad Shariq in his book “A detailed Study of Hindusim” which led to the opening of many gateways of research for knowledge seekers. In this article an analytical review of the special work of Muhammad Shariq on Hinduism is carried out.

AbstractAlthough The Triumph of Time is one of Birtwistle's most celebrated early pieces very little has been written about it to date. Probably the most comprehensive analytical review appeared in Michael Hall's 1984 biography Harrison Birtwistle. This was largely valuable for presenting, in the context of a well-informed account of the composer's early output, particular aspects of Birtwistle's intention. Others have added little, while some remarks made by the composer in various interviews have seemed so strangely contradictory that they can only be evaluated by an independent idea of how the structure works from the evidence of the score itself. The method of approach becomes a major aspect of the discussion and analysis presented. In considering the dramatic superstructure, the way detail fits into this, and the relationship with the eponymous Bruegel etching, the aim of the current article has been to consider the work ‘on its own terms’ as far as possible.

Amidst the increasing calls for the decolonisation of universities, this article interrogates the representation of East Asian students in Western academia. It is argued that East Asian students are often imagined in Orientalist ways, as can be evidenced by evaluating the depiction of East Asian students in academic publications. More specifically, it is suggested that common perceptions of East Asian students as lacking in critical thinking may unwittingly reinforce stereotypes that are rooted in historic narratives which depict East Asians as inferior to (white) Westerners. This article also explores the way in which East Asian academics and students may also subscribe to these Orientalist perceptions. Finally, this article offers a refutation of the stereotype that East Asian students struggle with critical thinking and it suggests that being more reflexive about the way that we imagine ethnic minority students should be a key component of our efforts to decolonise the university.

It is stressed the importance of historical study of a term in order to trace its development and to predict further evolution. The study of the linguistic history is intended to help deepen knowledge about its terminology system, enriching terminological dictionary with “retrospective” of a given term, useful for understanding the difficult path that passes nomination during its existence. On the material of grammars, dictionaries and scientific works formal and semantic modifications of the linguistic term are presented. The model of the historical passport of a term is given, which consists of a registry term, the most ancient term fixation, its formal and semantic modifications, present term fixation and research comments according to the analyzed term. We consider it as a full source of information about its evolution and the first step before compiling the historical dictionary of linguistic terms. We conclude that the way of the proposed term history representation can be used to study the historical retrospective of any branch terminology.

Previous work has demonstrated that certain speech patterns vary systematically between sociodemographic groups, so that in some cases the way a person speaks is a valid cue to group membership. Our work addresses whether or not participants use these linguistic cues when assessing a speaker’s likely political identity. We use a database of speeches by U.S. Congressional representatives to isolate words that are statistically diagnostic of a speaker’s party identity. In a series of four studies, we demonstrate that participants’ judgments track variation in word usage between the two parties more often than chance, and that this effect persists even when potentially interfering cues such as the meaning of the word are controlled for. Our results are consistent with a body of literature suggesting that humans’ language-related judgments reflect the statistical distributions of our environment.

In this article authors take into consideration usage of the verb "point out" in journalistic materials on the basis of reference literature and their own editorial experience. The article focuses on explanation of the meaning of these word in Ukrainian dictionary in eleven tomes and Dictionary of the Ukrainian language online. Materials for analysis are selected from the Ukrainian national daily newspaper "The Day", which is one of the most popular publications in the ranking of national media. It is noted that the token "point out" is correctly used to denote "a gesture, a movement directed somewhere, at someone, something, to draw attention to someone or something; show… point the way… a model for something… mark, highlight, name something, making known, noticeable… paying attention to something, explain, reveal its essence… order someone, make remarks, give orders, to teach…". And in other cases it is necessary to use not Russianism "point out", but "to mark", "to note down", "to fix", "to write", "to submit", "to testify" etc. Correctly write "on the back of the picture the journalist wrote (noted, took notes)…"; "Indicate (submit, write) in the feminine name"; "In the declaration to submit (indicate, write) types of income", "in the section record data on types and amounts of income", "indicate place of residence, series and number of passport, identification code…", "information will not be submitted"; "Indicate (write) in documents", "record (indicate) the year of birth on the envelope"; "Less than 25 patients per 100,000 inhabitants of the country testify…". It is emphasized that the accuracy of word usage depends on the availability, aesthetic impact and effectiveness of newspaper publications.

AbstractThe problem of extended fusion and identification can be approached from a diachronic perspective. Based on our own research, as well as findings from the fields of social, political, and clinical psychology, we argue that the way contemporary emotional events shape local fusion is similar to the way in which historical experiences shape extended fusion. We propose a reciprocal process in which historical events shape contemporary identities, whereas contemporary identities shape interpretations of past traumas.
