AbstractWe consider the equation {-\Delta_{p}u=f(u)} in a smooth bounded domain of {\mathbb{R}^{n}}, where {\Delta_{p}} is the p-Laplace operator. Explicit examples of unbounded stable energy solutions are known if {n\geq p+\frac{4p}{p-1}}. Instead, when {n<p+\frac{4p}{p-1}}, stable solutions have been proved to be bounded only in the radial case or under strong assumptions on f. In this article we solve a long-standing open problem: we prove an interior {C^{\alpha}} bound for stable solutions which holds for every nonnegative {f\in C^{1}} whenever {p\geq 2} and the optimal condition {n<p+\frac{4p}{p-1}} holds. When {p\in(1,2)}, we obtain the same result under the nonsharp assumption {n<5p}. These interior estimates lead to the boundedness of stable and extremal solutions to the associated Dirichlet problem when the domain is strictly convex. Our work extends to the p-Laplacian some of the recent results of Figalli, Ros-Oton, Serra, and the first author for the classical Laplacian, which have established the regularity of stable solutions when {p=2} in the optimal range {n<10}.

The paper studies the influence of the geometric parameters of the mixer on the mixing process, the construction of the mixing body, its location in the mixer bulk, and the mixer shape and geometry. The technique of calculating the power spent on mixing the foam concrete mixture is described. The effects of the ratio of the mixture height to the mixer diameter, the number and width of reflective partitions, and the shape of the conical part of the mixer on the homogeneity of the foam concrete mixture and the power consumption are considered. The optimal ratios of the foam concrete mixture height to the mixer diameter have been determined. Moreover, the optimal range of the ratios of the partition width to the mixer diameter has been established, in order to obtain a homogeneous foam concrete mixture throughout the volume with lower energy consumption. The optimal values of the angle of the mixer conical part for the preparation of a foam concrete mixture have been determined.

Abstract In this paper, optimization of the threshold value of the relational degree in Grey Theory method for fault diagnosis is considered. With an emphasis on minimizing both the error rate and miss rate of fault diagnosis, new ideas are proposed to determine the optimal range of the threshold value. A practical example is given to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

Image acutance or edge contrast in an image plays a crucial role in hyperspectral hand biometrics, especially in the local feature representation phase. However, the study of acutance in this application has not received a lot of attention. Therefore, in this paper we propose that there is an optimal range of image acutance in hyperspectral hand biometrics. To locate this optimal range, a thresholded pixel-wise acutance value (TPAV) is firstly proposed to assess image acutance. Then, through convolving with Gaussian filters, a hyperspectral hand image was preprocessed to obtain different TPAVs. Afterwards, based on local feature representation, the nearest neighbor method was used for matching. The experiments were conducted on hyperspectral dorsal hand vein (HDHV) and hyperspectral palm vein (HPV) databases containing 53 bands. The results that achieved the best performance were those where image acutance was adjusted to the optimal range. On average, the samples with adjusted acutance compared to the original improved by a recognition rate (RR) of 29.5% and 45.7% for the HDHV and HPV datasets, respectively. Furthermore, our method was validated on the PolyU multispectral palm print database producing similar results to that of the hyperspectral. From this we can conclude that image acutance plays an important role in hyperspectral hand biometrics.

The thrust generation performance of airfoils with modified pitching motion was investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling two-dimensional laminar flow at Reynolds number of 104. The effect of shift distance of the pitch axis outside the chord line(R), reduced frequency(k), pitching amplitude(θ), pitching profile, and airfoil shape (airfoil thickness and camber) on the thrust generated and efficiency were studied. The results reveal that the increase inRandkleads to an enhancement in thrust generation and a decrease in propulsive efficiency. Besides, there exists an optimal range ofθfor the maximum thrust and the increasingθinduces a rapid decrease in propulsive efficiency. Six adjustable parameters(K)were employed to realize various nonsinusoidal pitching profiles. An increase inKresults in more thrust generated at the cost of decreased propulsive efficiency. The investigation of the airfoil shape effect reveals that there exists an optimal range of airfoil thickness for the best propulsion performance and that the vortex structure is strongly influenced by the airfoil thickness, while varying the camber or camber location of airfoil sections offers no benefit in thrust generation over symmetric airfoil sections.

Due to early maturation and a small size, sterlet (Acipenserrut-henus) is a very advantageous fish for intensive sturgeon farming with regard to caviar production. According to our previous observations, the growth potential of Siberian sterlet (A.ruthenusmarsiglii) is higher than that of the European one. In our experiment, sterlet and an intraspecific hybrid (Siberian sterlet × sterlet) were tested under intensive tank conditions. During the 8 weeks of the experiment, survival, growth and size heterogeneity were investigated. According to the results, there were no significant differences in survival and growth but the size heterogeneity was higher in the hybrid. It is supposed that, in our trial, the applied water  temperature range (24.0–25.5 °C) was optimal for sterlet, but was probably above the optimal range for the hybrid.

In this paper, we determine an optimal range for angle tracking radars (ATRs) based on evaluating the standard deviation of all kinds of errors in a tracking system. In the past, this optimal range has often been computed by the simulation of the total error components; however, we are going to introduce a closed form for this computation which allows us to obtain the optimal range directly. Thus, for this purpose, we firstly solve an optimization problem to achieve the closed form of the optimal range (Ropt.) and then, we compute it by doing a simple simulation. The results show that both theoretical and simulation-based computations are similar to each other.

Abstract The green economy has gained worldwide attention, especially in the urban agglomerations where population and economic activities are highly concentrated. However, what kind of urban agglomeration spatial structure is more conducive to promoting the green economy? No clear conclusions have been made. Here, we study the impact of urban agglomeration spatial structure on the green economy, and also reveal how urban agglomeration spatial structure influences the three subsystems of green economy. We find that: (1) urban agglomeration spatial structural evolution is closely related to green economy, while in the research period, most urban agglomerations are not located in the optimal range of the spatial structure that drives the green economy. (2) Towards polycentric spatial structure is contributive to green economic growth, however, the excessively polycentric could not benefit green economy. (3) The evolution of urban agglomeration spatial structure exerts heterogenous impacts on the three subsystems when green economy is decomposed into economic subsystem, resources subsystem, and environmental subsystem. Towards polycentric is more conducive to the improvement of economic subsystem and resource subsystem, while, the tendency to monocentric drives the environmental subsystem development. (4) Lastly, our conclusions enlighten the urban agglomeration development planning and spatial mode for approaching a better performance in green economy.
