In recent years, the appraisal theory has been employed by many scholars in the field of linguistics. This paper mainly employs attitudinal system to analyze the president Xi’s remarks at the Press Conference of BRICS Xiamen Summit by the way of qualitative and quantitative researches. President Xi’s remarks are significant and meaningful for the continually cooperation of BRICS. It is found that attitudinal resources are widely distributed in the remark, and they are unevenly applied. Positive attitudinal resources far exceed the negative ones, while direct attitudinal resources overweight the implied ones. What is more, the affect’s distribution is the least and the appreciation is far beyond affect and judgment. The paper analyzes the distribution of attitudinal resources in this remark in order to show China’s friendly relationship with other countries and China’s determination to strengthen international cooperation and common development.

Obviously, I'm not with the Secretary. I just saw the press reports on this. I don't know everything that he said, but I think he was referring to Helms-Burton in general. The fact is that the way that foreign companies will be affected is that after the date of the law, those that invest in Cuba will be affected. It will not pertain to those who perhaps were there in decades past, and that's what he was referring to. But since I haven't seen the full text of what he said—and I think he's also just now giving a press conference—I'd rather wait until I see the full text and then get back to you.

The qualitative descriptive method is applied. It is found that contract-disclaim-counter dominates the report by accounts of 55 realizations. It implies that the facts, Grandi reports may against audiences’ expectation, yet in another clause, he describes the situation which can reform audiences’ different viewpoints toward the crisis. The means and locations of reading are becoming increasingly significant. This is not only reflected in the academic world but also in the press. This chapter addresses the question of whether the locations and means of reading have changed in the past ten years since the advent of the e-reader. Have the places and manner of reading become more flexible? Has reading “on the go” replaced traditional locations of literary reading? Is more literature being read on mobile devices or is reading on paper still preferred over digital means—or are current readers hybrid readers? These are the questions that underpin this chapter. A connected series of experiments was conducted that seeks to explore the question of locations and means of contemporary acts of reading. It is hoped that the results that emerge may point the way to more qualitative and quantitative studies on this increasingly significant topic.

Elin Pelin’s first collected works show a side of the writer we rarely acknowledge, as it ismostly referred to as a “characteristic” of some of his books. In the five volumes of his first collected works he presents himself as an author of cycles. The present paper draws several conclusions from reading those five volumes, from various “mistakes” (made by the publishing house or/and by the press), as well as from the way we perceive his style, his writing, and his capabilities.

"This article tries to understand what type of film is approved by the Nicolae Ceauşescu regime and how it is promoted, through various propaganda channels. In this sense, we choose to discuss the film made by the artistic couple Manole Marcus - Titus Popovici, The Power and The Truth (1972), and we resort to a content analysis to understand the way it was made. We are also interested in the echoes of the film in the press of the time and how with the help of newspaper articles the authorities inoculate the idea that this film is the most important cinematographic achievement of the moment, a benchmark for political productions to be made from that point on. Keywords: Cinematography, Political Film, Nicolae Ceauşescu, Manole Marcus, Titus Popovici, Propaganda "

Matt Taibbi's “Hate, Inc.: Why Today's Media Makes Us Despise Each Other” (OR Books 2021) might make you angry, but it will make you think. Taibbi's takedown of commercial media, now updated in a post-election edition, offers a striking critique of the news media's slow but steady slide toward polarization “…skewed by a toxic mix of political and financial considerations” (20). Taibbi convincingly argues, using both historical and modern examples along with personal experience, that the press sells people on a simplified worldview where the two political parties are in a constant and perpetual conflict about everything. While Taibbi does offer some advice for independent-minded journalists seeking to navigate the current media landscape, audiences are left with little in the way of solutions, other than to stop reading (and watching) the news.
