As the importance of non-technical skills in the software engineering industry increases, the skill sets of graduates match less and less with industry expectations. A growing body of research exists that attempts to identify this skill gap. However, only few so far explicitly compare opinions of the industry with what is currently being taught in academia. By aggregating data from three previous works, we identify the three biggest non-technical skill gaps between industry and academia for the field of software engineering: devoting oneself to continuous learning , being creative by approaching a problem from different angles , and thinking in a solution-oriented way by favoring outcome over ego . Eight follow-up interviews were conducted to further explore how the industry perceives these skill gaps, yielding 26 sub-themes grouped into six bigger themes: stimulating continuous learning , stimulating creativity , creative techniques , addressing the gap in education , skill requirements in industry , and the industry selection process . With this work, we hope to inspire educators to give the necessary attention to the uncovered skills, further mitigating the gap between the industry and the academic world.

In the academic world, the authors and the publication of academic writing are inseparable. By publishing academic writing, academicians can improve their performance and increase their visibility in academia. However, academic writing is not an easy thing, as it is directly tied to the ethics of academic authorship. However, there have been several forms of unethical identified in academic authorship. Among them is the unethical placement of the author's name. This dishonesty certainly has a negative impact on the world of scholarship because those who are in this world of scholarship are said to have the nature of high integrity. Among the main causes of this problem is the need to achieve annual target. Is academic authorship tied to the ethics of academic authorship? What are the forms of dishonesty in academic authorship? There are two main objectives in solving the question. First, explain the ethics of academic authorship. Second, explain the forms of dishonesty specifically related to naming groups of authors in academic writing. The documentation method is carried out to obtain data related to ethics and forms of dishonesty in academic writing to achieve these objectives. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis to explain the inaccuracies in author nomination in academic writing. This study found that academic authorship is bound by its ethics as authoritative and recognized writing. One of the most common frauds is to put the name of an author or a group of authors who contributed to academic authorship. However, there are two main forms of academic dishonesty: putting the name of the individual as the author despite not contributing to the authorship and not putting the name of the contributing author in the authorship. This practice violates the ethics of academic authorship.   Received: 26 July 2021 / Accepted: 6 November 2021 / Published: 3 January 2022

Plagiarism has become a stressful problem in the academic world. In higher education, students must write a scientific paper that is free from plagiarism. Many referencing styles are offered to enable the writers to produce the proper scientific works. This study aimed to produce a module on academic writing for English department students. The module focused on writing citations based on APA style references, including in-text citation, paraphrasing, and summarizing. It was a research and development study that involved fifth-semester students. The samples were selected purposively. The data were collected by using interviews, questionnaires, and tests to see the product's validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The data gathered were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the study results, it was found that the validity of the product showed a very high category (0.92). Practicality consists of three aspects, ease, efficiency, and usefulness, categorized very high at small groups (0.85) and field tests (0.87). The module's effectiveness was seen from the gain score, which is 0.4. This score indicated the medium progress made by the students after having the treatment.

Europe made the earliest contribution to modern civilisation and modernisation of Europe has long drawn attention from the academic world. This article conducts an investigation into the origin and historical process of modern Europe from a macroscopic perspective, in order to develop better understanding of the connection between European history and modern civilisation. It first illustrates the historical background against which modern Europe originated. Then it interprets the historical process of Europe’s modernisation with respect to economy, culture, politics, and technology. The outcomes and significance of Europe’s modernisation are discussed at the end. This study also reveals obvious continuity of European history and its impact on the modern world.

Some words emerge at a given moment to catalyse ideas and give new meaning to old terminology. Innovation and design are two such words. Innovation has traditionally been linked with the Applied Sciences, especially technology, whereas advances in the PureSciences tend to be termed discoveries, inventions, or creations. However, for decades now, innovation has been a leitmotiv in all fields of scientific knowledge in both the Pure and the Applied Sciences. Design has also emerged from the niche it once occupied for decades (andeven centuries) at least insofar as its impact on the History of Science and of Philosophy is concerned. In fact, design’s introduction into the academic world has gone hand-in-hand with Art and its impact on our daily lives. This paper analyses innovation processes in boththe Pure and the Applied Sciences to discover how far new design theories over the last few decades have influenced innovation in fields such as Epistemology and Technology. We focus on Design Epistemology and methodological innovation, specifically in connectionwith design simulations and methodological models. We also look at the underlying design technologies and the key role they play in innovation processes.

Software systems have been under continued attacks by malicious entities, and in some cases, the consequences have been catastrophic. To tackle this pervasive problem, the academic world has significantly increased the offering of computer security-related courses during the past decade. In fact, offering these courses has become a standard part of the curriculum for many computing disciplines. While many proposals suggest adding this appealing topic into the nonsecurity CS courses, many faculties do not entirely support the idea for a convincing reason. They rightfully claim that each one of these courses is already packed with concepts and materials developed toward that course, leaving not much room for other topics. In this study, we show how exposing students to security concepts can be incorporated into upper-division CS courses without increasing the normally required efforts needed by students as well as the instructor. We show how to develop a project of this nature that can be appended to an already existing course project. We have successfully employed our proposed approach in two of our core CS courses and present them in this paper as case studies.

Brand identity is a unique characteristic of a brand. Brand identity can be seen in the form of symbols, visuals, and physical representations that serve to make it easier for consumers to recognize a brand. Over the time, brand identity has become much more important and noticed. Therefore there is a demand for a brand to make changes. These changes were made to defend against extreme market developments. This process is known as rebranding, which will produce a reconstructed brand identity to compete in a new market. Corporate rebranding has become a common practice to adapt to changes in the micro and macro environment. With the increasing number of successful organizations after implementing corporate rebranding, it creates interest in the academic world, especially in universities. Therefore, the author emphasizes this application study to raise the topic of "Designing a Creative Rebranding Strategy for the Information Systems Bachelor Program". In this rebranding design stage, the research uses the ADDIE development method (Analyzing, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The output of this design will be used by Batam International University Information Systems Bachelor Program on youtube and instagram. With the implementation of this design, it will provide an identity that can reflect the new characteristics of the Batam International University Information Systems Bachelor Program.

However, plagiarism is still often done by students in writing scientific papers. To overcome this problem, socialization of plagiarism insights into scientific writings was carried out as a form of community service activity aimed at PGSD students. This activity aims to give students a good understanding of the definition of plagiarism, the scope of plagiarism, the causes of plagiarism, the types of plagiarism and its sanctions, how to avoid plagiarism, simulation of plagiarism checks and paraphrasing techniques. Methods of the socialization of activities is carried out online through zoom meeting.
