The practical results of innovative methods/approaches to teaching like Cooperative Learning (CL), which have been formulated based on constructivists' theories, are falling short of expectation in the present world circumstances. This is because they cannot reflect the realities of the real world and as a consequence have contributed to uncivilised and even maimed societies. As their ancestors, thereby, these so-called innovative interactive methods and approaches are doomed to failure. This article, as such, gives a brief but to the point introduction to the author's seminal  holistic approach to teaching namely Competitive Team-Based Learning (CTBL), which has been put forward as a significant alternative to the present methods and approaches. Most importantly, the author sheds light on his approach's theoretical foundations, which consider language as a liberating agent, and distinguishes it from other innovative methods/approaches like Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The results of some researches on the effectiveness of Dr Hosseini's didactic catalyst/weapon (i.e., CTBL) have also found a place in this article for the benefit of researchers/educators, who have also been provided with some significant suggestions. Teachers' accountabilities in classes run through CTBL have also been explicated.

The subject of the research in this article is the innovative methods of teaching a foreign language. The author considers innovative activity as a process of mutual influence, the strength of which depends on both the ability to use various innovative methods and techniques in teaching, and the spiritual wealth of the personality of the teacher. This article deals with the problem of finding new methods and ways to increase motivation for teaching foreign languages. One of these forms is new pedagogical technologies, the introduction of which facilitates effective language learning. The article defines the concepts of "Pedagogical technology" and "Smart education", which can provide a high level of education that meets the challenges and opportunities of today's world. The author emphasizes that it is not enough for a new generation of teachers to be competent in their field of knowledge, it is necessary for the educational process to use methodological innovations that are currently associated with the use of interactive teaching methods. The author considers several interactive methods, the implementation of which will contribute to the achievement of the goal - improving the efficiency of the educational process, achieving high efficiency for all students.

The composition of English language learning tools for middle schools has often not utilized the instrctional technology approach and only used approaches related to the educational discipline of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). English language learning materials in several middle schools in East Java also do not provide audio media-based activities for practice of listening skills. This article is the research results of the Borg & Gall research and development model which aimed to develop, validate, and test textual learning materials aided by audio recordings to develop the English-language competency of middle school students. The results of the development showed that audio media was proven to be e ectively capable as sca olds that play a role as learning aids. Audio media provides sound input that guides students to imitate the audio with accurate pronunciation. In addition, audio media input can also be comprehensible for students in accordance with the Input Hypothesis Theory of Krashen that states that those learning languages at “level i” should obtain comprehensible input at “level i + 1” or slightly higher than the current level, and this theory of Krashen is identical to the zone of proximal development (ZPD) theory of Vygotsky. This development also resulted in a learning design which applied the audio lingual communicative (ALC) strategy which is eclectic in its combination of two language learning strategies, which are the audio lingual method with communicative language teaching (CLT). The application of this method was appropriate with the Indonesian classroom context where the number of students in a classroom is on average 40 pupils or more.

The aim of this article is to try to understand why the results of studies on errors in second language learning undertaken for several decades are diverse or even divergent. Some of these studies state that the mother tongue (L1) plays an important role in the learning process not only at the beginning, but also at higher levels of competency while others deny the influence of the mother tongue. The results of 60 studies on errors over a period of 40 years were contrasted to find out if a link existed between the theoretical foundations, and the interpretation of data, and conclusions of those studies. The results of the meta-analysis of studies whose theoretical foundations were related to operational cognitive strategies showed a continuum from partial to an important role of L1, and those related to order of acquisition, universal sequences showed a non-influence of L1. Another possible cause for this discrepancy was found in the method used to classify the errors. Finally, a possible cause could have been the methodological difficulties concerning the reliability and validity of the data. Only one third of the studies applied the control of bias and the triangulation of data.

The objective of the article is to further study the concept “teacher’s professional competence” as well the ways of its formation. The research was conducted among the students as prospective teachers, and teaching staff of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. The analysis of the research helped prove the essential role of some factors in the professional development of future teachers. In particular, such factors as knowledge of the teaching subject, knowledge of effective teaching methods and skills to implement them, the importance of teaching practice, the personality factor, teacher’s self-education were singled out. Therefore, the paper aims to outline a few ideas on how to ensure the implementation of the above-mentioned considerations. We also dwell upon the impact of the human behavior on the process of foreign language learning and teaching. That is why knowledge about affective factors is consequential in the academic process and using some interactive methods can also help lower the affective filter. Types of motivation and ways to enhance it are described in the paper too.

This study aims to explore the pedagogical beliefs of Saudi instructors of English as a foreign language (EFL), and the extent to which they apply the values of the communicative language teaching (CLT) approach in their classroom practice. The study was conducted with 42 Saudi EFL teachers and employed a mixed methods approach. A descriptive analysis of classroom observation data was conducted. The results showed that teachers hold positive views of CLT, but that there are some discrepancies between their beliefs and their implementations of the approach. For example, most of the instructors continued to apply traditional teaching methods (i.e., grammar translation and the audio-lingual approach). The study concludes that it is essential in the Saudi EFL context for teachers to cultivate relations between their beliefs and practices to assure better language learning outcomes. The key contribution of this study lies in disclosing the reasons for the discrepancies between Saudi EFL teachers’ beliefs and practices to help them develop congruence, and in highlighting the pedagogical implementations.
