The study objective is to evaluate reproductive function in men who underwent vaccination with Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) based on quantitative and qualitative sperm characteristics.Materials and methods. Mean ejaculate characteristics were analyzed in 3 independent groups formed from patients examined at the Laboratory of Genetics of Impaired Reproduction of the Research Center for Medical Genetics in 2021: the comparison group consisted of 759 unvaccinated men; the group of 73 men who were vaccinated with Sputnik V and for whom the time between the full vaccination (2 components of the vaccine) and semen analysis was less than 75 days; and the group of 58 men who underwent vaccination more than 75 days prior to semen analysis. The results of semen analysis of 53 patients before and after full vaccination procedure were compared. In 32 patients, less than 75 days passed since vaccination; in 21 patients, more than 75 days; for 5 patients data prior to 75 days since vaccination and after are available. The study group included patients without history of COVID-19. Standard semen analysis was performed in accordance with the World Health Organization Guidelines. For statistical analysis of the differences between the groups Student's t-test was used with significance level of p <0.05.Results. Comparison of semen analysis of the same patients before and after vaccination procedure showed no statistically significant differences. Small decrease in progressive motility was observed (from 19.0 ± 0.4 to 13.8 ± 1.1 %), as well as decline in sperm morphology (from 4.53 ± 0.12 to 3.55 ± 0.31 %) in the group who underwent vaccination less than 75 days prior to the analysis. In the group who underwent vaccination more than 75 days before semen analysis, sperm characteristics do not differ from the unvaccinated group.Conclusion. There were no statistically significant differences in the ejaculate indices of the same patients before and after vaccination with Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac). In the group of patients examined in a short time after vaccination, there is a decrease in the quality of sperm compared to the comparison group (unvaccinated). In the group of patients examined in a more distant period, there are no significant differences in the quality of sperm from the group of unvaccinated, which indicates the absence of long-term consequences of vaccination for the quality of ejaculate.

Male infertility problems can occur when sperms are limited in number or function. In this paper, we describe the clinical evaluation of male infertility. A detailed history, physical examination, and basic semen analysis are required. In addition, ultrasound, karyotyping, and hormonal studies are needed to determine specific causes of infertility. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO, 2009) has developed a manual to provide guidance in performing a comprehensive semen analysis. Among the possible reasons for male infertility, nonobstructive azoospermia is the least treatable, because few or no mature sperm may be produced. In many cases, men with nonobstructive azoospermia typically have small-volume testes and elevated FSH. Although treatment may not completely restore the quality of semen from men with subnormal fertility, in some cases a successful pregnancy can still be achieved through assisted reproductive technology.

Quality of life of patients with breast and gynecological cancer faced with anticancer chemotherapy  Backgroud: the evaluation of quality of life in cancer patients is of interest to researchers due to its impact on health policies. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life of patients with breast and gynecological cancer, undergoing chemotherapy.  Methods and Findings: this was a quantitative, descriptive and longitudinal study, conducted in the Clinical Hospital of the Triangulo Mineiro Federal University. To assess the quality of life, the Portuguese brief version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) instrument was applied. The paired Student’s t-test was used for the analysis of the means of/ the scores of the domains. The study included 14 women. The lowest means were observed in the physical domain, 51.78±15.89 and 50.25±15.37, respectively before and after treatment. There was also a compromise of the psychological and environment domains, however, the data analyzed did not show statistical significance. The main limitation of this study is the sample size.  Conclusion: quality of life presents itself as an important factor for the measurement of results in clinical studies. ABSTRACT Objective The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined leukocytospermia as > 106 WBC/ml of semen. However, the clinical significance of leukocytospermia is currently a subject of controversy. Evidence from several recent studies indicates that leukocytospermia could significantly contribute to oxidative stress and male infertility. Several clinical trials have investigated the efficacy of antibiotic therapy to treat patients with pyospermia in an attempt to improve fertility. Currently, doxycycline is the most common antibiotic used to treat pyospermia though larger trials are needed to demonstrate its efficacy in treating pyospermia. Materials and methods Hundred male partners with semen analysis showing the presence of significant leukocytospermia (WBC > 1 × 106/ml), sterile semen culture and satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria were enrolled in the study and given doxycycline 100 mg bd for 14 days. Semen analysis for pus cells and oxidative stress (ROS) measurement was done before and after the treatment. Results Mean pus cell count before and after treatment with doxycycline was 2.28 ± 1.26 × 106/ml and 1.21 ± 0.58 ×106/mL respectively, the effect being statistically significant (p < 0.05). Resolution of leukocytospermia was seen in 61.4% (54/88) cases after doxycycline treatment. Mean oxidative stress (RLU/ sec/million sperms) before and after doxycycline therapy was 79.72 ± 133.9 and 25.44 ± 47.8, the difference being significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion Study results show that treatment with broad spectrum antibiotic like doxycycline leads to significant decrease in the number of pus cells present in semen thereby significantly decreasing the oxidative stress. In 2009, the World Health Organization formally recognized infertility as a disease of the reproductive system. This designation serves to ease access to infertility evaluation and treatment. Infertility is a disease of both men and women, and proper evaluation of both partners is necessary. Common causes of infertility are ovulatory dysfunction, tubal and pelvic pathology, unexplained infertility, and male factor. A complete history and physical examination may uncover the underlying etiology, although verification of tubal patency and normal semen analysis is warranted. This period also offers an opportunity to perform preconception testing and optimize women’s health before conception. Treatment for infertility is aimed to restore normal reproductive function and anatomy. In addition, patient education and counseling is indeed a very important aspect of infertility care. Objective: Patients undergoing hemodialysis in the long term often experience complications that affect the quality of life (QOL) of the patients. Comprehensive health services are very important for improving the QOL of the patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The purpose of this study was to prove that the provision of therapy with pharmaceutical care can improve the QOL of hemodialysis patients. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study pre and post test design. Samples were recruited applying the purposive sampling method. As many as 50 patients met the inclusion criteria and were asked to fill out the World Health Organization Quality Of Life (WHOQOL) questionnaire to measure their QOLs before and after the provisions of pharmaceutical care. Data obtained before and after pharmaceutical care were tested using paired t test, person correlation test, and Wilcoxon test in the program of SPSS 19. Results: The results showed women more often experience complications when hemodialysis (62%), sex with quality of life (p = 0.907), education with quality of life (p = 0.277), work with quality of life (p = 0.582) length of undergoing hemodialysis with quality life (p = 0.733) no significant effect. Age (p = 0.044) significantly influences quality of life. And the average quality of life before administration of pharmacy and care was 48.12±5.98, while the quality of life after administration of therapy with pharmaceutical care was 50.16±6.22. Based on the Wilcoxon test, this value was significantly different (p = 0.009). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is the provision of therapy accompanied by pharmaceutical care significantly improves the quality of life of hemodialysis patients.

At present, evaluation of male reproductive function consists primarily of routine semen analysis, a collection of conventional microscopic assessments ideally performed following the guidelines set by the World Health Organization. While providing some insight into testicular function, these long-performed tests are limited in the information that they impart; more specifically, they are unable to predict true fertility potential. As a consequence, there is a need for the appraisal and consideration of newer semen parameters that may be more indicative of reproductive success. Although various novel assays have been introduced that broaden the scope of information available to both researcher and clinician, the utility of these tests remains limited due to the lack of standardisation of protocols and the absence of clinically established, dependable reference ranges. As such, it is not surprising that most of these parameters and their associated methods remain recommended for ‘research purposes only’. With the burgeoning ‘omics’ revolution, nanotechnology and the development of new analytical instruments, there is now an opportunity for the identification and measurement of previously unknown features that may prove to be more indicative of each sperm's true functional status and capability. Once optimised, simplified, clinically validated and made more readily accessible, these new approaches hold the promise of forming the fulcrum upon which andrological investigations can enter a new era.
