Data is increasing at an enormous rate every day. Traditionally data has resided in silosacross any organization,so it’s difficult to have a complete picture for data driven business decision making. Data lake addresses the problem of rate of increase of data by providing “schema on read”, better integration and cheaper storage. It also solves the data silos problemby providing a central platform for a variety of data housing needs. However, implementing a data lake becomes challenging as the implementation needs to address the additional needs like metadata management, data discovery, data governance, data lifecycle management, security and centralized access controls mechanisms. This paper intends to provide a comprehensive architecture of data lake to address these challenges. We have also conducted and documented our experiments with publicly available datasets about COVID19 to validate the design and applicability of the proposed architecture for business analytics purposes.

The research project was conducted to investigate the understanding of E-commerce Application among the SMEs in the state of Kelantan. Focusing on the population of registered members of Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia, Kelantan, a total of302 respondents were selected to participate in our study. Moving in line with the general assumption of world business community it is agreed that e-commerce application is highly relevant for the survival and meeting the challenges of borderless economy. At the same time, the process of acquiring knowledge and understanding the environment, coping with changes, and speeding up the business decision, able to further enhance the competitive advantage of the SMEs. Using the established model, our investigation focused on 5 identifiable variables to demonstrate its usefulness towards motivating SMEs to adopt e-commerce. Our analysis indicated that all the selected variables were significant towards enhancing the application of e-commerce and thus maintaining competitive advantage in the industry.

Abstract Background Queensland, Australia has been successful in containing the COVID-19 pandemic. Underpinning that response has been a highly effective virus containment strategy which relies on identification, isolation, and contact tracing of cases. The dramatic emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic rendered traditional paper-based systems for managing contact tracing no longer fit for purpose. A rapid digital transformation of the public health contact tracing system occurred to support this effort. Objectives The objectives of the digital transformation were to shift legacy systems (paper or standalone electronic systems) to a digitally enabled public health system, where data are centered around the consumer rather than isolated databases. The objective of this paper is to outline this case study and detail the lessons learnt to inform and give confidence to others contemplating digitization of public health systems in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This case study is set in Queensland, Australia. Universal health care is available. A multidisciplinary team was established consisting of clinical informaticians, developers, data strategists, and health information managers. An agile “pair-programming” approach was undertaken to application development and extensive change efforts were made to maximize adoption of the new digital workflows. Data governance and flows were changed to support rapid management of the pandemic. Results The digital coronavirus application (DCOVA) is a web-based application that securely captures information about people required to quarantine and creates a multiagency secure database to support a successful containment strategy. Conclusion Most of the literature surrounding digital transformation allows time for significant consultation, which was simply not possible under crisis conditions. Our observation is that staff was willing to adopt new digital systems because the reason for change (the COVID-19 pandemic) was clearly pressing. This case study highlights just how critical a unified purpose, is to successful, rapid digital transformation.

The purpose of the article is to develop the methodological foundations of business analytics as a necessary component in the competitiveness management system of a modern enterprise. The article is devoted to solving the problem of relations business analytics (in particular business decision support systems) and systemic characteristics of enterprise competitiveness management. Substantiation of factors influencing the formation of the competitiveness of an enterprise becomes significant at this stage of development of the national economy. The publication summarizes the tasks, principles and goals of business analytics. The relations between business analytics and enterprise competitiveness is defined and structured. Business analytics aims to simplify the work of the company as much as possible, increasing the profitability of sales and minimizing losses, which will certainly have a positive effect on the competitiveness of an enterprise. It is noted that the qualitative improvement of the range and intellectual potential of an enterprise has a positive effect on the competitiveness of manufactured goods (services), personnel of an enterprise. Factors influencing the competitiveness of an enterprise are established and substantiated. The types of relations between business strategy and business analytics are analyzed. The significance and necessity of conducting business analysis for making managerial decisions are revealed. The tools of a business analyst in a rapidly changing environment are proposed. Ukrainian enterprises are recommended to use not static, but strategically-oriented adaptive systems of competitiveness management, based on the widespread use of business process modeling and business intelligence tools. Further research should be focused on the implementation of modern methods of business analytics in enterprises, taking into account the experience of the most developed countries, conducting a comparative analysis of business analysis tools to reveal their full potential, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages.

This article describes a relation between sociotechnical and technological factors involved in launching and implementing Business Intelligence systems. Advanced BI systems include business analytics, data mining, data visualization, data tools and infrastructure, and advanced IT solutions to support business decisions based on big data. Various industries and businesses handle large amounts of data to adapt to changing markets and demand fluctuations, push new technologies, and repair ineffective strategies, etc. With an upsurge in data sizes, more and more new research papers are published today to describe BI implemen-tation, use and results. However, today most studies and scientific publications focus on Business Intelligence technological challenges, while sociotechnical aspects – that is processes involved in business decision mak-ing based on big data – are studied in much rarer cases.

BI is playing a major role in achieving competitive advantage in almost every sector of the market, and the higher education sector is no exception. Universities, in general, maintain huge databases comprising data of students, human resources, researches, facilities, and others. Data in these databases may contain decisive information for decision making. In this chapter we will describe a data mining approach as one of the business intelligence methodologies for possible use in higher education. The importance of the model arises from the reality that it starts from a system approach to university management, looking at the university as input, processing, output, and feedback, and then applies different business intelligence tools and methods to every part of the system in order to enhance the business decision making process. The chapter also shows an application of the suggested model on a real case study at the Arab International University.

There are several challenges faced by decision makers while deploying Business Analytics in their organization. There may not be one resolution approach that is suitable for creating a Business Analytics culture in all organizations. However, it is easy to perceive that most India-based organizations may have similar issues of data organization that may be impeding their progression in the field of Analytics. Based on their research, the authors have proposed a framework for adoption of Analytics in Indian firms in their book “Weaving Analytics for Effective Decision Making” by SAGE. They propose to use that model for explaining certain domain specific adoption of Business Analytics in organizations in India. They have used a case study of a Global Bank which is in the process of establishing its consumer lending USA operations, an offshore captive operation, in India to describe the process of building an Analytics team in an organization in India. Data processed using R has been added as screenshots for supporting the findings.
