This review summarizes the data on the diagnostic value of determining the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) in urological and nephrological diseases. A physiological role of this protein in the pathogenesis of malignant neoplasms of the kidney, bladder, and prostate was analyzed. The dynamics of FABP in serum and urine with decreased renal function was studied: this protein is considered as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for chronic kidney disease and acute renal injury. The value of FABP for early screening of patients with obstructive nephropathy was revealed, and its role in predicting the restoration of kidney function was studied: the dynamics of FABP content can characterize the process of graft recovery, determine the need for hemodialysis. In patients with oligozooastenospermia, a reduced content of FABP in the ejaculate was registered, which was probably an adverse sign indicating a violation of male fertility.

Background:Interest in highly specialized tissue cytokines contributed to the discovery of new biologically active molecules. Nesfatin-1 (NF) - discovered in 2006 as an anorexigenic factor. NF-1 is believed to be involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis by regulating appetite and water intake. The role of NF-1 in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases is poorly understood. Recently, studies have found a relationship between an increased level of NF-1 and inflammatory markers in various pathologies.Objectives:Study of the level of nesfatin-1 in the blood serum of healthy people, determination of the correlation between the level of NF-1 with the severity of clinical symptoms and classic markers of inflammation in patients with RA.Methods:120 persons were examined: 90 patients with RA and 30 healthy people. All patients underwent a complete clinical and laboratory examination. Plasma NF-1 levels were determined using commercial test systems (RaiBiotech, cat # EIA-NESF) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Patients with various forms of RA were comparable in age to the group of healthy individuals. Statistical processing of clinical examination data was carried out using the “STATISTICA 10.0 for Windows” software package. Quantitative data were processed statistically using the parametric Student’s t-test, qualitative data using the non-parametric chi-square test. The significance of differences between groups was determined using analysis of variance. The results were considered statistically significant at p <0.05.Results:The average level of NF-1 in blood serum in healthy individuals was 31.79 ± 3.21 ng / ml (M ± σ). The level of normal NF-1 values in healthy individuals, defined as M ± 2σ, ranged from 25.3 to 37.83 ng / ml. There was no significant difference in the levels of circulating NF-1 and BMI in healthy individuals and patients with RA (p> 0.05). The inverse relationship of a lower level of NF-1 with an increase in BMI was not significant.Group 1 (66 patients with RA) with increased serum NF-1 levels (> 37.83 ng / ml), and group 2 (44 patients) with normal values (<37.83 ng / ml). A high level of NF-1 was characteristic for patients with high activity according to DAS28, RF seropositive, ACCP-positive, with extra-articular manifestations, who had been ill for 10 years or more. A reliable relationship between the level of NF-1 in the blood serum and laboratory parameters of RA activity - ESR, CRP, was shown, and secondary synovitis was more common. Our data show a direct correlation between the NF-1 level of the pro-inflammatory markers of RA.Conclusion:The positive correlation between the level of NF-1 and classical markers of inflammation, such as CRP and ESR, confirms the involvement of NF-1 in the pathophysiology of inflammation in RA. This is also evidenced by the correlation of a high level of NF-1 in the blood serum with a more severe clinical picture of RA. It is known that NF-1 can promote the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-8 (IL-8), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1a (MIP-1a) in the chondrocytes of RA patients.It is necessary to further study the role of NF-1 in the pathogenesis of systemic inflammatory reactions and the possibility of targeting pro-inflammatory cytokines, the possibility of regulating the level of NF-1 by drugs.References:[1]Kvlividze T.Z., Zavodovsky B.V., Akhverdyan Yu.R. Abstract Background Early diagnosis of sepsis is very important. It is necessary to find effective and adequate biomarkers in order to diagnose sepsis. In this study, we compared the value of sialic acid and procalcitonin for diagnosing sepsis. Methods Newly admitted intensive care unit patients were enrolled from January 2019 to June 2019. We retrospectively collected patient data, including presence of sepsis or not, procalcitonin level and sialic acid level. Receiver operating characteristic curves for the ability of sialic acid, procalcitonin and combination of sialic acid and procalcitonin to diagnose sepsis were carried out. Results A total of 644 patients were admitted to our department from January 2019 to June 2019. The incomplete data were found in 147 patients. Finally, 497 patients data were analyzed. The sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve for the diagnosis of sepsis with sialic acid, procalcitonin and combination of sialic acid and procalcitonin were 64.2, 78.3%, 0.763; 67.9, 84.0%, 0.816 and 75.2, 84.6%, 0.854. Moreover, sialic acid had good values for diagnosing septic patients with viral infection, with 87.5% sensitivity, 82.2% specificity, and 0.882 the area under the curve. Conclusions Compared to procalcitonin, sialic acid had a lower diagnostic efficacy for diagnosing sepsis in critically ill patients. However, the combination of sialic acid and procalcitonin had a higher diagnostic efficacy for sepsis. Moreover, sialic acid had good value for diagnosing virus-induced sepsis.

Concentration of zinc in blood serum and effusion was determined in 104 patients with the pleural effusion of different etiology. The importance of zinc concentration in serum and effusion was analyzed, as well as their relation regarding the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion. It was established that the isolated zinc concentrations in serum and pleural effusion could not be used separately either in differing transudates from exudates or in the diagnosis of the pleural diseases. The average value of zinc in the pleural effusion in relation to the serum value in patients with tuberculosis effusion was 1.37, higher than 1 in all patients and was significantly different from the average value of the ratio 0,74 in patients with nonspecific and malignant pleural effusions. The relation of zinc concentration in the effusion and serum higher than 1.0 reliably indicated the presence of tuberculous pleurisy.

Enteroviruses (EVs) from the D species are the causative agents of a diverse range of infectious diseases in spite of comprising only five known members. This small clade has a diverse host range and tissue tropism. It contains types infecting non-human primates and/or humans, and for the latter, they preferentially infect the eye, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and nervous system. Although several Enterovirus D members, in particular EV-D68, have been associated with neurological complications, including acute myelitis, there is currently no effective treatment or vaccine against any of them. This review highlights the peculiarities of this viral species, focusing on genome organization, functional elements, receptor usage, and pathogenesis.
