SummaryThe mode of F Xa inhibition was investigated on a thromboresistant surface with end-point attached partially depoly-merized heparin of an approximate molecular weight of 8000. Affinity chromatography revealed that one fourth of the heparin used in surface coating had high affinity for antithrombin III (AT). The heparin surface adsorbed AT from both human plasma and solutions of purified AT. By increasing the ionic strength in the AT solution the existence of high and low affinity sites could be shown. The uptake of AT was measured and the density of available high and low affinity sites was found to be in the range of 5 HTid 11 pic.omoles/cmf, respectively Thus the estimated density of biologically active high and low ailmity heparm respectively would be 40 and 90 ng/cm2 The heparin coating did not take up or exert F Xa inhibition by itself. With AT adsorbed on both high and low affinity heparin the surface had the capacity to inhibit several consecutive aliquots of F Xa exposed to the surface. When mainly high affinity sites were saturated with AT the inhibition capacity was considerably lower. Tt was demonstrated that the density of AT on both high and low affinity heparin determines the F Xa inhibition capacity whereas the amount of AT on high affinity sites limits the rate of the reaction. This implies that during the inhibition of F Xa there is a continuous surface-diffusion of AT from sites of a lower class to the high affinity sites where the F Xa/AT complex is formed and leaves the surface. The ability of the immobilized heparin to catalyze inhibition of F Xa is likely to be an important component for the thromboresistant properties of a heparin coating with non-compromized AT binding sequences.

The physician George Hoggart Toulmin (1754–1817) propounded his theory of the Earth in a number of works beginning with The antiquity and duration of the world (1780) and ending with his The eternity of the universe (1789). It bore many resemblances to James Hutton's "Theory of the Earth" (1788) in stressing the uniformity of Nature, the gradual destruction and recreation of the continents and the unfathomable age of the Earth. In Toulmin's view, the progress of the proper theory of the Earth and of political advancement were inseparable from each other. For he analysed the commonly accepted geological ideas of his day (which postulated that the Earth had been created at no great distance of time by God; that God had intervened in Earth history on occasions like the Deluge to punish man; and that all Nature had been fabricated by God to serve man) and argued they were symptomatic of a society trapped in ignorance and superstition, and held down by priestcraft and political tyranny. In this respect he shared the outlook of the more radical figures of the French Enlightenment such as Helvétius and the Baron d'Holbach. He believed that the advance of freedom and knowledge would bring about improved understanding of the history and nature of the Earth, as a consequence of which Man would better understand the terms of his own existence, and learn to live in peace, harmony and civilization. Yet Toulmin's hopes were tempered by his naturalistic view of the history of the Earth and of Man. For Time destroyed everything — continents and civilizations. The fundamental law of things was cyclicality not progress. This latent political conservatism and pessimism became explicit in Toulmin's volume of verse, Illustration of affection, published posthumously in 1819. In those poems he signalled his disapproval of the French Revolution and of Napoleonic imperialism. He now argued that all was for the best in the social order, and he abandoned his own earlier atheistic religious radicalism, now subscribing to a more Christian view of God. Toulmin's earlier geological views had run into considerable opposition from orthodox religious elements. They were largely ignored by the geological community in late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Britain, but were revived and reprinted by lower class radicals such as Richard Carlile. This chapter discusses Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's childhood in the ancient Macedonian capital of Salonica. The future founder of the Turkish Republic was born one winter, either in 1880 or in 1881. His upbringing was more liberal than that of most lower-class Muslims. No one in his family's circle of friends and relatives, for instance, practiced polygamy. Likewise, his father reportedly drank alcohol, which was abhorred by conservatives. The confusing dualism produced in Ottoman society by the reforms of the nineteenth century had its first imprint on Mustafa when his parents entered into a heated argument about his education. There is little doubt that Mustafa Kemal's deep-seated predilection for new institutions and practices owed much to his years as one of a handful of students in the empire who had their primary education at a private elementary school devoid of a strong religious focus.

The article explores the role of antropoetonyms in the reader’s “horizon of expectation” formation. As a kind of “text in the text”, antropoetonyms are concentrating a large amount of information on a minor part of the text, reflecting the main theme of the work. As a “text” this class of poetonyms performs a number of functions: transmission and storage of information, generation of new meanings, the function of “cultural memory”, which explains the readers’ “horizon of expectations”. In analyzing the context of the literary work we should consider the function of antropoetonyms in vertical context (the link between artistic and other texts, and the groundwork system of culture), as well as in the context of the horizontal one (times’ connection realized in the communication chain from the word to the text; the author’s intention). In this aspect, the role of antropoetonyms in the structure of the literary text is extremely significant because antropoetonyms convey an associative nature, generating a complex mechanism of allusions. It’s an open fact that they always transmit information about the preceding text and suggest a double decoding. On the one hand, the recipient decodes this information, on the other – accepts this as a sort of hidden, “secret” sense.

Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) perform distinguishable roles in maintaining homeostatic conditions of living organisms and protect their cell and body from freezing in extremely cold conditions. Owing to high diversity in protein sequences and structures, the discrimination of AFPs from non- AFPs through experimental approaches is expensive and lengthy. It is, therefore, vastly desirable to propose a computational intelligent and high throughput model that truly reflects AFPs quickly and accurately. In a sequel, a new predictor called “iAFP-gap-SMOTE” is proposed for the identification of AFPs. Protein sequences are expressed by adopting three numerical feature extraction schemes namely; Split Amino Acid Composition, G-gap di-peptide Composition and Reduce Amino Acid alphabet composition. Usually, classification hypothesis biased towards majority class in case of the imbalanced dataset. Oversampling technique Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique is employed in order to increase the instances of the lower class and control the biasness. 10-fold cross-validation test is applied to appraise the success rates of “iAFP-gap-SMOTE” model. After the empirical investigation, “iAFP-gap-SMOTE” model obtained 95.02% accuracy. The comparison suggested that the accuracy of” iAFP-gap-SMOTE” model is higher than that of the present techniques in the literature so far. It is greatly recommended that our proposed model “iAFP-gap-SMOTE” might be helpful for the research community and academia.
