ABSTRACTThis study examined the antecedents and consequence of career plateau. Antecedents of career plateau are job tenure, age, job involvement and supervisor’s support. The consequence of career plateau is organizational commitment. Organizational commitment has three dimensions, namely affective organizational commitment, continuance organizational commitment and normative organizational commitment. This study examined the employees of the company/institution in Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik and Mojokerto. The questionnaire was distributed to 110 respondents. Respondents who return the questionnaire were 107 respondents. The next step, the researchers tested the validity and reliability of the variables consisting of affective organizational commitment, continuance organizational commitment, normative organizational commitment, career plateau, job involvement and supervisor’s support. All the variables have good reliability and validity. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the antecedents and consequence of career plateau. The results of SEM using Amos shows that the effect of job involvement and supervisor’s support on career plateau accepted. In addition, the influence of career plateau on organizational commitment are also accepted. Unfortunately, the effects of job tenure and age on the career plateau rejected.

PurposeIn spite of the importance of officers' perception of organizational justice and its influence on organizational commitment, the policing literature lacks information about the relationship between the factors. Using job satisfaction as a mediator, this study aims to examine an indirect influence of organizational justice on police officers' commitment to their organization.Design/methodology/approachThis study employed a survey of 418 police officers in South Korea while on in‐service training. In exploring the complex relationship among organizational justice (i.e. distributive, procedural, and interactional), job satisfaction, and organizational commitment, the researchers utilized structural equation modeling to overcome the weaknesses of linear regression models.FindingsOfficers' perception of organizational justice was positively related with their level of organizational commitment. In addition, perception of procedural and interactional justice had an indirect impact on the officers' organizational commitment through distributive justice. Lastly, perception of organizational justice showed an indirect influence on organizational commitment through job satisfaction.Research limitations/implicationsDue to its cross‐sectional design, the findings do not confirm any causal relationship among the variables. In addition, the current study used a purposive sample of police officers in South Korea, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by examining organizational commitment in light of officers' perception of organizational justice and job satisfaction using structural equation modeling to explore the complex relationship among the organizational factors.

Work-life balance is now being encouraged in organizations across different cultures. Moreover, amidst the current ‘pandemic’ status of widespread disease COVID-19, its essential for businesses to operate remotely as FWAs response to these challenges. The purpose is to focus on explaining how FWAs induce affective commitment as well as help in achieving work-life enrichment. For this, we proposed a theoretical framework hypothesizing that FWAs reduce work-life conflicts as well as make employees more engaged. The effect of FWAs on these two is also complemented by better time planning. Reduction of conflicts and enhanced engagement would, in turn, increase affective organizational commitment and work-life enrichment. Empirical significance was calculated by performing a survey using a questionnaire to collect data from 300 service sector employees in Pakistan. We determined our results by using structural equation modeling. The results suggested that FWAs are significantly and positively related to affective organizational commitment, engagement, and work-life enrichment, whereas negatively and significantly affect work-life conflict. Moreover, engagement also positively affects enrichment and affective commitment. Surprisingly, work-life conflict seems to positively affect work-life enrichment. Time planning seems to negatively complement the effect of FWAs on work-life conflict whereas, positively affect engagement. This study concludes that positive outcomes are generated by simply providing FWAs and more friendly policies whereby increasing effectiveness and ensuring business success continuity.
