In this paper, following the research logic of Emotion/Feature-Behavior-Result, the focus is put on how the entrepreneurial passion of interactive-oriented teams in the tobacco products entrepreneurial can improve corporate performance by affecting entrepreneurial learning. The multiple regression method is used to test 238 valid questionnaires of new ventures, and the Bootstrap model is used to verify the mediating effect of entrepreneurial learning according to the multiple mediating effect analysis method proposed by scholars. The results show that: (1) The entrepreneurial passion of the team will affect the tobacco products entrepreneurial process of the new venture team, and the team with high passion atmosphere is more likely to improve the performance of the new enterprise. As a strong positive emotion experienced by the entrepreneurial team in their entrepreneurial activities, can not only influence the entrepreneurial team to identify with their entrepreneurial identity sharing, but also promote the growth of enterprises. (2) There is a significant mediating effect of exploratory learning and exploitative learning in the process of the impact of team entrepreneurial passion on the performance of the innovator but no significant difference in the mediating effects of the two. Entrepreneurial passion drives the tobacco products entrepreneurs to make a strong emotional commitment to the new innovator and invest much effort, and entrepreneurial learning is an effective way to help solve the problem of the new innovator. The research results can help to further interpret the mechanism of the role of the tobacco products entrepreneurial enthusiasm on the performance of innovators, expand the mediating factors between the two from psychological to behavioral factors, enrich the research on the performance promotion mechanism of new innovators, promote the organization learning behavior combined with entrepreneurship research, and also provide references and suggestions for the tobacco products entrepreneurs to improve their entrepreneurial performance through learning behaviors.

Purpose First, this paper aims to explore how CEO humility and relationship conflict in entrepreneurial teams affect the firm-level performance of new ventures. Second, it investigates the moderating effect of CEO political skills on the indirect association between CEO humility and entrepreneurial performance through relationship conflict in entrepreneurial teams. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire survey was administered to CEOs and their entrepreneurial team members in 171 start-ups in Shanghai, China. The data obtained from the survey were subjected to multiple regression analysis using the SPSS PROCESS macro and confirmatory factor analysis using Mplus. Findings The findings are as follows. First, CEO humility can reduce relationship conflict in entrepreneurial teams. Second, CEO political skills moderate the link between CEO humility and relationship conflict in entrepreneurial teams. The weaker the CEO political skills, the stronger the effect of CEO humility on relationship conflict, and the stronger the CEO political skills, the weaker the effect of CEO humility on relationship conflict. Third, relationship conflict in entrepreneurial teams is negatively related to entrepreneurial performance. Finally, CEO political skills moderate the mediating effect of entrepreneurial team relationship conflict on the CEO humility – entrepreneurial performance link. Practical implications The findings of this study offer guidance for entrepreneurs seeking to improve firm performance. The findings suggest that entrepreneurs should adopt a humble leadership style that cultivates their strengths and minimizes their weaknesses. To improve the centripetal force and cohesion of the entrepreneurial team, they should focus on the team, affirm the contribution of subordinates and accept subordinates’ advice. Originality/value The study reveals that CEO humility has a positive effect on entrepreneurial performance, which enriches research on the effectiveness of humble leadership at the firm level. From the perspective of team relationship conflict, the study also explores the mechanism underlying the effect of CEO humility on entrepreneurial performance, opening the “black box” of CEO humility and entrepreneurial effectiveness. In addition, the study reveals the boundary conditions of the influence of CEO humility, enriching the theoretical literature on humble leadership, political skills and resource conservation.

This chapter introduces entrepreneurial self-efficacy, a psychological cognitive factor, into the context of entrepreneurship, trying to sort out the internal mechanism of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, dual entrepreneurial learning, and entrepreneurial performance and construct a theoretical model. The hypothesis is that entrepreneurial self-efficacy has a positive effect on both dual entrepreneurial learning and new venture performance. Dual entrepreneurial learning has a positive impact on the performance of new ventures and acts as a mediator between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial performance. The empirical results show that entrepreneurial self-efficacy can promote exploratory entrepreneurial learning and the improvement of new venture performance. Exploratory entrepreneurial learning plays a mediating role in the effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on the performance of start-ups, while entrepreneurial learning can't play a mediating role in the process of exploitative entrepreneurial learning.

Tobacco addiction is a major public health problem. Numerous scientific studies have been conducted on the harms of tobacco products. However, the number of intervention studies investigating the effect of long-term awareness of the harm of tobacco products on the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) and Respiratory Function Test (RFT) are limited. Our goal is to investigate the impact of long-term scientific awareness on these parameters. The study was designed an intervention study on active and passive smoking participants and their control groups. Control groups were not given any training on the harms of tobacco products. When comparing the first and last weeks in active smoker intervention group (ASIG), the difference between FTND, FEV1, CO, and COHb parameters was observed to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The highest decrease in ASIG was in CO (↓60%) parameter and the highest increase was in the FEV1(↑%10) parameter. There was a significant difference both FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC (p<0.05) and CO parameters of passive smokers intervention group (PSIG). The highest decrease in PSIG was in the CO parameter (↓%65.8) and the highest increase was in the FVC (↑%10) parameter. Awareness programs may reduce the severity of addiction in active smokers and may help protect passive smokers. As awareness increases, positive changes in some vital parameters may be possible. Up-to-date programs and policies are needed to make easy and sustainable awareness of both active and passive smoking.

ABSTRACTUsing survey data from China and India, we explore the impact of network strategy of new ventures in emerging markets. We focus on two critical dimensions of network strategy, namely, broadening and deepening the network and two types of knowledge: market knowledge and technological knowledge. We find that proactive network deepening is associated with market knowledge and network broadening with technological knowledge. From a network perspective, our work highlights the counterintuitive outcomes of breadth versus depth orientation in network strategy, highlighting differences between advanced and emerging economies. We use a post-hoc multi-group analysis to show the differences even within the two emerging markets: India and China. The direct effect of partnering proactiveness on market knowledge in India is significantly higher than that in China but there is no significant difference as to the effect of technological knowledge. We use this exploratory study to highlight the opportunities for network and entrepreneurship scholars to study emerging markets and, in particular, undertake comparative studies between new ventures in China and India.

Purpose – This paper aims to examine the possible benefits and effects of shared vision and integration on entrepreneurial management for new Chinese ventures. By examining new enterprises, rather than already established and operating firms, this study can better demonstrate the impact of shared vision and internal or external integration on entrepreneurial performance. The empirical analyses demonstrate the importance of shared vision and both types of integration for new ventures, particularly enterprises in China. Design/methodology/approach – This study collected data from firms in Greater China, including China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Five hypotheses were tested, for which the total sample size was 246 respondents. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were applied for statistical analyses. Findings – The results indicate that entrepreneurial vision correlates positively with shared vision. In its turn, shared vision correlates positively with internal integration and external integration. Furthermore, internal integration correlates positively with entrepreneurial performance. Although external integration is essential during new enterprise establishment, analytical results indicate that external integration is not strongly correlated with entrepreneurial performance. Practical implications – Shared vision plays a critical role in the integration process during the establishment of new enterprises. The results of this study show that newly established firms need to put more efforts than do operating firms into integrating external resources. Originality – / value This study contributes to a better understanding of the effects of shared vision and the different kinds of integration on entrepreneurial management. Knowing the driving forces behind these phenomena may help new firms to engage more actively in resources integration and enhance their entrepreneurial performance.

The COVID-19 pandemic severely hit small and micro-businesses. In the face of the impact of the pandemic, how to help entrepreneurs, especially small- and micro-businesses that are more sensitive to the impact of the pandemic, make decisions to reduce losses has become an issue worth paying attention to. From the perspective of personality approach, this article studied openness, which is the strongest predictor of entrepreneurial performance among the big five personality traits, and explored the impact of entrepreneurs’ openness on entrepreneurial performance during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the inconsistent mediating role of strategic decision comprehensiveness on entrepreneurial performance. An online questionnaire survey was conducted among 238 entrepreneurs of small- and micro-businesses when China was recovering from the pandemic and starting to resume work and production (February 18 – February 26, 2020). Entrepreneurial performance during the COVID-19 pandemic was measured by comparing the business conditions before and after the pandemic. The results showed that entrepreneurs’ openness positively impacted strategic decision comprehensiveness and entrepreneurial performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the two competing hypotheses proposed by summarizing previous research, the results supported that strategic decision comprehensiveness negatively affected entrepreneurial performance. It indicated that entrepreneurs who tend to collect and analyze information extensively and then make decisions during the pandemic could not seize opportunities and improve their entrepreneurial performance. The results further supported that strategic decision comprehensiveness was an inconsistent mediator between openness and entrepreneurial performance, showing that entrepreneurs with low openness can also reduce the loss of entrepreneurial performance during the pandemic by making incomplete but rapid strategic decisions. This study found that the openness of entrepreneurs had a positive impact on strategic decision comprehensiveness for the first time and provided more empirical evidence for the negative effect of strategic decision comprehensiveness on entrepreneurial performance in the context of information uncertainty and unanalyzable situations. The inconsistent mediating effect of strategic decision comprehensiveness revealed in this study also has practical significance for helping entrepreneurs make correct decisions to reduce the losses caused by the pandemic.

ABSTRACTTobacco smoking impairs mucociliary clearance (MCC) efficiency as shown by prolonged saccharin test transit time (STTT). Avoiding exposure to tobacco smoke from combustible cigarettes may restore MCC function and former smokers have been shown to exhibit similar STTT as never smokers. The impact of switching from smoking to combustion-free tobacco products such as e-cigarettes (ECs) and heated tobacco products (HTPs) on STTT is not known. We report STTT of exclusive EC and HTP users. Test results were compared to those obtained in current, former, and never smokers.STTT were obtained from 39 current, 40 former, 40 never smokers and from 20 EC and 20 HTP users. Comparison of STTT values showed significant difference among the five study groups (p< 0.00001) with current smokers having a median (IQR) STTT of 13.15 min, which was significantly longer compared to that of all other study groups. In particular, compared to former (7.26 min) and never smokers (7.24 min), exclusive EC users and exclusive HTP users had similar STTT at 7.00 and 8.00 min respectively.Ex-smokers who have switched to exclusive regular use of combustion-free nicotine delivery systems (i.e. ECs and HTPs) exhibit similar saccharin transit time as never and former smokers. This suggests that combustion-free nicotine delivery technologies are unlikely to have detrimental effects on MCC function.
