Background: Endometrial lesion presenting as abnormal uterine bleeding, abdominal pain and menstrual irregularities form most common presenting complaint in women of reproductive age group and in premenopausal women. Endometrial sampling is a safe and effective diagnostic step in evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). The present study was carried out to establish histopathological diagnosis of precursor and neoplastic lesions of endometrial samplings in correlation with clinical details and other investigations.Methods: A two-year prospective study was carried out in the department of pathology in a tertiary care hospital from June 2013-May 2015 which included endometrial samplings of precursor and neoplastic lesions. All cases were analyzed histopathologically.Results: The study included 46 cases comprising 30% of total 153 endometrial samplings. Out of these, precursor lesions were 36 cases (23.6%) and malignant were 10 case (5.8%). The highest incidence of precursor lesions (endometrial hyperplasia) was in the age group of 41- 50 years. Among the precursor lesions, endometrial hyperplasia without atypia (86%) was the commonest observation followed by atypical hyperplasia (14%).Conclusions: For the correct evaluation of cases presenting with AUB, histopathological evaluation of endometrial samplings is the gold standard method.

: Abnormal uterine bleeding is a common clinical presentation in the perimenopausal age group its biopsy serves as an excellent clue to the underlying disease. The presentation may vary according to the type of endometrial hyperplasia and their correlation helps in the proper management of the patients complain.: To analyze the histopathological patterns of endometrial hyperplasia as well as to correlate endometrial hyperplasia with the clinical parameters.: It is a retrospective study and included one year data. A total of 125 cases that underwent hysterectomies or endometrial biopsies for abnormal uterine bleeding were recorded with their clinical history. For all cases the histopathology slides were re-evaluated and results were recorded. Epidemiological variables were analyzed by cross tabulation to assess their relationship. Out of 125 cases 53 cases had endometrial hyperplasia, 24 cases were having simple hyperplasia followed by 14 cases with simple hyperplasia without atypia, 9 cases with complex hyperplasia with atypia followed by 6 cases with complex hyperplasia without atypia. 30 to 50 years age group commonly had endometrial hyperplasia & menorrhagia was the common clinical complain in our patients.: In all the females coming to OPD with abnormal uterine bleeding clinical correlation should be properly made with biopsy report of the patient for the proper management of the condition, which avoids landing up of the patient into further complication.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding is one of the common gynecological complaints of women of all age groups. Histopathological study of endometrial biopsy and curettage samples is an effective diagnostic modality that can be used to identify cause of AUB at its earliest. This study was done to investigate the various endometrial causes of AUB that frequently come to our hospital and their incidence in various age groups i.e. reproductive, perimenopausal and postmenopausal.Methods: This study was conducted on 108 patients who clinically presented with AUB and had their endometrial biopsy and curettage specimens sent to the histopathology department of our tertiary care hospital and teaching centre, located in Uttar Pradesh from June 2018 to May 2019. The endometrial patterns were observed, and their frequencies and percentages were computed and classified age group wise.Results: These studies included patients with age range from 19 to 77 years. The predominant age group with AUB was reproductive age group (<40 years). The most common histopathological finding in this study was normal menstrual pattern (48.15 %). The endometrial pathologies observed were hormonal imbalance and pill effect (22.22%), atrophic endometrium (10.19%), chronic endometritis (5.56%), benign endometrial polyp (4.63%), gestation products (3.70%), endometrial hyperplasia (3.70%), and endometrial carcinoma (1.85%). Conclusion: The most commonly known cause of AUB in reproductive age group is due to hormonal imbalance. Endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma are usually more common in the perimenopausal and postmenopausal age groups. Overall, in patients with no organic cause of AUB, normal cyclical endometrial pattern is the most prevalent endometrial pattern observed.Conclusions: The most commonly known cause of AUB in reproductive age group is due to hormonal imbalance. Endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma are usually more common in the perimenopausal and postmenopausal age groups. Overall, in patients with no organic cause of AUB, normal cyclical endometrial pattern is the most prevalent endometrial pattern observed.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a very common, challenging gynaecological problem in all age group women. Neoplastic lesions are responsible for very less number of cases but they should be diagnosed early. Endometrial biopsy is necessary for histopathological diagnosis of endometrial lesions and to rule out any malignancy. In present study, we evaluated histopathological pattern of endometrium and different clinical parameters in AUB patients.Methods: A retrospective observational study done in Obstetrics and Gynecology department of SSMC Rewa, Madhya Pradesh in 2 year from 1st October 2017 to 30th September 2019. AUB patients who fulfilled inclusion criteria were included in study. All data were collected from department records in predesigned proforma and statistically analyzed by statistical package for the Social sciences (SPSS) version 20.Results: Total 366 AUB patients were included in study; most frequent clinical presentation was HMB (56%). Mostly patient’s age ranged from 24-84 years, belonged to 41-50 years age group (44%), multiparous (78%), and premenopausal (53%). On histopathological evaluation of endometrium most commonly nonneoplastic lesions (75%) were seen, out of which proliferative phase endometrium was most frequent. Neoplastic lesions were seen in 25% cases. Out of which benign lesions were noted in 7%, premalignant in 17.3% and malignant in 1% (all in >45 year patients).Conclusions: Endometrial biopsy should be done in all AUB patients >45 years and in selected premenopausal in order to get early diagnosis, to rule out malignancy and to help in management. Endometrial biopsy should be considered as first diagnostic modality.

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most common indications for hysteroscopy. Most of the AUB cases occur due to endometrial or myometrium pathology. Among it, endometrial polyps (EP) and chronic endometritis (CE) prevalent in reproductive age, while endometrial hyperplasia (EH) and EP dominate in perimenopause. It was determined that EP and CE are characterized with menorrhagia and metrorrhagia approximately equally, whereas EH reveals AUB with oligomenorrhoea. Verification of exact endometrial pathology by ultrasound examination is hindered, that results in deviations of ultrasound and histological diagnosis. The usage of ultrasound data and AUB’s characteristics may improve the diagnostic accuracy on preadmission period.

Introduction: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common disorder occurring in reproductive age group females. It can be understood as bleeding that occurs from the uterus outside the normal parameters and there is no structural defects in the genital tract. One of the most common association with AUB is thyroid dysfunctions. Hence this study aimed to see the incidence of thyroid related disorders in AUB and also to assess the menstrual pattern. Material and Methods: 100 women suffering from AUB who presented to OPD of Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, Gaya, Bihar were recruited in the study. All females in 19 to 45 years of age group with abnormal uterine bleeding were included excluding those with previously known thyroid disorder, abortion history within 3 months etc. Thyroid function tests were done in all along with ultrasonography of pelvis region. Statistical analysis done. Results: The bleeding abnormality that was found in the most of the women was heavy menstrual bleeding. Women who presented with thyroid dysfunction were 33%. 23% had subclinical hypothyroidism, 6% had hypothyroidism and 4% had hyperthyroidism. Conclusion: Abnormal Uterine Bleeding has strong association with thyroid disorders. Most common type of disorder is subclinical hypothyroidism. Thus all patient of AUB must be evaluated for thyroid dysfunction

Background: AUB is any abnormal uterine bleeding in the absence of any palpable pelvic pathology and demonstrable extra genital causes. AUB is responsible for 10% of gynaecological complaints. Thyroid hormone is very important to affect the menstrual pattern. The objective of this study was to evaluate thyroid function test in women with AUB and to assess the menstrual pattern in women with thyroid dysfunction.Methods: The present study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Laxmi Narasimha Hospital, Hanamkonda, Hyderabad, Telangana, India 80 women of reproductive age group between 15-45 years women with menstrual disorders like menorrhagia, oligomenorrhea, hypomenorrhea, polymenorrhea, metrorrhagia, and amenorrhea. Quantitative determination of T3, T4, and TSH by CLIA estimated in autoanlyser.Results: About 80 women participated in the study in which Most of the subjects belong to 26-30 years of age group. Maximum patients i.e. 41 (51.2%) patients were para one to 2. Commonest cause bleeding pattern was menorrhagia 41.25%. 15 apparently normal patients with AUB belonged to the category of subclinical hypothyroidism (15%). Hormonal levels revealing profound hypothyroidism in patients without any symptoms was present in only 10% of cases. 2.5% of cases had hyperthyroidism though they were clinically normal. Patients who were sub-clinically hypothyroid were maximally presenting as polymenorrhoea (50%) and menorrhagia (12.1%) and only 6.27% of patients had oligomenorrhoea. Patients who were profound hypothyroid were predominantly having polymenorrhagia (83.3%) and (62.5%) of patients had oligomenorrhoea.Conclusions: So, biochemical evaluation of thyroid functioning should be made mandatory in all provisionally diagnosed cases of AUB to detect thyroid dysfunction.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most commonly encountered gynecological problem and almost 33 % of women in gynecological outpatient department presented with abnormal uterine bleeding. Dilatation and curettage (D and C) have been the main diagnostic procedure in the evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding patients for decades. The objective of the present study was to analyze the different types of endometrial histopathology of patients presented with the abnormal uterine bleeding and its correlation with the different types of abnormal uterine bleedingMethods: This is a retrospective study, conducted in a medical college in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology over a period of one year from June ’17 to June ’18. All cases of AUB more than 35 years of the age group who underwent D and C procedure were included in this study. Total 100 patients were analyzed.Results: Total 100 patients were analyzed. Age group ranges from 35-58 years and most common age group presenting with AUB was 35-39 years. The most common presenting complaint was menorrhagia 54% (54/100). Histopathology of endometrium showed non-organic causes in 80% (80/100) of AUB patients and the remaining 20% (20/100) had organic causes. Most common endometrial histopathology among non-organic causes was proliferative endometrium 43.75% (35/80) and the most common organic cause was endometrial polyp 40% (8/20). Endometrial hyperplasia was found in 30% (6/20) and endometrial carcinoma was found in 20% (4/20) of cases among organic causes.Conclusions: D and C is the useful and the cost-effective diagnostic procedure in the evaluation of AUB. Histopathological evaluation of endometrial samples is especially indicated in AUB patients to rule out carcinoma and preneoplastic conditions as histopathology is 100% diagnostic in cases of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma.

Background: Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism leads to menstrual irregularities. Females with thyroid gland abnormality have chances of reproductive abnormalities ranging from abnormal sexual development, menstrual irregularities, infertility and premature menopause. The objectives were to study the association between thyroid dysfunction and AUB in the reproductive age group (18-45 years), To study the thyroid abnormalities in different types of AUB in the reproductive age group, to establish if screening for thyroid abnormalities is justified using T3, T4 and TSH.Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted among 250 women with ‘abnormal uterine bleeding’ (AUB). Inclusion criteria for participants were females in the age group of 18-45 years, females presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding, with thyroid dysfunction, females who do not have signs of demonstrable pelvic pathologyincluding PID.Results: Majority of the patients belonged to the age group of 24 - 32 years i.e.56.8%, 9.2% cases were nullipara, 44.0% cases have menorrhagia, 32.2% have oliogomennorrhea, 19.6% have amenorrhea. Around 3.6% had Thyromegaly, 12.4% have weight gain in hypothyroidism, 28.4% have fatigue in hyperthyroidism, 6.8% cases have higher T4 level, 18.0% cases have higher TSH level.Conclusions: The risk of progression to overt hypothyroidism (about 5% per year) in patients with subclinical disease and the cost-benefit ratio also emphasises the need for selective screening. Early detection of subclinical disease by selective screening facilitates appropriate therapy early in the course of the disease.
