As a result of dwindling fossil fuel reserves and the negative impact of greenhouse gases (GHGs) on the environment, it is important that the search for a power grid that will comprise of only variable renewable energy (VRE) generation sources such as wind or solar energy which is available everywhere for free is given much attention. The main challenge associated with these sources of energy is their variability and random nature. It is as a result of instability introduced by the VRE generation sources, that is why there is a strict control measures put in place by the regulators as to how much VRE generation sources can feed into the power grid in the case of its integration into an existing power grid. It becomes imperative to consider implications for grid stability and reliability when considering a power grid that will consist of VRE generation only. Eigenvalue approach was used to analysed the performance of anticipated large-scale VRE grid to ascertain its behaviour. Eigenvalue approach is one of the methods to examine the stability of a power system’s dynamic performance. The results indicated that it is possible to attain the necessary stability provided the assumptions made during the modelling stage is revised to improve upon the model.

The large scale photovoltaic plants have more effects on the stability of regional power grid with the rapid increase of photovoltaic generation ratio in some areas. According to the grid guideline, the photovoltaic inverter is required to maintain the running status even the grid voltage drops and needs to have the capability to contribute towards the stability of power grid voltage and to support the grid voltage ride through. To test the ability of photovoltaic inverter low voltage ride through (LVRT), the test platform to simulate all kinds of fault for voltage drop needs to be set up. By the low voltage through technical requirements, this paper puts forward three kinds of design for test platform and analyzes respective work principle and characteristics, in order to provide optimization solution for the low voltage ride through test work.

The goal of a future free from schistosomiasis in Ghana can be achieved through integrated strategies, targeting simultaneously several stages of the life cycle of the schistosome parasite. In this paper, the transmission of schistosomiasis is modeled as a multi-scale 12-dimensional system of ODEs that includes vector-host and within-host dynamics of infection. An explicit expression for the basic reproduction number [Formula: see text] is obtained via the next generation method, this expression being interpreted in biological terms, as well as in terms of reproductive numbers for each type of interaction involved. After discussing the stability of the disease-free equilibrium and the existence and uniqueness of the endemic equilibrium, the Center Manifold Theory is used to show that for values of [Formula: see text] larger than 1, but close to 1, the unique endemic equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable. A sensitivity analysis indicates that [Formula: see text] is most sensitive to the natural death rate of the vector population, while numerical simulations of optimal control strategies reveal that the most effective strategy for the control and possible elimination of schistosomiasis should combine sanitary measures (access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene education), large-scale treatment of infected population and vector control measures (via the use of molluscicides), for a significant amount of time.

A triangular transfer hall is planned be built to distribute passenger flow rationally and improve multi-line transfer capability in the city of Shanghai, China. A large-scale reinforced-concrete bracing system, which is established to ensure the stability of the foundation pit, will be demolished with the completion of foundation pit. The influences of construction vibration on the surrounding environment are concerned. An evaluation method, which is generally applied to the ground vibrations caused by operation of machines, road and railway traffic, and construction activities such as piling and blasting, is then extended to assess the ground vibrations generated by structure demolition. It is found that the ground vibrations generated by demolition construction will affect the environment and human activities if without any vibration control measures.

Large-scale wind farm connecting to the grid will affect the stability of the grid, therefore dynamic reactive power compensation devices need to be installed at the wind farm in order to reduce the negative impact after connecting to the grid, andimprove the low voltageridethrough capability of the grid system wind turbine. Simulation models of a wind farm and SVCare built in PSCAD. In different fault location, simulations are carried out respectively to analyze the effect of SVC on LVRT. The results show that SVC can effectively improve the LVRT capability.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation has strong intermittency and volatility due to its high dependence on solar radiation and other meteorological factors. Therefore, the negative impact of grid-connected PV on power systems has become one of the constraints in the development of large scale PV systems. Accurate forecasting of solar power generation and flexible planning and operational measures are of great significance to ensure safe, stable, and economical operation of a system with high penetration of solar generation at transmission and distribution levels. In this paper, studies on the following aspects are reviewed: (1) this paper comprehensively expounds the research on forecasting techniques of PV power generation output. (2) In view of the new challenge brought by the integration of high proportion solar generation to the frequency stability of power grid, this paper analyzes the mechanisms of influence between them and introduces the current technical route of PV power generation participating in system frequency regulation. (3) This section reviews the feasible measures that facilitate the inter-regional and wide-area consumption of intermittent solar power generation. At the end of this paper, combined with the actual demand of the development of power grid and PV power generation, the problems that need further attention in the future are prospected.

The geomagnetic storm which is caused by the sun's activity is a global natural disaster. For the transformer neutral line connects to the earth directly, the geomagnetic storms can induce GIC in the loop formed by the earth and the transmission lines with long distance. The GIC has very big effect on the safe operation of electric power system when it flows in power grid. It includes the main damages on power system equipment caused by the GIC, the introduction of the GIC generation principle, main features, analysis algorithm and some control measures in this paper. Finally, point out that the GIC of the long distance transmission system and large-scale power grid should be paid more attention.

Abstract The development of new energy vehicles is an important measure to deal with the growing energy demand and climate change. Especially in recent years, with the support of national policies and the maturity of electric vehicles(EVs) related technologies, the number of EVs has increased explosively, and the situation is very good. However, it also means that a large number of charging loads will be connected to the power grid, which will put great pressure on the safe and stable operation of the power grid. Although there have been many studies on the impact of EVs integration into modern power grid, most of the EVs load models are based on probability function and lack accuracy. Therefore, starting with the actual operation data of EVs charging station, this paper studies the influence of a large number of EVs charging loads on the static voltage stability of power grid. It is found that the charging load of large-scale EVs is added to the power grid, which significantly reduces the stability of power grid voltage, especially at the place connected to the EVs load and far away from the balance node. In addition, when the charging station adopts the time-of-use(TOU) price strategy, it can effectively improve the voltage stability of the whole network.

To test the dynamic performance and damping features of a static var compensator (SVC) controller accurately in large-scale interconnected AC/DC hybrid power systems, it is of vital significance to build the detailed electromagnetic transient model. However, it is unrealistic and time-consuming to build the detailed models of all the devices in the actual large-scale power grid. Utilizing the hybrid simulation function in the advanced digital power system simulator (ADPSS) and by dividing the large-scale power grid into the electromagnetic transient sub-grids and electromechanical sub-grids, the computation speed of real-time simulation is remarkably enhanced by the parallel computational capabilities of digital simulator. The SVC controller and the nearby substation are modelled in the electromagnetic transient sub-grid, and the residue sub-networks are modelled in the electromechanical sub-grid. This paper focuses on the mechanism of the hybrid electromechanical and electromagnetic simulation, the detailed modelling and the ADPSS-based digital closed-loop test methodologies of the SVC controller. Eventually, the validity and effectiveness of the modelling and control methods are confirmed by the experimental results.
