Have you ever wondered that there’s a leader within you? On a daily basis we face situations that are outside the scope of our control but we are, most of the times, forced to deal with it. Sometimes there is no escape allowed and we knowingly or unknowingly display leadership qualities in our behaviour. Moreover, it is not wise to run away from situations but logical to face them boldly. In this sense, I believe that we are the leader of our actions. However, one cannot be simply termed as a leader unless one strives to develop the qualities. This article speaks about developing the leader in you. It makes us aware about the leadership development programmes and building leaders at the workplace.

The article reveals the requirements for a modern specialist, who should be characterized by the properties and qualities of adaptive leadership. The reasons are noted for the improper formation of this phenomenon of future specialists in higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan. As one of the most important, it is considered - the unavailability of a higher education teacher to carry out activities to educate future specialists of the properties and qualities of adaptive leadership. Attention is drawn to the fact that the development of adaptive leadership qualities in the context of the traditional informational subject (linear) training system is impossible. Attention is focused on the fact that, in the conditions of the challenges of the XXI century, being an adaptive leader is the norm for a modern specialist. The author reveals the role and significance of the synergetic approach in the formation of adaptive leadership among students.

The article considers initiation as a means of developing leadership qualities of socially active high school students. The research featured the development of leadership skills in socially active high school students in the School of Leaders organized by Kemerovo State University. The paper reviews theoretical ideas about leadership as an object of psychological and pedagogical research. The author determined the content characteristics of social competence as the basis of leadership manifestation and described the features of the development of leadership qualities in socially active high school students. The article describes various socialization projects implemented in Russian universities and considers the phenomenon of initiation employed in "The Republic of Restless Hearts". The initiation project is based on a forming experiment and proved effective in the local School of Leaders. The research results can help to improve the process of leadership development of socially active high school students in various youth organizations. The results were implemented in practice to develop leadership skills of socially active high school students during the Regional Professional Camp of youth organizations "The Republic of Restless Hearts" and can be of practical use to other youth organizations.

Many school leaders today are experiencing many challenges to ensure that their schools are successful.  Since the passage of No Child Left Behind Act, school leaders have been faced with making sure that all students, regardless of language and/or background, are successful on the state assessment test.  If students do not make AYP Annual Yearly Progress based on set standards, the school leader is viewed as not being effective.  The school leader/administrator is at the front-line for their school’s progress on a daily basis and just to name a few items, school safety, appropriate curriculum and accommodations for students, high quality instruction service to all students and utilizing technology to enhance instruction and management tasks (Lashway, 2003).  This research paper will discuss aspects and trends in leadership in the following areas:  leadership standards, leadership development, shared leadership, support for school leadership, change in mission, facility planning and designing, classroom configuration, use of school time, early programs, special programs, school transfer, use of technology and virtual schools.

This article discusses the issue of leadership development in school-age children undergoing training under the educational program of the international children’s center «Artek». As a scientific substantiation of this topic, a study is also given based on the test of E. Zharikov, E. Krushelnitsky on the dynamics of the development of leadership qualities of the respondents, their communication and social skills in the short period of the camp shift — 21 days. Particular attention is paid to the age characteristics of the children participating in this study and their ability to navigate in an unfamiliar environment, adaptation and socialization in non-standard conditions of stay. In the course of this work, the results of the dynamics of leadership qualities in the process of educational activities with children are presented by the teaching staff of the camp.

In this paper, the author examines the effect of leader attributes on the collective efficacy of a group of members of Generation Next, and the interrelation of leadership and collective efficacy on the team’s performance. A case study approach was implemented by 3 teams of business students participating in a national business competition between the years 2009-2011. Results indicate transformational leadership qualities inspire greater levels of collective efficacy. Moreover, teams demonstrating higher collective efficacy also performed better in the competition, suggesting a positive relationship between collective efficacy and team performance. Implications of these findings are discussed and a scope for future research is offered.

The article is devoted to the description of a specially organized program for the development of leadership qualities in psychology students. The approbation of the author's program showed that the program is an effective psychological and pedagogical condition for the development of leadership qualities in psychology students of pedagogical universities.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore which factors motivate doctors to engage in leadership roles and to frame an inquiry of self-assessment within Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to identify the extent to which a group of occupational health physicians (OHPs) was able to self-determine their leadership needs, using a National Health Service (NHS) England competency approach promoted by the NHS England Leadership Academy as a self-assessment leadership diagnostic. Medical leadership is seen as crucial to the transformation of health-care services, yet leadership programmes are often designed with a top-down and centrally commissioned “one-size-fits-all” approach. In the UK, the Smith Review (2015) concluded that more decentralised and locally designed leadership development programmes were needed to meet the health-care challenges of the future. However, there is an absence of empirical research to inform the design of effective strategies that will engage and motivate doctors to take up leadership roles, while at the same time, health-care organisations continue to develop formal leadership roles as a way to secure medical leadership engagement. The problem is further compounded by a lack of validated leadership qualities assessment instruments which support researching this problem. Design/Methodology/approach The analysis draws on a sample of about 25 per cent of the total population size of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (n = 1,000). The questionnaire used was the Leadership Qualities Framework tool as a form of online self-assessment (NHS Leadership Academy, 2012). The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and simple inferential methods. Findings OHPs are open about reporting their leadership strengths and leadership development needs and recognise leadership learning as an ongoing development need regardless of their level of personal competence. This study found that the single most important factor to affect a doctor’s confidence in leadership is their experience in a management role. In multivariate regression, management experience accounted for the usefulness of leadership training, suggesting that doctors learn best through applied “leadership learning” as opposed to theory-driven programmes. Drawing on SDT (Deci and Ryan, 1985; 2000; Ryan and Deci, 2000), this article provides a theoretical framework that helps to understand those doctors who are likely to engage in leadership and management activities in the organisation. More choice and self-determination of medical leadership programmes are likely to result in more relevant leadership learning that builds on doctors’ previous experience in this area. Research limitations/implications While this study benefitted from a large sample size, it was limited to the use of purely quantitative methods. Future studies would benefit from the application of a mixed methodology to combine quantitative data with one-to-one interviews or a focus group. Practical implications This study suggests that doctors are able to determine their own learning needs reliably and that they are more likely to increase their confidence in leadership and management if they are exposed to leadership and management experience. Originality/value This is the first large-scale study of this kind with a large sample within a single medical specialty. The study is considered as insider research, as the first author is an OHP with knowledge of how to engage OHPs in this work.

In this paper, some specific issues of student leadership development in Kazakhstan universities were consid-ered. The authors draw attention to the fact that leadership development is now becoming an integral part of the undergraduate and graduate educational programs. This paper reviews different leadership approaches and theories to analyze the question of student leadership development and gives the historical classification of leadership studies in the USA. Likewise, in the paper, a brief review was given to the experience of Toraighyrov University in implementing a specific leadership development program, which is designed with taking into account the cultural, professional and educational uniqueness of the region. The researchers of the article offer another alternative way for leadership skills development — creation of a leadership school in the form of non-government organization. Based on the theoretical research conducted by the authors, the main ways of formation of leadership qualities and necessary skills due to several objective and subjective circumstances were identified.
