Agronomic evaluation of mungbean genotypes under delayed sowing conditions

High yielding varieties and suitable sowing time are the most important factors affecting the mungbean yield. Field experiments were carried out during kharif 2013 and 2014 at Dryland Agricultural Research Station, Budgam, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir, India to find out the suitable genotype of mungbean under delayed sowing conditions. The early sowing (first fortnight of June) recorded higher yield contributing characters ( seeds/plant and 100 seed weight) and seed yield than delayed sowing. Among genotypes ‘SKUA-M-365’ recorded higher 100-seed weight and seed yield in early sowing as well as under delayed sowing conditions.

A field experiment on okra taking the variety BARI Dharos-1 with four nitrogen levels (0, 75, 125 and 175 kg/ha) and six levels of green fruit picking (no green fruit picking, first two, first four, first six, first eight and first ten green fruit picking) was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Raikhali, Rangamati Hill District to find out the optimum N level and suitable number of green fruit picking during the summer seasons of 2005 and 2006 for the highest economic benefit. The plants were grown for both vegetable and seed production. Growth parameters, green fruit as well as dry fruit characters, seed yield attributes were significantly affected by different levels of N and green fruit picking. Nitrogen levels and green fruit picking increased number of dry fruits per plant, number of seeds per fruit, weight of seeds per fruit and seed yield. Application of N @ 125 kg/ha gave the highest fruit and seed yield of okra followed by 175 kg N/ha. These two N levels also produced maximum 100-seed weight, percentage of germination and seed vigour. The treatment of picking of 10 green fruits produced the highest green fruit yield/ha. But picking of first 4 green fruits produced maximum seed yield, which was statistically at par with those of 2 and 6 green fruits picking. First 4 green fruit picking gave the highest seed vigour whereas first 6 green fruit pickings produced maximum 100-seed weight. Picking of first 4 green fruits accompanied with 175 kg N/ha gave the highest seed yield of 2.86 t/ha, which was closely followed by picking of first 2 or 6 green fruits with 125 kg as well as 175 kg N/ha. Picking of first 2 or 4 green fruits in combination with 125 kg N/ha also gave the similar seed yield. The combination of 125 kg N/ha and first 6 green fruit picking gave the highest gross income (Tk.193.56/ha), net return (Tk.126.35/ha) and maximum BCR of 2.88. Abstract The present investigation was carried out to evaluate agronomic performance and oil quality of seven sunflower genotypes at Shandaweel Research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Sohag, Egypt during 2018 and 2019 summer seasons. These genetic materials were sown in a randomized complete block design having three replications. Significant genetic variations among evaluated sunflower genotypes for agronomic traits and oil quality were observed. The superior sunflower genotypes were Line 120 for seed yield per hectare (3102.38 kg), Sakha 53 for seed oil content (44.63 %) and Line 125 for oil quality where it contained the highest proportion of unsaturated fatty acids (89.20 %). The phenotypic coefficients of variation were slightly higher than genotypic coefficients of variation for all studied traits. High heritability (exceeded 60%) and genetic advance as percent of mean (ranged from medium to high, exceeded 10%) was observed for most studied traits. Seed yield per plant positively correlated with plant height, stem diameter, head diameter, and 100-seed weight and most chemical traits at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Maximum phenotypic direct effects on seed yield per plant were observed for 100-seed weight, head diameter and total unsaturated fatty acids. While, the highest genotypic direct effect on seed yield per plant was observed for head diameter. Hence, most studied traits could be employed as selection criteria for improving evaluated sunflower genotypes.

Gila safflower and RR 204 linseed were grown under irrigation at Kimberley Research Station in the 1964 dry season after 6-months and 18-months clean and weedy fallows. Four levels of nitrogen fertilizer, as ammonium sulphate and as urea, were superimposed. Seed yield responses to nitrogen fertilizer up to 80 lb N an acre (safflower) and 160 lb N an acre (linseed) were obtained after weedy fallows, but after 18 months clean fallow neither crop showed a significant response to nitrogen fertilizer up to 160 lb N an acre. Ammonium sulphate was more effective than urea at equivalent rates of nitrogen per acre. The amount of nitrate-nitrogen in the top three feet of soil shortly before planting was related to the total nitrogen yield of linseed at maturity, which, in turn, was closely related to seed yield. Increases in seed yield of linseed with clean fallowing and nitrogen fertilizer were largely the result of increases in bolls per plant and 100-seed weight.

Field experiments were carried out at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Ishurdi, Pabna during the rabi season of 2005-06 and 2006-07 to find out the effectiveness of Rhizobium strains for achieving higher yield of lentil, the variety BARI Masur–4. There were six treatments that were Rhizobium strains- BARI RLc-104, BARI RLc-105, BARI RLc-106, BARI RLc–107, mixed culture of the four strains, and control (no Rhizobium). The experiment was designed in randomized complete block having 4 replications of each treatment.The rhizobial inocula were peat based and used @ 1.5 kg/ha. A basal dose of P @ 22 kg/ha, K @ 42 kg/ha, S @ 20 kg/ha, and @ 5 kg Zn/ha was used for all treatments. The highest nodule number (11.7/plant in 2006 and 10.3/plant in 2007) and dry nodule weight (10.53 mg/plant in 2006 and 9.58 mg/plant in 2007) were found with mixed culture. Mixed culture produced the highest seed yield in 2006 (1.36 t/ha, 37.4% higher over uninoculated control) and in 2007, BARI RLc-104 recorded the highest seed yield (1.23 t/ha, 60.3% higher over uninoculated control). Field trials were conducted at Teaching and Research Farm of Federal University, Dutsina, Katsina State and Institute for Agricultural Research Station, IAR, Minjibir Kano State during 2019 wet season. The experiment was carried out to evaluate the growth, Yield and Yield Components of Groundnut varieties as influenced by phosphorus fertilization in Sudan Savannah of Nigeria. The treatments consisted of three Groundnut varieties (SAMNUT 23 and SAMNUT 24 and SAMNUT 25) and four phosphorus fertilizer rates (0kg P/ha, 20kg P/ha, 30kg P/ha and 40kg P/ha), laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The results indicated that SAMNUT 23 had performed significantly (P≤0.05)  better  than SAMNUT 24 and SAMNUT 25 in terms of plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of pods per plant, pod weight kg/plot, 100 seed weight and grain yield kg/ha at both locations while 40kg  P/ha significantly (P≤0.05)  outperformed 30kg  P/ha, 20kg  P/ha and 0kg  P/ha in terms of plant height, number of leaves, number of pods per plant, pod weight kg/plot, 100 seed weight and grain yield kg/ha at both locations . the study identified SAMNUT 23 and 40 kg P/ha to be the best option for increased groundnut production in the study area

A field experiment on okra cv. BARI Dherosh–1 comprising four sowing times starting from February to May (15th day of each month) at monthly interval and four spacings (60 × 30, 60 × 40, 60 × 50, and 60 × 60 cm) was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station (ARS), Raikhali, Rangamati Hill District to find out the most suitable sowing time and optimum plant spacing for the two consecutive years of 1997 and 1998. The highest seed yield (2.97 t/ha) was recorded from 15 April sowing closely followed by 15 March sowing (2.77 t/ha) whereas the best quality seed was obtained from 16 February (88.7% germination and 29.75 seed vigour index) and 15 March (83.7% germination and 28.80 seed vigour index) sowing. Plant spacing of 60 × 40 cm produced the highest seed yield of okra (2.86 t/ha) followed by 60 × 30 cm spacing (2.80 t/ha). The germination percentage and seed vigour index were unaffected due to different plant spacings. 15 April sowing accompanied with 60 × 30 cm spacing gave the highest seed yield (3.13 t/ha) closely followed by 60 × 30 cm spacing with the same sowing time (3.06 t/ha). <div><p><em>Field experiment was conducted at  Agricultural Research Station, Utukur,Kadapa of Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University to study the performance of rainfed castor  hybrid PCH 111 under varied levels of nitrogen with different planting patterns during kharif seasons of  2012 and 2013.The study was laid out in a split plot design with three replications comprising of  three planting patterns, viz.,  90 cm x 30 cm (P<sub>1</sub>), 90 cm x 45 cm (P<sub>2</sub>), 90 cm x 60 cm (P<sub>3</sub>)  and three nitrogen levels viz., 60 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> (N<sub>1</sub>), 90 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> (N<sub>2</sub>) , and 120 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> (N<sub>3</sub>). Number of spikes per plant and number of capsules per spike (58.84, 69.07 in 2012 and 2013 respectively) were more when castor was planted at 90 cm x 45 cm.  Hundred seed weight and seed yield were not significantly influenced by planting geometry. Application of 120 kg N ha<sup>-1</sup> recorded higher number of spikes per plant and capsules per spike but it was on par with 90 kg N ha<sup>-1</sup>. Seed yield was higher with application of 120 kg N ha<sup>-1</sup>  in both the years but it was on par with 90 kg N  ha<sup>-1</sup>.Comparatively higher seed yield was recorded during 2013 due to the receipt of high rainfall.</em></p></div>

Field experiments were carried out during 2004-2006 at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute Farm in Grey Terrace Soils, Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ 28), Joydebpur, Gazipur, Bangladesh to determine the effects of harvesting time on yield and yield attributes of chickpea. Chickpea seeds of three varieties viz., BARI Chola-5, BARI Chola-6, and BARI Chola-8 were collected at three times viz., i) when the pods were yellowish with a few yellow greens (H1 stage), ii) when most of the pods were light brown with a few yellow (H2 stage), and iii) when all the pods were completely brown and dry (H3 stage). All the seeds were stored in earthen pot until conducting the field study. Significant variation was not observed in three varieties of chickpea for most of the parameters studied. The highest pods/plant, seeds/pod, and seed yield were observed in BARI Chola-5 and the lowest in BARI Chola-8. Seeds collected at the stage when most of the pods were light brown with a few yellow (H2 stage) recorded the highest pods/plant, seeds/pod, 1000-seed weight and seed yield. The present study was carried out at Qlyasan locations, in Kurdistan Region-Iraq, Agricultural Research Station, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences-University of Sulaimani, according to half diallel mating system using seven pea cultivars (1-Avolla, 2-Americana, 3-Jeza, 4-Joneor, 5-Pack land, 6-Arvena and 7-Samara) with 21 F4 crosses. The genotypes were planted in a completely randomized block design with three replications. Highly significant mean squares due to genotypes were recorded indicating the presence of sufficient variability among genotypes for all traits. The mean squares due to gca and sca were significant for all the studied traits. The highest positive heterosis values estimated as the F4s deviation from mid parental values recorded by the cross 2×6 and 4×5 for almost all traits. Maximum positive gca effect values for seed weight plant-1, biological yield plant-1 and pods number plant-1 were recorded by parent 4, while parent 2 showed the best value for some components. The cross 4×5 was the best sca combiner for seed weight plant-1 and some its components including pods number plant-1, pod weight plant-1 and seed number pod-1. The type of gene action as controlled the inheritance of all characters was over dominance except 100-seed weight. Heritability in broad sense was found to be high for all treats except seed number pod-1 which was moderate, while at narrow sense it was high for average pod weight, pod length, seed weight pod-1 and 100-seed weight.

The study of the effect of three well known mutagens, ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS), methyl methane sulphonate (MMS) and gamma rays (GR) on the yield contributing traits of the urdbean variety TPU-4 were carried out in the M3 generation. Effect of selected mutagenic treatments/doses of EMS (0.02, 0.03 and 0.04 M), MMS (0.0025, 0.05 and 0.01 M) and (GR) (30, 40 and 50 KR) on different yield contributing traits like plant height, plant spread, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, seed yield per plant and 100 seed weight were analyzed in the M3 populations of the variety TPU-4. Seeds of M2 plants and control were harvested separately and sown to raise M3 population.. Genetic variabilty in the mutagen administered M3 progeny of the urdbean variety TPU-4 was analyzed by employing statistical methods. Data on mean values and shift in the mean of seven quantitative traits was evaluated on individual plant basis. The experimental findings revealed that concentrations / dose of the all these mutagens showed inhibitory effect on plant height, number of pods per plant, pod length and number of seeds per pod. Lower concentrations of mutagens exerted a promotory effect on plant spread, 100 seed weight and seed yield per plant while higher concentrations of these mutagens inhibited them to different extent.
