Evaluation of chickpea varieties treated with bio inoculants for yield performance, disease resistance and adaptability to climatic conditions of Gariyaband District in Chhattisgarh

A field experiment was carried out at KVK farm in Gariyaband District of Chhattisgarh State during the rabi season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 to study the efficacy of microbial inoculation with Rhizobium and Trichoderma on plant growth parameters, yield and disease resistance of 6 varieties of chickpea. Soil application with Trichoderma enriched farmyard manure in different plots was done one week before sowing and seed dressing with Rhizobium was done individually at the time of sowing. Among the chickpea varieties, JG 74 performed better in respect of nodule number., yield attributes and yield. Among the inoculants, dual application of Rhizobium + Trichoderma was found most effective in terms of improving germination, shoot length, nodule number. and also showed its positive effect in enhancement of all the yield attributing parameters (number.of pods,100 - seed weight) and yield. Study showed that inoculation with Rhizobium and soil application of Trichoderma enriched FYM gave an additive effect to seed dressing in reducing disease resistance thus enhancing crop yield.

Abstract Chitosan is a natural heterogeneous polymer, non-toxic and find many potential applications in agriculture. The search of a biopolymer to replace the synthetic agrochemicals, the effects of foliar application of chitosan solution on agronomic performance under field experiments have been investigated in two consecutive harvests (2014/2015 and 2015) of soybean and maize. Two chitosan concentrations (0.5 and 1%) were sprayed four times during the culture development and the evaluation was based on morphological characteristics, growth and yield components. Seeds were collected to determine the content of macro- and micronutrients. Results revealed that most of the morphological and growth parameters (plant height, leaf number per plant) and yield attributes were not increased with the chitosan treatment in soybean and maize. The soybean treated with foliar application of chitosan 0.5% increased the accumulation of nitrogen by 9.14% when compared with the water treatment, but the effect was not consistent in both seasons and cultivars. The values of the other nutrients did not change the content. Maize plants treated with chitosan (0.5% or 1%) significantly decreased the boron concentration by 66.7% in the grains analyzed and may have influenced the plant development (height) without altering the other agronomic parameters. Therefore, whereas the climatic conditions in these two seasons were stable and biotic or abiotic stresses were not observed, foliar application of chitosan solution did not present differences that could establish a pattern of behavior in field experiments conducted by two harvests.

A field experiment was carried out during therabiseason of 2004-05 to find out the effect ofRhizobiumand phosphate solubilizing bacterial (PSB) inoculants on symbiotic traits, nodule leghemoglobin, and yield of five elite genotypes of chickpea. Among the chickpea genotypes, IG-593 performed better in respect of symbiotic parameters including nodule number, nodule fresh weight, nodule dry weight, shoot dry weight, yield attributes and yield. Leghemoglobin content (2.55 mg g−1of fresh nodule) was also higher under IG-593. Among microbial inoculants, theRhizobium+ PSB was found most effective in terms of nodule number (27.66 nodules plant−1), nodule fresh weight (144.90 mg plant−1), nodule dry weight (74.30 mg plant−1), shoot dry weight (11.76 g plant−1), and leghemoglobin content (2.29 mg g−1of fresh nodule) and also showed its positive effect in enhancing all the yield attributing parameters, grain and straw yields.

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2017 at ZARS, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru to study the influence of different levels of Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and Jeevamrutha on growth and yield of Sunflower in red sandy loam soil. There were nine treatment combinations laid out in factorial randomized complete block design, which were replicated thrice. The experimental results revealed that, the application of FYM at 150 per cent nitrogen equivalent and jeevamrutha at 1500 L ha-1significantly influenced growth parameters like plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, leaf area index and total dry matter production. The interaction effect of FYM and jeevamrutha was significant in enhancing the seed yield of sunflower due to improvement in yield attributes like head diameter, number of seeds per head, hundred seed weight and seed yield per plant.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most versatile crop grown throughout the tropical as well as temperate regions of the world. On the other hand, the lathyrus or grass pea or chickling pea is also called ‘khesari’ and is a very hardy crop that thrives well under adverse climatic conditions. It can fix biological nitrogen in their roots through symbiotic relationship with Rhizobium leguminoseram. The field experiment was conducted on seed priming of hybrid maize and lathyrus at Central Research Farm, BCKV, Nadia under new alluvial zone of West Bengal, India in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications during kharif season of 2016 and 2017 and rabi season of 2016-17 and 2017-18. Experimental results reveal that seed priming methods significantly influenced the germination, growth parameters, yield attributes and yield of hybrid maize-lathyrus grown in sequence under rainfed situation. Seed priming with ZnSO4 @ 0.5% for 12 hours recorded the highest number of grains per cob (319.9) and highest plant height (262.10 cm) at harvest of hybrid maize. Grain yield and stover yield of hybrid maize showed positive and highly significant (P = 0.01) with each other (r = 0.945). The maximum number of pods per plant (50.28) was observed in seed priming with ZnSO4 @ 0.5% for 12 hours and was statistically at par with seed priming with KNO3 @ 0.5% for 12 hours (48.33) in case of lathyrus. Number of pods/ plants showed positive and highly significant (P = 0.01) correlation with grain yield (r = 0.986) of lathyrus. On the basis of pooled values of 2 years of experimentation, seed priming with ZnSO4 @ 0.5% for 12 hours could be recommended due to higher yield (7.94 t ha-1 of kharif hybrid maize and 1682 kg ha-1 of lathyrus) and higher net return (Rs.69,904/-ha-1 for maize, Rs.40,327/- ha-1 for lathyrus) as well as highest B:C ratio (2.74 of kharif hybrid maize and 2.94 of lathyrus) for maize-lathyrus in sequence under rainfed situation.

Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern) cultivation is suggested for regions with short seasons and low rainfall. Although there have been many studies conducted on agronomic production of mustard in Iran, the information regarding the interactive impact of cropping seasons and nitrogen fertiliser on growth characteristics and yield quality of mustard plant is still insufficient and requires further investigation. This study focused on the possible implications of different cropping seasons and different nitrogen levels on selected agronomic traits in mustard. In this experiment, five different doses of nitrogen and two sowing periods were used to assess for their combined effects on the growth parameters, seed yield and agronomic characteristics of mustard in the semi-arid climatic conditions of Takestan. The results revealed that cultivation seasons and nitrogen rates had a significant effect on plant height, biomass yield, number of siliques per plant, seed oil content and seed yield.

A field experiment was conducted during the summer, 2014 at College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala to evaluate the influence of irrigation levels, nitrogen stress and method of application of fertilizers on growth and yield of yard long bean. The experiment consisted of four levels of irrigation, two levels of nitrogen and two methods of application. The results indicated that daily irrigation at 10 mm depth and recommended dose of nitrogen (30 kg ha-1) recorded superior values for growth parameters viz., functional leaves per plant and leaf area index The major yield attributes like number of pods per plant and pod yield per plant and total pod yield were not influenced by levels of irrigation and nitrogen indicating that irrigation once in three days at 20 mm depth and nitrogen level of 22.5 kg ha-1 is sufficient for yard long bean. Soil and foliar application of nitrogen and potassium recorded superior growth characters, however, the yield was superior when the recommended dose of nutrients were supplied as soil application. Increasing irrigation interval to three days and imparting N stress did not result in any reduction in gross income and net income while, a higher benefit: cost ratio was noted in irrigation at wider intervals. Soil application of nutrients recorded higher gross income, net income and BCR compared to soil + foliar application.

The article presents the results of studies of indicators of reaching the age of the first calving of repair heifers of the Ukrainian red dairy breed under the conditions of use of the complex scheme of specific immunoprophylaxis and preparation “Multibacterin veterinary suspension”.The research was conducted in the conditions of the industrial complex for milk production of Dolinskoye LLC, Odessa region. The subjects of the study were groups-analogues of breeding heifers and the firstborn of the genotype.The assessment of repair young growth indicators was performed taking into account the following indicators: age of fertile insemination, months; age of first calving, months; milk production for 100 and 305 days of the first lactation, kg. For the functional evaluation of the digestive status of animals used to determine the transit of feed, in % and the assessment of acid-base status of faeces, pH unit. The following indicators were investigated in the serum of repair calves of mating age: total protein, g/l; albumin, g/l; globulin, g/l; glucose, mmol/l; urea, mmol/l; alkaline phosphatase, units/l and liver enzymes (ALT and AST, units/l).The economic efficiency of the results of the studies was calculated according to the indicator “average hope of one cow for 305 days of the first lactation, kg”. It was found that, due to the positive simultaneous effect of probiotic protection of the intestinal mucous membranes, repair heifers showed a higher growth and development rate and the first calving had 28.07 months, which is 2.31 months (8.45 %) earlier than in control (P < 0.001).The optimization of the technology of growing heifers for the use in the scheme of specific immunoprophylaxis of a probiotic drug – immunomodulator, which feed use had a prolonged positive effect not only on the growth parameters of young animals, but also on the increase of milk productivity per first lactation was experimentally proved.Calculations of cost-effectiveness of research results showed that the maximum increase in production (+ 9.10 %) was obtained from the firstborn of the experimental group born to cows mothers older than two lactations, where the scheme of specific prevention of associated diseases was carried out for repair heifers with previous normophilic laceration probiotic feed preparation.
