Test anxiety has long been an issue with students, parents and in schools on a global level. Many students are becoming overwhelmed with the increased demands placed on test preparation and test performance. Accountability measures have become a major priority, with school children enduring standardized testing annually from grades three through eight, and once more in high school.  This article will explore the many facets of test anxiety, what some schools are doing to try to reduce the anxiety and interventions counselors can use in their work with students. Keywords: Test anxiety; schools; children; anxiety

Largely led by parents of school-age children from around the country, the opt-out movement has gained momentum in resisting the overuse of standardized testing. The author, a teacher educator, former K-12 teacher, and parent, argues that the opt-out movement is raising awareness regarding standardized testing and opening the door toward policy changes.

Character education is a important thing to be instilled in school-age children given the many moral crises that have occurred among teenagers lately. In addition to, Indonesia lacks figures who can be used as a role model. That done because many public figures commited the crimes such as corruption, collusion, prostitution, and so on. Ibnu Miskawaih is one of the Islamic philosophers who touches on the concept of character education in his book tahzib al-akhlak wa tahir al-a'raf. By literature studies, this paper attempts to describe the concept of character education offered by Ibnu Maskawaih, namely The Golden(The Doctrin of The Mean). He stated that human character is built from four foundations, namely restraint, courage, wisdom, and justice. The character values developed by Ibnu Maskawaih can be used as a reference for the implementation of education in Indonesia. The expected values or characters are the formation of personality based on the norms of religion, culture and ethics of the Indonesian nation. So, the thought of Ibn Miskawaih is so suitable for using in morality crisis era.

The understanding of the Indonesian people about the importance of abundant raw materials is very lacking, this is evidenced by the many understandings that mocaf (cassava flour) is a raw material that cannot be processed properly and attractively so that it does not become a trend. Indonesia is one of the countries producing cassava although cassava is not a staple food. People need to know and understand the extent to which cassava can be processed into cassava flour, and cassava flour into bread. This study designs and builds applications that are educational to provide understanding to the community, especially for school-age children, considering that the main education is when compulsory children are elementary, middle and high school. In this study the Game Development Life Cyle (GDLC) method is used which consists of the stages of initiation, pre production, production, testing. In this study playtesting evaluation was carried out for 20 respondents with a play time of 10-15 minutes, covering aspects of concentration in addition to functional testing. Concentration aspects are valued at 4,15.

Due to the amount of pressure put on students to perform well and the growing amount of standardized testing in the American Education system, there has been a dramatic increase in the identification and study of test anxiety and its impact on performance. Treatments of test anxiety are typically preventative in nature and focus on what can be done outside of the classroom on the part of the individual to improve performance. However, it may be more impactful to manipulate the actual testing environment on a larger scale. This study, through a 4 week within-subjects model, sought to explore these environmental manipulations through the inclusion of sound in the environment. Throughout this study participants were subjected to testing in silence, preferred, nonpreferred, and ambient soundscapes. Test performance was significantly improved (by up to 22%) when participants were exposed to preferred music stimuli. However, performance is a complex phenomenon impacted by many different variables and more research should be done exploring how different cognitive factors impact performance.

Purpose Our goal is to present the relationships between working memory (WM) and auditory processing abilities in school-age children. Review and Discussion We begin with an overview of auditory processing, the conceptualization of auditory processing disorder, and the assessment of auditory processing abilities in children. Next, we describe a model of WM and a model of auditory processing followed by their comparison. Evidence for the relationships between WM and auditory processing abilities in school-age children follows. Specifically, we present evidence for the association (or lack thereof) between WM/attention and auditory processing test performance. Clinical Implications In conclusion, we describe a new framework for understanding auditory processing abilities in children based on integrated evidence from cognitive science, hearing science, and language science. We also discuss clinical implications in children that could inform future research.

Despite the many benefits of regular breakfast consumption few parents and children consume this meal every day and research examining the determinants of breakfast consumption is limited. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine breakfast-related cognitions (i.e., beliefs, attitudes, facilitators, barriers) of parents and school-age children (ages 6–11 years) using the constructs of Social Cognitive Theory as a guide. Parents (n = 37) and children (n = 41) participated in focus group discussions held in community settings in 3 states (FL, NJ, WV). Data were qualitatively content analyzed to detect trends. Parents felt breakfast was important for numerous reasons. Parents expressed concern about the healthfulness of some traditional breakfast options, preferring breakfasts containing mostly fruits, vegetables, and protein and fewer carbohydrates. Parents identified lack of time as the greatest barrier to breakfast consumption. To overcome this barrier, they utilized grab-and-go foods, prepared breakfast ahead of time, and got up earlier. Utilizing the school breakfast program was another strategy mentioned, however some were concerned about the nutritional quality of this option. Children recognized the importance of breakfast and cited several benefits. The greatest barrier to breakfast identified by children was feeling rushed in the morning. To overcome barriers, children suggested having a morning routine, selecting or preparing breakfast foods ahead, and relying on parents to encourage breakfast consumption. The effectiveness of interventions aiming to improve breakfast intake may be improved by addressing parent and child breakfast-related cognitions and tailoring interventions to address their needs.

For a sample of 40 young educable retarded children, the correlation between QT IQs and SB-LM IQs was .61. Thus the Quick Test correlates moderately well with the Binet, even with a restricted range of test scores. The QT IQ was significantly higher than the Binet IQ but showed no significant sex differences in test performance. These findings suggest that as with the adult and adolescent retardate, the Quick Test can be useful in assessing functional language ability and screening intellectual levels of young school-age children.
