Harmonic analysis of the ensemble and singing pieces from Erdal Tugcular as an educational music composer

Considered as one of Turkish new generation composers, Erdal Tugcular is today’s one of the strongest representatives of the folklorism in our Polyphonic Contemporary Turkish Music based on the Turkish Five. Musical pieces of Tugcular which are frequently heard in various national and international concert programs are of value and significance with their educational function at various levels of music education.This study harmonically analyses the pieces composed for Ensembles and Singing by Erdal Tugcular who has produced compositions in various styles and forms. For this purpose, “Osmanım” folk song composed for Singing with piano accompaniment and the polyphonic “Road tunes” piece composed for Ensemble were selected as samples among the compositions of Tugcular for Ensemble and Singing. The musical works selected are studied in terms of harmonic patterns and rules used in polyphonic singing.It is believed that the results of the study will contribute in the vocalization-rendition quality of the pieces analyzed and the realization of their educational functions. Keywords: Erdal Tugcular, ensemble pieces, singing pieces, harmonic analysis.

The currently observed development of medical science results from the constant search for innovative solutions to improve the health and quality of life of patients. Particular attention is focused on the design of a new generation of materials with a high degree of biocompatibility and tolerance towards the immune system. In addition, apart from biotolerance, it is important to ensure appropriate mechanical and technological properties of materials intended for intra-body applications. Knowledge of the above parameters becomes the basis for considerations related to the possibilities of choosing the appropriate polymer materials. The researchers' interest, as evidenced by the number of available publications, is attracted by nanobiocomposites based on chitosan and carbon nanotubes, which, due to their properties, enable integration with the tissues of the human body. Nanosystems can be used in many areas of medicine. They constitute an excellent base for use as dressing materials, as they exhibit antimicrobial properties. In addition, they can be carriers of drugs and biological macromolecules and can be used in gene therapy, tissue engineering, and construction of biosensors. For this reason, potential application areas of chitosan-carbon nanotube nanocomposites in medical sciences are presented in this publication, considering the characteristics of the system components.

Cloud Gaming is a cutting-edge paradigm in the video game provision where the graphics rendering and logic are computed in the cloud. This allows a user’s thin client systems with much more limited capabilities to offer a comparable experience with traditional local and online gaming but using reduced hardware requirements. In contrast, this approach stresses the communication networks between the client and the cloud. In this context, it is necessary to know how to configure the network in order to provide service with the best quality. To that end, the present work defines a novel framework for Cloud Gaming performance evaluation. This system is implemented in a real testbed and evaluates the Cloud Gaming approach for different transport networks (Ethernet, WiFi, and LTE (Long Term Evolution)) and scenarios, automating the acquisition of the gaming metrics. From this, the impact on the overall gaming experience is analyzed identifying the main parameters involved in its performance. Hence, the future lines for Cloud Gaming QoE-based (Quality of Experience) optimization are established, this way being of configuration, a trendy paradigm in the new-generation networks, such as 4G and 5G (Fourth and Fifth Generation of Mobile Networks).

A new generation of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) creative tools are now at the disposal of musicians, professionals and amateurs alike. These new technical intermediaries allow the production of unprecedented forms of compositions, from generating new works by mimicking a style or by mixing a curated ensemble of musical works to letting an algorithm complete one’s own creation in unexpected directions or by letting an artist interact with the parameters of a neural network to explore fresh musical avenues. Unsurprisingly, this new spectrum of algorithmic compositions question both the nature and the degree of involvement of the creator in the musical work. As a consequence, the issue of authorship and, in particular, the assessment of the specific contribution of a (human) creator through the algorithmic pipeline may require special scrutiny when AI and ML tools are used to produce musical works.

Under new state-led governance models, a new generation of city entrepreneurs seeks to define work and living environments to meet their needs and aspirations in a collaborative way. In this field, international discourses are debating private investors as key players in urban development and the simultaneous withdrawal/absence of the state. This has led to more complex networks of participating actors and conflictive urban development patterns. Strategies are needed to understand the influence of commons-based space production. From the research project DFG-KOPRO-Int, the Authors aim to define learnings from urban development and housing projects, involved actors, processes and material quality of the projects.

В статье представлены результаты двухлетних исследований по изучению влияния внекорневых подкормок гуминовым препаратом нового поколения GSN-2004 HUMILIFEтм (ОСН-2004) на урожай и качество винограда столового сорта Мускат янтарный и технического сорта Каберне-Совиньон в условиях Южного берега Крыма. По результатам исследований 2017-2018 гг. установлено, что внекорневые подкормки изучаемым препаратом разработанной нормой 4 л/га, способствуют увеличению урожайности винограда сорта Мускат янтарный в среднем на 23,9%, при этом повышение урожайности составляет 2,7 т/га. Урожайность винограда сорта Каберне-Совиньон увеличивается на 26,5%, при этом повышение урожайности составляет 2,2 т/га. Подтверждено положительное влияние внекорневых подкормок на показатели качества винограда сорта Мускат янтарный, которое выразилось в увеличении средней массы грозди у изучаемого сорта на 40,3%, увеличении массовой концентрации сахаров в соке ягод на 5,4% и увеличении значений глюкоацидометрического показателя (ГАП) на 15,6%. Положительное влияние внекорневых подкормок на показатели качества винограда сорта Каберне-Совиньон выразилось в увеличении средней массы грозди на 23,0% и увеличении массовой концентрации сахаров в соке ягод на 7,1%.The paper summarizes findings of a two-year study on the impact of foliar fertilizing with a new generation humic preparation GSN-2004 HUMILIFEтм (ОСН-2004) on the harvest and quality of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ table grapes and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ wine grapes in the conditions of the southern coast of Crimea. The data of the 2017-2018 study established that foliar dressing with the preparation under study in the ratio of 4 l/ha increases the harvest of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ grapes on average by 23.9%, or by 2 t/ha. The yield of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes was increased by 26.5%, thus increasing the harvest by 2.2 t/ha. The positive impact of foliar dressing on quality indicators of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ grapes was confirmed. Thus, the average cluster weight increased by 40.3%, total sugars in the berry juice increased by 5.4 %, and gluco-acidometric index increased by 158.06 %. The study confirmed the positive effect of foliar dressing on quality characteristics of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes, as demonstrated by a 23% increase in the average cluster weight and a 7.1 % increase in the total sugars in the berry juice.

Abstract At present, the tissue paper manufacturing is mostly based on the dry crepe technology. During the last decade, the manufacturers have introduced new tissue machines concepts that increase the softness, bulk, and absorption capacity. Such machines produce a strong regular three-dimensional (3D) structure to the sheet before the Yankee cylinder. At present, the quality of the 3D structure is not evaluated, or it is evaluated only subjectively at the mill. This is mostly because of the difficulties to separate reliably the regular 3D pattern from other variations. This paper introduces a frequency analysis based method which separates the surface profile variances in tissue paper to the creping, to the regular 3D pattern and to the residual variation. The 3D surface profiles and their variances were determined online with the photometric stereo method. We show that the introduced analysis method evaluates the variance portions reliably and the results are consistent with the visual perception of the 3D surfaces. In one particular product, the regular 3D pattern explains 74 % of total surface variance; the creping explains 10 % and residual variations 16 %. Furthermore, the creping and residual variances are quite stable over time whereas the variance of the regular 3D pattern fluctuates significantly.

Serious Games (SGs) have been able to shape new opportunities for human training and empowerment, imparting knowledge or skills in an engaging and motivating way to a new generation of learners. Further, they can be used to improve the quality of both individual and collective experience. In particular, SGs can nurture positive emotions promote engagement, as well as enhance social integration and connectedness. An in-depth analysis of each of these aspects will be presented in the chapter, with the support of concrete examples and case-analysis. Eventually, a game design practice will be discussed. Knowledge and awareness of hedonic, eudaimonic and social principles improve user-centered design models can be both fundamental to enhance learning effectiveness and retention and to improve players' well-being, contributing to the development of sustainable communities of practices.
