Strategic agility is learning to make fast turns and being able to transform and renew the organization without losing momentum. Strategic agility can bring about organizations that can produce the right products and services at the right place at the right time at the right price and for the right customers. Manufacturing firms and indeed all organizations that are strategically agile can contribute immensely to the achievement of the millennium development goals by contributing to economic growth. This paper examined the impact of strategic agility on the perceived performance of some selected manufacturing firms in Awe, Oyo, Oyo State Nigeria. The study employed survey research using questionnaire to collect data from all categories of workers in the two selected manufacturing firms. Two hundred and ten subjects responded to the questionnaire. Five hypotheses were tested using multiple regression, t-test, correlation analysis and analysis of variance. The study indicated that strategic agility as measured by strategic sensitivity, collective commitment or leadership unity and resource fluidity can have a significant impact on the performance of manufacturing firms. Based on the findings, it was recommended that firms should be proactive rather than reactive in order to promptly and effectively deal with changes taking place in the complex business environment and also improve their performance.

This study analyzes the causal relationship between sustainable manufacturing practice (SMP) and environmental sustainability as well as determines the mediating effect of innovation performance (IP) on the relationship between SMP and environmental sustainability. Adaptation from the changing business environment, manufacturing firms are facing great challenge on producing more products with less resource consumption, pollution emitted and waste generated. Using structural equation modeling, the survey data collected from 150 Malaysian manufacturing firms has been analyzed in this study. The empirical results show that both types of SMP have a positive and significant impact on environmental sustainability with external SMP is greater than internal SMP. However, there is no significant evidence to prove IP as a mediator for SMP-environmental sustainability linkage. The findings of this paper have important implication in both theoretical and practical perspectives. While provide better understanding of the phenomena by simultaneously analyzing a series of dependence relationships among SMP, IP and environmental sustainability, these results could help managers to understand the types of practices that would improve their environmental performance.

This chapter examines the impact of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), a socio-economic framework for enabling sustainable human development in Nigeria, and how it incorporates the basic targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) into government policy at both the national and grassroots levels. The chapter draws on the results of a study that was conducted to assess the specific impacts of the NEEDS policy in the process of improving the condition of existence in Nigeria by promoting socio-economic inclusivity. It considers the achievements of the NEEDS, the impediments that have constrained its functioning, and the lessons that have been or could be learnt from related achievements and failures of past development policies in Nigeria. It also offers some recommendations to make the NEEDS more effective in addressing the challenges and threats posed by poverty and other social incongruence in Nigeria.

A concern in the elimination of discrimination against women with special treatment is recognized by the international community. This is manifested in the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW), which aims at achieving the equality and justice. The elimination of discrimination acts as the mainstreaming of women towards the gender equality. It is even formulated as a basic need for the promotion of the human rights in the millennium development goals. This article discusses maqāṣid asy-syarī'ah with the principle of substantive equality, the principle of non-discrimination in the fulfillment of basic freedoms and human rights, and the principle of state obligation that has the responsibility to ensure the realization of the right equality of men and women using the approach of al-maṣlaḥah.[Perhatian pada penghapusan diskriminasi terhadap perempuan dengan perlakuan khusus diakui oleh dunia Internasional. Hal ini diwujudkan dalam Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Againts Women (CEDAW) yang bertujuan untuk mencapai persamaan dan keadilan. Penghapusan diskriminasi tersebut berperan sebagai pengarusutamaan perempuan menuju kesetaraan gender. Bahkan hal ini dirumuskan sebagai kebutuhan dasar pemajuan hak asasi manusia dalam millenium development goals. Tulisan ini mendiskusikan maqāṣid asy-syarī'ah dengan prinsip kesetaraan substantif, prinsip non-diskriminasi dalam pemenuhan kebebasan-kebebasan dasar dan hak asasi manusia, serta prinsip kewajiban negara yang memiliki tanggungjawab untuk memastikan terwujudnya persamaan hak laki-laki dan perempuan, dengan menggunakan pendekatan al-maṣlaḥah.]

This paper sheds light on a grand new park that has been inaugurated in Cairo on March 25'", 2005. The park is just one element of a far-reaching urban renewal scheme which seeks to restore a slum of Islamic Cairo where many cultural assets and monuments exist. The ambitious project, which has galvanized the nation, has drawn on the resources of international, national and local agencies in addition to grassroots organizations. Upon completion, the integrated development project is envisaged to rehabilitate many dwellings, monuments and urban spaces, in addition to creating employment, drawing droves of tourists and improving the quality of life in its vicinity. Thus, the impact of the project will most certainly fulfill some of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set forth by the UN at the tum of the century.

As the United Nations Millennium Development Goals initiative comes to a close, it is important to examine what has been effective in combating disparities in developing nations. In this paper I explore the impact midwives have on improving maternal and child health in Bangladesh by focusing on how the United Nations Millennium Development Goals initiative has helped to change societal views on women and birth as midwives become more integrated into improving maternal and child health. It is a quantitative and qualitative approach analyzing the statistics of implementing midwives as these impact cost-effectiveness and change in mortality rates in addition to social changes that have occurred in the culture towards maternal and child health. The paper further analyzes programs implemented by countries such as India and Sri Lanka comparatively. Data have been collected from published United Nations and governmental reports, media, and research articles. The paper concludes that the implementation of midwives has provided a cost-effective method of reducing maternal and child health in Bangladesh, and will be increasingly efficient as governmental programs continue to improve various aspects and laws of the country. It is important to analyze what is working in order to further improve maternal and child health on both a regional and global level. The use of midwives can provide a fundamental framework in communities that can aid in reducing health disparities as well as all improve all facets of reproductive wellness, providing the support needed at all stages to improve maternal and child health.

The development of information technology in the era of globalization makes it easier for people to carry out their daily activities, apart from socializing, it can also be a channel for work. Behind the simplicity coveted by technological developments opens up loopholes related to personal data that is easily misused. Indonesia does not yet have specific laws governing the protection of personal data as a whole. So that the author will examine the urgency of the draft personal data law in Indonesia, personal data protection schemes, to the impact of the implementation of the personal data protection bill. This study uses a normative juridical research method. The results of the study point to a privacy rights protection scheme in which everyone has the right to publish personal data or the right not to publish personal data to the public. The weakness of personal data protection regulations in Indonesia that have not been specifically regulated increases the potential for crimes against the right to privacy, but the drafting of the Personal Data Protection Bill brings fresh air not only to the public but to the government sector to the international business environment.
