This paper focuses on applying a strategy through a didactic guide called “Hands On” with tales, games, and vocabulary to develop the reading comprehension of English Language students of sixth level class “E” of the Language Center at Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo (UNACH), Ecuador. The research type was transversal, quasi-experimental, descriptive, and correlational. Due to observation and a checklist, it was possible to evaluate it before and after applying the strategy by means of the application of activities planned in the English subject syllabus. For this, it was necessary to take into account a sample of 30 students, identify the causes of the lack of motivation on them in order to develop the English language reading comprehension, and analyze the intellectual capacities of the group and the English Language teaching-learning methods. The data collected were tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted to be finally put under a statistical test in order to check the hypothesis. Therefore, it was concluded that the application of tales, games, and vocabulary contained in the guide influences the development of the English Language reading comprehension in a positive way.

Considering the urgency of integrating technologies in the contemporary classrooms, the aim of the presented study has been shaped to outline the impact of inquiry-based English language teaching through digital applications on primary learners’ reading comprehension and autonomy development during a pandemic outbreak of COVID-19. The research context has been designed in a quantitative manner to analyze experiment results and compare control and treatment group learners’ reading comprehension and academic achievement levels as well as to measure primary schoolchildren’s level of autonomy before and after the treatment. The subjects’ autonomy level, curiosity and interest in reading through digital applications before and after the experiment have been evaluated through pre and post-experimental questionnaires. Learning processes of two experimental and two control groups were compared to create four research contexts for the study. Discrepancy between inquiry-based teaching through a digital library and a traditional way of teaching reading has been emphasized in the study results. The obtained data has been analyzed using SPSS to compare the academic performance results. The study revealed that inquiry-based English language teaching through digital applications highly enhanced the primary learners’ academic performance in reading and increased their motivation level to study independently.

The purpose of the current research was the implementation of didactic audiovisual and communicative resources through a virtual classroom for the teaching-learning of English language, aimed to the first level students Languages School at Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo due to the lack of didactic material helping in the development of activities and tasks into the classroom. This fact impedes teachers and students reaching a higher level in the English Language teaching-learning process, this situation made necessary the implementation of resources adaptive to the pedagogical context and planned through a content manager or virtual classroom. The current research is quasi experimental, bibliographic, documental and descriptive which was applied to a sample where it was necessary to consider an initial knowledge diagnose before applying the communicative and audiovisual resources, then it was necessary to carry out an evaluation at the end of it. It was also necessary to use a set of activities based on communicative and audiovisual resources framed within the micro curriculum guidelines with schedules and contents that were evaluated through questionnaires and a checklist. The instruments for collecting information allowed obtaining data in both pre-test and post-test. These qualifications were compared through a statistical test that allowed concluding that the use of the mentioned resources improved the English language teaching, at the same time it was possible to recommend its use within the curriculum for the First Level of the Languages Major.

Recently curriculum in elementary school has posed the English subject as an extracurricular subject. However, the meeting is done once in a week during effective learning hours. It challenges the English teacher to formulate English learning activities. This study is aimed to describe the teaching-learning activities, including the English teacher’s strategy, material, and media. An English teacher and 29 students of 4A were chosen as the subjects. Mix methods; observation, interviews, and questionnaires were chosen to collect data. The results of observation indicate that the English teacher has the ability in explaining, managing, communicating and evaluating the students. On the contrary, negative responses towards the media used, the attitude, and the benefit of the media were also shown by students’ responses. Mainly, they thought that some of what they get did not match with their expectations. Some changes to create effective English teacher strategy and students’ participation are discussed.

The purpose of the current research was to strength the production of non-literary written dialogues by using idiomatic expressions in the English- Language teaching-learning process, applied to second level students, class B in the Language Center at Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo from October 2016 to March 2017. It has been evidenced that the syllabus of the Language Center does not consider the use of idiomatic expressions, so the students acquire neither lexicography nor appropriate vocabulary. This was a correlational, quasi experimental, field trip and documentary research applied to two heterogeneous groups; a control group and an experimental group. The control group developed the traditional contents planned in the institutional syllabus, while the experimental group developed a set of activities as a methodological strategy; a booklet was also designed for being used as a guide by the teachers. Both groups were evaluated through a rubric in two stages: the pre-test and post-test obtaining data to be tabulated, analyzed, interpreted and then compared in order to prove the hypothesis. It was determined that the use of idiomatic expressions strengthens the production of non-literary written dialogues, so it is recommended to apply them in the English language teaching-learning process.

The following investigation's objective was to establish that virtual platforms are considered as didactic support for good teaching practices in English language teaching. The research is quasi-experimental of the transversal type that makes a bibliographic, statistical and descriptive analysis. It considered two groups control and experimental; which were represented by 94 students who entered the first level of the Language Center of the Escuela Superior Politecnica de Chimborazo. The members of each group were evaluated before and after developing the academic activities, through a set of activities established in an evaluation rubric, which were validated by academic experts in the English area. The experimental group used a virtual platform; while the experimental group applied the traditional processes (without virtual platform). Both groups developed the contents of a micro curricular plan with an evaluation rubric. Through the scientific and hypothetical method, the evaluations obtained in a partial and final manner were compared; determining that, the academic performance of the experimental group improved with respect to the traditional one, concluding that the use of the virtual platforms it is a good teaching practice for the teaching of the English language.

Reading is one of the important skills that the students have to master. However, many students have difficulties in comprehending the reading text. To solve this condition, the researcher used schema activation strategy to help students understand reading comprehension. The purpose of this research was to investigate whether the use of schema activation strategy is effective or not in teaching reading comprehension at the second-grade students of MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid in academic year 2017/2018. This study was quasi-experimental design using two classes were VIII B class was taken as an experimental class, and VII-A was taken as control class. The population of this research involved 60 students from the second grade in MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid Batu Simpang. By using purposive sampling, the researcher took the students as a sample. In collecting the data, this study used pre-test, treatment, and post-test as the data collection procedure then followed by analyzing the data by using the t-test formula. Then the result of statistical analysis of t-test in this research was 2.85. It was higher than critical values for t- table in the degree of freedom (df) of 58 is 2.021(0.05%) and 2.704(0.01%). The researcher concludes that mean score before and after teaching by using schema activation strategy has a difference. It means the alternative hypothesis (ha) was accepted. The use of schema activation strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the second-grade students of MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid Batu Rimpang is effective.

The work with a didactic sequence of recipes in English as an additional language in a public schoolAbstract In a sociodiscursive interactionist perspective, we advocate that, to achieve its goals, the work with languages in public regular schools can be planned in didactic sequences towards genres. Such units aim at the development of language capacities (DOLZ; PASQUIER; BRONCKART, 1993). Based on these principles, didactic sequences were employed with students of a public school in Joinville, during a school year, with the objective of contributing to their effective participation in a pen pal Project. Among the genres handled, cooking recipeswere taken as scope of this paper, which aims at describing the material planned and analyze the productions of one student in order to illustrate the opportunities of language capacities development enabled by a work of thisnature. Keywords: Sociodiscursive Interacionism; genre cooking recipe; didactic sequences; English language teaching/learning; language capacities development.

ABSTRACT GIVING COLLAGENT SUPPLEMENTS ON ELASTICITYAND MENOPAUSE WOMEN'S SKIN COLOR Background: Physical changes that are generally more visible when a person reaches menopause are changes in skin elasticity and skin color. Reduced water and oil content in the skin will result in reduced skin elasticity resulting in fine lines and wrinkles on the skin and factors that cause skin discoloration are the use of drugs, use of unsafe cosmetics or absorption of ultraviolet (UV) rays. that comes from sunlight. This is caused by reduced collagen production by cells. Due to the reduced amount of collagen, there will also be a reduction in the amount of reduced glycosaminoglycans which then results in reduced skin turgor.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of collagen consumption on skin elasticity and skin color in menopausal women in Cikande, Serang District, Banten Province. Methods: This study used quantitative descriptive statistics with a Quasi-Experimental research design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach, which is a quasi-experiment where a group is measured and observed before and after the treatment (treatement). The sample of this research was 20 menopausal women in July in Cikande Village, Serang Regency, Banten Province. Results: Based on the results of the Paired Samples statistical test before and after collagen consumption on skin elasticity, a P value of 0.0118 was obtained from the significance value α => 0.05, this indicates that there is no effect between collagen consumption on skin elasticity. Based on the results of the Paired Samples statistical test before and after collagen consumption on skin color, the P value was obtained of 0.603 from the significance value α => 0.05, this indicates that there is no effect between collagen consumption on skin color. Conclusion: There is no effect of collagen consumption on skin elasticity and skin color in menopausal women in Cikande Village, Serang Regency, Banten Province. Suggestion:It is hoped that further researchers can carry out further research on the effect of collagen consumption on skin elasticity and skin color and for future researchers to be able to continue this research, as well as become a reference in conducting further research and can be developed again, especially on variables that have not been studied.
