Alcohol is a substance commonly used by adolescents. Due to the relevant role alcohol expectancies have for understanding adolescent use behavior, valid and reliable instruments need to be designed to evaluate these beliefs. The purpose of this study was to validate the Spanish version of the Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire-Adolescent, Brief (AEQ-AB). The sample was comprised of 315 adolescents aged 14 to 18 years who filled in an ad hoc questionnaire on demographic data the Spanish version of the EQ and the (AEQ-AB). Factor analysis showed that the original seven-item model clustered in two factors (positive and negative), fit the Spanish sample correctly. The reliability and validity analysis showed adequate translation and adaptation of the AEQ-AB questionnaire in Spanish adolescents.

Background: The Food Craving Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (FAAQ) was developed to measure food craving acceptance, but has not yet been adapted to Spanish. The aim of this study was to validate the FAAQ to the Spanish population and to analyze its psychometric properties.Method: Two studies were conducted. In the first study, the sample consisted of 224 undergraduate students who participated in the comprehension of the Spanish version and the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The second sample consisted of 378 participants from a community sample who completed the refined version of the FAAQ and similar and dissimilar measures. Results: Study (1) The CFA was conducted, showing an inadequate fit of the model (CFI = 0.74, RMSEA = 0.18). Therefore, FAAQ was refined and it was administered to the community sample. Study (2) After an exploratory factor analysis, two factors were obtained as in the original FAAQ, Acceptance (30.92% variance explained) and Willingness (36.05%). The internal consistency was adequate for both subscales (ω = 0.88 and ω = 0.87, respectively). Correlation between the factors was r = 0.07, which provides evidence that Acceptance and Willingness are different constructs. Correlations of Acceptance with similar variables (r between −0.30 and −0.52) were stronger than the dissimilar measures (r between −0.26 and 0.24). This did not occur for the Willingness subscale, since correlations were low in all cases (r between −0.22 and 0.25).Conclusions: Spanish version of the FAAQ showed evidence of its reliability and validity, and may be a measure to provide a better understanding of how acceptance of thoughts and emotions concerning food and willingness impact eating management behaviors.

Few studies have measured auditory imagery in comparison to visual imagery. The aim of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of two Spanish versions of measures of imagery auditory: The Auditory Imagery Scale and the Auditory Imagery Questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis found that the Auditory Imagery Questionnaire had two factors, and the Auditory Imagery Scale had one factor. The correlations of both questionnaires with other measures of auditory imagery were significant. The results are discussed in light of future lines of research aimed at evaluating the measures of both Spanish versions.

A new scale for the evaluation of feelings of guilt is described. Two types of guilt feeling were of potential interest: ‘delusional’ guilt or shame (experienced in relation to one's actions), and ‘affective’ guilt (a more general feeling of unworthiness). Reliability and validity analyses for the first (15–item) version of the scale were performed in three separate and contrasting clinical samples. The second and final (seven-item) version was tested in another sample of major depressives and in normal controls. The HRSD was used as a measure of severity throughout. The BDI and Widlöcher psychomotor retardation scale were also used as external criteria for the seven-item scale. Exploratory factor analysis of this sample yielded two factors – ‘cognitive/attitudinal’ and ‘mood/feeling’ – of which only the first correlated with scores for psychomotor retardation. It is suggested that these two factors represent two forms of guilt, but that only the former is related to a putative dopaminergic disorder. Guilt scores and measures of severity were not correlated. It is suggested that feelings of guilt should be considered as a behavioural marker for a subtype of depression.

Background / Objective: The study establishes the psychometric properties of the Spanish adaptation of the abbreviated version of the Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI-SF) published by Addison et al. (2007). The test uses a two-axis model to classify coping strategies (commitment and avoidance) and objective categories of coping (problem-focused and emotion-focused). Method: 940 people participated (62.87% women; 37.12% men) aged between 18 and 66 years (x̄ = 33.2; dt = 12.01). An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were carried out, as well as Pearson's correlation and Cronbach's Alpha to examine the reliability and validity of the Spanish adaptation of the CSI-SF. Results: Internal consistency analysis revealed high reliability for all scales, and all adjustment indexes used to examine the CSI-SF Spanish version provided support for its use as an adequate measure of stress coping strategies. Discussion/Conclusions: The CSI-SF scale Spanish version is a test that provides a quick and efficient diagnosis of the coping strategies used in the face of stress in different settings.

The Present Study Examined The Factor Structure, reliability, and validity of the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R; Wong, Reker, & Gesser, 1994) using a sample of 403 hospital and hospice nurses. A principal-components factor analysis of the DAP-R indicated that the DAP-R may consist of six factors instead of the five originally reported by Wong et al. The first four factors reported by Wong et al., which correspond to the subscales that they labeled Fear of Death, Death Avoidance, Approach Acceptance, and Escape Acceptance, were replicated in the present study, and these subscales were found to have acceptable levels of internal consistency and to possess some degree of concurrent validity. However, the items which loaded on the fifth factor in Wong et al.‘s study (their “Neutral Acceptance” subscale) were split across two factors in the present study, suggesting that this subscale may not be measuring a unitary construct.

The aim of this methodological study was to translate, culturally adapt and assess the internal consistency and validity of the Spanish version of the "Spirituality Questionnaire". The sample comprised 204 young people between 18 and 25 years of age from two universities in Bogotá. Cronbach's Alpha was used for reliability, while groups of experts and young people were used for construct validity. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was used for construct validity. The reliability score of the total instrument was 0.88. The overall index of content validity corresponded to 0.90. Exploratory factor analysis showed that four factors explain 52.60% of the variance. The originally proposed theoretical model was confirmed and, in two dimensions, a different structure was proposed. In conclusion, the instrument "Spirituality Questionnaire" by Parsian and Dunning is reliable and valid in the Spanish version.

The Sport Socialization Inventory of Greendorfer and Lewko was translated into Spanish and administered to two samples of Costa Rican children, ages 9 to 12 yr. Concurrent and construct validities were examined. The correlation of Active Sport Involvement score with demographic data on number of sports participated in yielded an r of .51 for concurrent validity. Principal components factor analysis, using loadings of .40 and higher, verified that the structure of the Spanish version was similar to that of the English version. Both test-retest stability over 8 days and internal consistency reliability were .95 for the total inventory.

SummaryThis paper describes the development and the validation of a questionnaire assessing the opinions of the relatives of patients with schizophrenia on the causes and the social consequences of the disorder. The final version of the questionnaire includes 28 items, grouped in four sub-scales (social restrictions, social distance, utility of treatments, biopsychosocial causes of schizophrenia), whose intra-rater reliability ranges from 0.36 to 0.84. Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which tests the content validity of the sub-scales, ranges from 0.56 to 0.66. Factor analysis identifies two factors (opinions on social consequences and the utility of treatments, and the beliefs on the causes of schizophrenia), which account for the 73% of the total variance. This questionnaire may be particularly useful to assess relatives'beliefs about schizophrenia and to target psychosocial interventions in the families of patients with schizophrenia.
