<p class="Abstract">Place of research  in some of SMP Negeri in Tanjungpinang and Bintan. The population is all science teachers of SMP Negeri in Tanjungpinang and Bintan while the sample in this study consists of eight Junior High Schools located in Tanjungpinang and four Junior High Schools in Bintan. This study aims to determine the use of learning media by science teachers in Tanjungpinang and Bintan and constraints faced by teachers regarding the use of learning media. Sampling technique in this research is simple random sampling. While type of research is descriptive. Data collection was obtained through questionnaires, interviews and documentation. Questionnaire contains ten questions using a Guttman scale consisting of “yes” and “no” questions.Data collection is also done by interviewing teachers to find out the constraints found by teachers during the learning process takes place. Other data collection techniques are done by looking at the RPP created by teachers on the learning media used. The results obtained an average of 69.16% of teachers use learning media during the learning process took place. From the average results seen that not all teachers of IPA in SMP Negeri Tanjungpinang and Bintan use learning media during the learning-teaching process. While the expectations at this time in accordance with the demands of the curriculum that during the learning process should use learning media. The results from the questionnaires obtained data about the constraints found in the teacher's use or to use the learning media. The results obtained by analyzing the RPP turns out that teachers write the media used in each meeting, this is not in accordance with the fact of the average outcomes. There should be a policy from government and school to overcome these obstacles. Further research that I suggest is to know the creativity of teachers in making learning media.</p>

This study expects to discover the improvement of science teachers' comprehension of the STEM concept, the improvement of teachers' readiness in implementing it, and the relationship between the comprehension of STEM concepts and readiness in implementing it in learning science. The participants were 50 science teachers from a few junior high schools in Ciamis who joined the workshop and simulated natural science learning dependent on STEM concepts in the Galuh University in Ciamis, Indonesia. The method of study used descriptive utilizing instruments of questionnaires and interview guide. The data were investigated using descriptive statistics with SPSS version 25.0. In addition, data from interviews were analyzed qualitatively (as complementary data). The exploration results show an increase in understanding of the STEM concept of science teachers and an increase in teacher readiness to implement it in science learning. This increase in understanding of STEM concepts and readiness to implement them is strengthened by developing a plan for implementing STEM-based learning and observing STEM-based science learning simulation activities conducted by several workshop participants. In addition, there is also a high correlation between understanding the STEM concept and the teacher's readiness to implement it in science learning.

<p>The scientific approach is strongly suggested to be used in implementing “Curriculum of 2013” (K13) by Department of Education. This study aimed to identify whether integrated science learning was implemented in Junior High Schools in the Semarang Regency, Indonesia used a scientific approach, how it was implemented, and what problems that emerged in it. This research was conducted in 13 Junior High Schools in Semarang Regency, Central Java Province that implemented K13 during the odd semester in 2016/2017 school year by interviewing the science teachers in each school to determine how scientific approach was implemented in their schools. Based on the interview results analyzed using qualitative description methods, K13 was implemented, teachers used a scientific approach to teach science subject in their classes, and they integrated science materials in the curriculum. However, not all of the science materials were able to be integrated and taught using scientific approach because the teachers’ educational background is not from science education. Furthermore, the availability of the teachers and students books, the laboratory facilities, and funds were very limited. Many solutions such as using various learning models were done, but they were not be able to maximize the learning even though the students were active and enthusiastic in learning. Therefore, the teachers really need real supports to enhance their learning using scientific approach.</p><p><br /><strong>Keywords</strong>: integrated science learning, scientific approach, curriculum of 2013, junior high school</p>

This study sought to examine whether teachers’ and educational administrators’ conceptions of inquiry promote or constrain inquiry-based science teaching in junior high schools. The study also explored any connections between participants’ conceptions of scientific inquiry, inquiry teaching, and inquiry learning. Multiple-case study involving semi-structured interviews was used to collect data from 18 integrated science teachers and 23 educational administrators from rural and urban areas in the Central Region of Ghana. Analysis of the qualitative data involved open coding and categorisation of participants’ responses. We found that all the teachers and educational administrators held either uninformed or partially informed conceptions of scientific inquiry and inquiry teaching and learning which, constrain inquiry-based science instruction in junior high schools. We also found that participants’ conceptions of scientific inquiry reflected in their conceptions of science teaching and learning. Again, we found that the uninformed conceptions of inquiry developed from participants’ lack of exposure and experiences with inquiry-based science instruction when they were students. We recommend regular explicit-reflective in-service trainings to promote teachers’ and educational administrators’ conceptions and teachers’ practice of inquiry-based science teaching. We also recommend reforms in preservice science education that emphasise the engagement of prospective teachers in collaborative explicit-reflective inquiry investigations and instructional practices.

The lesson plan is an important aspect that determines the success of learning in the classroom. Teachers must design learning that can relate the material being studied to the daily lives of students, for example, is through integrated local wisdom into science learning. The study aimed to develop a science learning set of local wisdom based on pressure materials in Junior High Schools. The research was research and development and used a 4D development model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate). The subjects were material experts, media experts, and science teachers of junior high school. The instrument was a validation sheet of the learning set. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively, and quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. This research produces a science learning set of local wisdom-based on pressure materials in junior high schools, consisting of syllabus, lesson plans, assessments, student worksheets, teaching materials, remedial and enrichment programs. The results of expert validation obtained a score of 89.60 with an excellent category. The results of the science teacher assessment were 92.38 with excellent category. In sum, the science learning set of local wisdom based on pressure material in junior high schools was valid and feasible to improve the understanding of science concepts.
