SUMMARYTwenty-five cultivars of soyabean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), differing in their origin, crop duration and seed size, were planted four times at bi-weekly intervals during the major rainy season at Ibadan, Nigeria and harvested at optimum maturity or two weeks later. Delayed harvest and intense rainfall during pod maturation were essential for selecting for resistance to field weathering, but 2 weeks' delay enabled susceptible and resistant cultivars to be identified. Percentage of infected seed had the highest correlation with potential germination at harvest (r=−0·869**) but may not be a suitable criterion for use in a screening programme. An alternative would be to screen cultivars for resistance to weathering on the basis of seed size and the proportion of smooth and clean seed, since these characters were highly correlated to potential germination (r=−0·562** and 0·632** respectively).

Heterosis occurred for the eight plant and seed characters studied. It was most frequent for yield of seed and height of plant. Mean squares for general combining ability (gca) and specific combining ability (sca) were significant (P =.01) for all characters. The estimated components for gca were greater than for sca for days to mature, weight per bushel, and percent oil in the seed; less for height and yield of seed; and essentially the same for days to bloom, diameter of head, and weight per 1000 seeds. The yield of seed and percent oil in the seed, for the highest ranking 100 synthetics that could be composed from the 10 lines, was predicted in F6 assuming 50 and 60% outcrossing between F2 and F6. Virtually all values exceeded the mean performance of four check samples of commercial hybrids. Many exceeded the highest rank check for oil content in the seed. Fourteen of the highest ranking 100 synthetics for yield and 30 for oil content consisted of two or three lines. It was concluded that synthetics can be superior to the present hybrids in heterosis and that desirable synthetics can be made from only a few lines.

Aquilaria malaccensis Lam. is a plant species producing fragrant woody material that contains some resin. The compounds can be used as medicine and perfume. Sesquiterpenoid, one group of compounds has been found being synthesized and subsequently extracted from callus and cell suspension culture of Aquilaria species. The aim of this research was to find a method of producing friable calli and cell suspension cultures from leaves or internodes of A. malaccensis in vitro by using suitable plant growth regulators; cell suspension that will suitably serve as material to produce sesquiterpenoid afterwards. Calli were established in almost all treatments of auxin-cytokinin on both leaves and internod explants. The treatment of 10 mg/L IBA induced the highest percentage of callus coverage from leaves with a rather compact structure. The combined treatment of 1–2 mg/L 2.4-D and 0.2–0.3 mg/L BA induced friable callus formation in more than 80% of cultures with 27–32% callus coverage percentage.  The use of 2,4-D induced a better formation of cell suspension than Picloram, with maximum volume up to 7 mL. Cell suspension culture with fine and homogenous aggregate could be established in the medium supplemented with 0.5 –1 mg/L 2,4-D.

Kawasan hutan yang dimanfaatkan terbagi atas 4 (empat) bagian yakni Susti, Bahamti, Nimahamti dan Tumti, dengan fokus kegiatan RHL seharusnya dilakukan di Susti dan Nimahamti yang berfungsi sebagai kawasan penyangga.ABSTRACTStudy of the Forest and Land Rehabilitation (FLR) in Manokwari Regency West Papua Province have been done based on local knowledge of Moile and the Meyah. This research aims to know the type of local plants, identification the local wisdom of a tribal society Moile and Tribe Meyah and formulate the FLR strategy based on the wisdom of the local community. The study is done in sub sai vilagge warmare district and lebau vilagge manokwari the northern district manokwari counties provincial west papua. Techniques used in the data is the approach combination method through observation field, interviews with snowball sampling techniques and the tracing documents. Descriptive method with an analysis Miles and Huberman used to identify local knowledge of Moile and Meyah. The results showed that the local-crop potentially used FLR in the district Manokwari intsia bijuga asltonia sp, pometia .sp, where its have good quality for use as timber carpentry having high as well as economic value and Pandanus conoideus, Aquilaria malaccensis, Manggifera indica, Nephelium lappaceum, Durio Zibethinus which fruit and the skin can be utilized to add community incomes. The community arfak in this area has a value and culture igya wisdom similar hanjob which means keeping the limit stood, forest areas being utilized divided over 4 (four) : susti, bahamti, nimahamti and tumti , where RHL activities should be undertaken in susti and nimahamti because it can function as buffer area
