This paper investigates the feasibility of a backend design for real-time, multiple-channel processing digital phased array system, particularly for high-performance embedded computing platforms constructed of using general purpose digital signal processors. Frist, we obtained the lab-scale backend performance benchmark from simulating beamforming, pulse compression, and Doppler filtering based on MicroTCA chassis using Serial RapidIO protocol in backplane communication. Next, a field-scale demonstrator of a multifunctional phased array radar is emulated by using the similar configuration. Interestingly, the performance of a barebone design is compared to that of emerging tools that systematically take advantage of parallelism and multicore capabilities, including Open Computing Language.

Abstractdspsr is a high-performance, open-source, object-oriented, digital signal processing software library and application suite for use in radio pulsar astronomy. Written primarily in C++, the library implements an extensive range of modular algorithms that can optionally exploit both multiple-core processors and general-purpose graphics processing units. After over a decade of research and development, dspsr is now stable and in widespread use in the community. This paper presents a detailed description of its functionality, justification of major design decisions, analysis of phase-coherent dispersion removal algorithms, and demonstration of performance on some contemporary microprocessor architectures.

Methods of increasing complexity are currently being proposed for ultrasound (US) echographic signal processing. Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) resources allowing massive exploitation of parallel computing are ideal candidates for these tasks. Many high-performance US instruments, including open scanners like ULA-OP 256, have an architecture based only on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and/or Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). This paper proposes the implementation of the embedded NVIDIA Jetson Xavier AGX module on board ULA-OP 256. The system architecture was revised to allow the introduction of a new Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) communication channel, while maintaining backward compatibility with all other embedded computing resources already on board. Moreover, the Input/Output (I/O) peripherals of the module make the ultrasound system independent, freeing the user from the need to use an external controlling PC.

In this work, a new real-time Simulation method is designed for nonlinear control techniques applied to power converters. We propose two different implementations: in the first one (Single Hardware in The Loop: SHIL), both model and control laws are inserted in the same Digital Signal Processor (DSP), and in the second approach (Double Hardware in The Loop: DHIL), the equations are loaded in different embedded systems. With this methodology, linear and nonlinear control techniques can be designed and compared in a quick and cheap real-time realization of the proposed systems, ideal for both students and engineers who are interested in learning and validating converters performance. The methodology can be applied to buck, boost, buck-boost, flyback, SEPIC and 3-phase AC-DC boost converters showing that the new and high performance embedded systems can evaluate distinct nonlinear controllers. The approach is done using matlab-simulink over commodity Texas Instruments Digital Signal Processors (TI-DSPs). The main purpose is to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed real-time implementations without using expensive HIL systems such as Opal-RT and Typhoon-HL.

Matched-field processing (MFP) localizes sources more accurately than plane-wave beamforming by employing full-wave acoustic propagation models for the cluttered ocean environment. The minimum variance distortionless response MFP (MVDR–MFP) algorithm incorporates the MVDR technique into the MFP algorithm to enhance beamforming performance. Such an adaptive MFP algorithm involves intensive computational and memory requirements due to its complex acoustic model and environmental adaptation. The real-time implementation of adaptive MFP algorithms for large surveillance areas presents a serious computational challenge where high-performance embedded computing and parallel processing may be required to meet real-time constraints. In this paper, three parallel algorithms based on domain decomposition techniques are presented for the MVDR–MFP algorithm on distributed array systems. The parallel performance factors in terms of execution times, communication times, parallel efficiencies, and memory capacities are examined on three potential distributed systems including two types of digital signal processor arrays and a cluster of personal computers. The performance results demonstrate that these parallel algorithms provide a feasible solution for real-time, scalable, and cost-effective adaptive beamforming on embedded, distributed array systems.

The  article  discusses  the  use  of  graphics  processing  units  for  solving  large  system  of  linear  algebraic  equations  (SLAE).  A heterogeneous multiprocessor computing platform produced by the NIIVK, whose architecture allows the integration of general‑ purpose microprocessor modules with graphics processor modules was used as an equipment for solving SLAEs. The description  of the SLAE solution program, developed on the basis of the CUBLAS CUDA software interface library, is given. A method is proposed for increasing the accuracy of calculations of linear systems based on the use of a modified Gauss method. It has been  established that the use of the modified Gauss method practically does not increase the program operation time with a significant  increase in the accuracy of calculations. It is concluded that the use of graphics processors for solving SLAEs allows processing  matrices of a larger size compared to the use of general‑purpose microprocessors.
