While current studies have focused on adoption and the relevant content of the app to become a decision support system, very few studies have focused on the farmer's intention and initial decision to adopt. Based on a survey of 394 smallholder farmers this study investigated Mexican farmers’ willingness to adopt an agricultural advice app. A Structural Equation Modelling approach, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was applied. To understand farmers’ adoption decision, extended constructs were studied (e.g. mastery-approach goals) along with farmers’ age and participation in an innovation hub. Results showed that the intention to adopt the app is predicted by how farmers believe that technical infrastructure exists and by the expectation of the farmers using the app to acquire new knowledge. The multi-group analysis revealed that performance expectancy is a relevant predictor of the intention to adopt, whereas the mastery-approach goal is relevant only for younger and farmers not connected to the innovation hub. The results may well be a baseline to research further suitable non-financial incentives for different farmers’ groups, then encourage initial adoption and enhance uptake. The findings are useful for practitioners and app developers designing digital decision support tools.

This study provides valuable insights about the innovation hubs’ role in the intention to adopt apps, offering precision agriculture advice in developing countries. The findings are useful for practitioners and app developers designing digital-decision support tools.

The purpose of this paper was to examine the intention to adopt mobile payments among male and female customers of generation Z by surveying 365 undergraduate students and applying the Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The Structural equation modeling analysis using the SmartPLS revealed that social influence was the most significant predictor of intention to adopt mobile payments among both males and females. The male is significantly influenced by the performance expectancy and effort expectancy whereas the females are significantly influenced by the effort expectancy and price value factors. For sustainable adoption among the males and females in generation Z, the managers should create differentiated value propositions by focusing on utilitarian benefits and simplicity of use for the males and females respectively.

Despite widespread adoption of crowdfunding for funding social donation projects, its adoption among start-up entrepreneurs is significantly low, in developing countries in particular. Research has been performed to investigate the crowdfunding adoption intention of start-up entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. This study aimed to identify the motivation behind the intentions of the entrepreneurs to adopt crowdfunding, using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model with extensions. Empirical data were collected from 317 respondents and analyzed using Partial Least Squares-based Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions and perceived trust mpact significantly ion the entrepreneurs’ behavioral intention to adopt crowdfunding. In contrast, trialability and perceived trust were not found to be significant determinants. However, trialability has a significant positive relation with use behavior or actual use, whereas no significant relationship has been identified between behavioral intention and use behavior.

Smartphone technology is rising rapidly around the world. It allows various companies including financial institution to improve services for their customers. Mobile wallet is a cashless payment system that is carried out with a mobile phone. Since 2010, The Central Bank of Indonesia has been encouraging the adoption of cashless payment system, including mobile wallet. Despite the efforts made, the use of cashless payment system in Indonesia is still low. This paper investigates the determinants of customers’ intention to adopt mobile wallet using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) Model. It offers theoretical contributions by extending UTAUT2 with social connectedness and culture. Empirical data from 139 Indonesian customers were used to test the proposed model using partial least square structural equation modeling. It was found that performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, price value, and habits significantly influence customers’ intention to adopt mobile wallet. This study also found that social connectedness significantly affects performance expectancy and effort expectancy. The findings of this study would also be beneficial for mobile wallet providers to develop effective strategies to increase the use of mobile wallet in Indonesia.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors, which drive teenagers’ behavioural intention to adopt wearable technologies and their behavioural intention to recommend others. Design/methodology/approach This study proposes a new adoption model combining two different models including the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and the theory of planned behaviour, which provided relevant contributions for understanding the adoption of wearable technologies. A structural equation modelling approach using analysis of a moment structures 23 software was used to analyse the data collected from 318 respondents. Findings Findings of this study reveals that performance expectancy (β = 0.28; t = 2.049), facilitating conditions (β = 0.28; t = 1.989), social influence (β = 0.23; t = 3.150) and attitude (β = 0.18; t = 3.246) have a statistically significant impact on behavioural intention. Additionally, behavioural intention (β = 0.15; t = 2.543) and attitude (β = 0.15; t = 3.261) have a statistically significant impact on intention to recommend others. However, effort expectancy, price value, hedonic motivation and habit did not have a significant influence on behavioural intention. Practical implications In this study, the understanding of the determinants contributing to teenagers’ behavioural intention to use wearable technologies and driving their intention to recommend others to adopt these devices will provide insights to practitioners and decision makers to customize the features of wearable devices to promote sustainable use of these technologies. Originality/value This study is among the first to investigate wearable technologies from behavioural perspectives especially on teenagers in Bangladesh. Hence, the findings of this study will help to comprehensively explain teenagers’ behavioural intention to adopt wearable technologies and their intention to recommend others.

Purpose-The paper aims at exploring the factors affecting intention to adopt and use mobile banking service apps in the generation Y customers’ by applying a revised unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model. Research Design/methodology-The proposed model was empirically tested using a well-structured questionnaire and was further analyzed using structural equation model (SEM). Findings –The results of SEM suggest that performance expectancy, efforts expectancy, social influence, trust and reliability, security and facilitating conditions have a significant effect on shaping customers’ attitude and intention to adopt and use mobile banking services. Research limitations/implications –Limitations were found in the selected sample, the study was limited to respondents from a single selected city, and respondents from other cities were not included. In addition, results from this study may not be generalized to the whole population of millennials . Practical implications –This research identifies the factors that affect the intention to adopt mobile banking among the Generation Z users in Visakhapatnam city. Banking institutions can use the findings to develop competitive marketing strategies and services not only to attract potential customer and but to retain existing users customer value Originality/value –The outcome of this study will provide a better insight into the factors influencing intention and adoption of mobile banking service among users in a developing country in India, where the concept of mobile banking quickly gaining momentum.

AbstractThe present study uses the modified Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 to examine the effect of factors such as performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), and hedonic motivation (HM) that may motivate operators and employees to adopt IVR-based technology into their training. Results of a multi-group analysis based on nationality, prior IVR experience, and/or length of work experience, to analyse the potential similarities and/or differences in perception and acceptance towards using IVR-based technology are also presented. The quantitative research data were gathered using an online questionnaire from 438 chemical operators and/or employees who either speak German, French, or English. Partial least squares structural equation modelling and multi-group analysis based on SmartPLS™ version 3 were used to carry out the path and multi-group analyses. The results show that the behavioural intention (BI) towards adoption of IVR was influenced by PE, EE, and HM for all abovementioned subpopulation. However, the relationship of SI to BI was not supported for respondents with prior IVR experience and for respondents coming from Western region. Although Henseler’s-based multi-group PLS analysis reveals that there was no significant difference between the group comparisons, it is still important to take into account these socio-demographic factors as there are definite group differences in terms of the ranking order of each construct for the IVR adoption intentions among each subpopulation. The implications and future directions were discussed.

External auditors face new challenges in keeping pace with technological development in the accounting profession, which is how to audits outputs of advanced electronic accounting systems. As a result, several electronic systems and applications have emerged to assist the external auditors in their tasks, which called Computer -Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs). The main objective of this study to examine the factors influencing of adoption of CAATs in the external audit process in Yemen, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was utilized as a theoretical basis in this study. A quantitative approach was carried out by a questionnaire completed by 312 participants. The results mainly showed that the behavioral intention to adopt CAATs is significantly and positively influenced by the performance expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions, but it was not influenced by the effort expectancy. Besides, this is the first study in Yemen about the adoption of CAATs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to extend the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology with psychological constructs, namely, perceived playfulness, mobile innovativeness in information technology and perceived expressiveness (PEX) to examine on the consumers’ intention to adopt mobile applications (m-apps) as another mean in purchasing tourism-related product and services via their mobile devices. The study also included gender as moderating variable. Design/methodology/approach Partial least square-structural equation modeling approach was adopted to test the research framework using 474 valid respondents. Findings The results demonstrated that only performance expectancy and PEX are non-significant with the intention to adopt. In addition, gender was found to have a moderating effect between social influence and intention. Practical implications The study has several useful implications for researchers, m-apps developers, travel-related organizations and even government agencies when rendering m-apps services and disseminating information to their potential consumers. Originality/value The study contributes to the growing literature on m-apps in tourism from a developing country’s perspectives.

PurposeThe current understanding of building information modelling (BIM) adoption often neglects the industry context in which BIM is deployed. This is particularly problematic when policymakers are planning to enact top-down policies to promote BIM adoption in public-funded construction. Therefore, the aim of this study is to establish the industry-level factors that constraint or enable actors' intention to adopt BIM.Design/methodology/approachUsing institutional theory with an emphasis on the cultural-cognitive elements, the authors aim to complement the understanding of BIM adoption by incorporating institutional elements into the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The cultural-cognitive elements were extracted from focus groups and interviews with architecture, construction and engineering (AEC) professionals in Peru. A modified UTAUT was empirically tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) with a dataset from 171 questionnaire responses.FindingsThe industry characteristics, standardisation, affordability and technology/methodology definition of BIM were found to be the cultural-cognitive elements having direct effects on individual reactions to BIM. These findings suggest that BIM adoption policies should focus on designing incentives schemes, training/educating professionals on BIM collaborative processes and developing/adapting applicable standards. However, a BIM adoption mandate would require policymakers to create collaborative procurement environments in tandem with information management and process standards.Practical implicationsFindings can be used by policymakers to significantly promote BIM adoption in contexts without a government mandate for public sector construction.Originality/valueThe study of institutional elements on BIM adoption is still limited. This study provides empirical evidence on how the cultural-cognitive elements of the industry context are associated with actors' intention to adopt BIM. Therefore, this study bridges industry and individual levels of analysis. Furthermore, this study enables policymakers to initiate actions that significantly encourage BIM adoption.
