This study is based on the presence of spirit (<em>ghirah</em>)<em> </em>to return to Islamic teachings among Muslim students in Riau after the 212. This study shows that: <em>First</em>, the <em>ulama</em> who has the same understanding with students is Habbib Rizieq Shihab. <em>Second</em>, the idea about <em>Khilafah Islamiyah </em>and the implementation of <em>syari’ah </em>or<em> </em>Islamis law is still dominant. <em>Third</em>, there is an idea that killing is a part of <em>jihad</em>. <em>Fourth</em><em>, </em>the consciousness about differences is still low. Based on this finding, the radical potential which is high among students is basically disquieting. Furthermore, the basis of this understanding is affected by the <em>dakwah</em> concept of some extra campus organizations and their ideological organization.

AbstractThis study focuses on how is religious thought of Muslim students in Public Colleges? Is it exclusive, inclusive, or liberal? And how far is the level of exclusivism, inclusivism or liberalism of their religious thoughts? The research findings showed that religious thoughts of Muslim students in Public Colleges tended to be exclusive and inclusive. The tendency of their religious thought was more strongly influenced by religious thoughts and activities at intra-campus organizations. The implication was religious guidance for Muslim students of Public Colleges, particularly those studying about Islamic Education, needed to consider the tendency of religious thought of Muslim students, especially from curriculum preparation aspects and religion learning models.

This paper explores the transnational trajectories of female Malaysian Muslim students through their commitment to piety-minded forms of Islam. In particular, it seeks to identify the reasons for their participation in piety movements and its importance to their lives. The ethnographic research, conducted over 8 months, involved 18 Malaysian female respondents who were studying and living in Manchester between 2016 and 2017. The findings show that the students’ involvement in piety movements was due to fictive kinship providing generous hospitality upon their arrival to the United Kingdom, pre-departure programs on preparation for studying abroad, family influence and sisterhood relationships. Participation in piety movements is said to help relieve stress and overcome loneliness, and is considered vital in guiding Muslim students to lead fulfilling and virtuous lives. The findings contribute significantly to transnational student mobility theories and the importance of sociality and religion in transnational migration.

This paper reviews and strengthens the data on cultural transfer by Arab Muslim students writing in English and adds the significant element of the cultural impact of Islam on such writing. This qualitative study examines the writing of 18 teacher trainees at an Arab language teacher training college in Israel. Results point to a strong cultural influence appearing in the students' writing. It is suggested that greater consideration should be given to the first and the target culture when designing the curricula for writing classes for Arab L1 students in English writing instruction.

Every year, thousands of Malaysian students are sent to study abroad by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) which causes several underestimated stress, especially those faced by the Muslims. This qualitative study aimed to explore the challenges of acculturation among Malaysian Muslim students studying abroad. The researchers adopted a phenomenological design approach to develop in-depth understanding of the topic. The six respondents in the study were former Malaysian students studying in Australia, the United States of America, South Korea, India, Jordan, and the United Kingdom. The respondents were interviewed, and the interview protocol guided the interview until the data reached saturation. The data obtained were analyzed in stages, starting with descriptive coding, topic coding, analytical coding, and themes identification. This process was done using Atlas. ti 8 software. The main findings highlight two research themes: the challenges to expose Islamic identity and practicing the Islamic lifestyle. Findings also suggest that Malaysian Muslim students should consider improving Islamic knowledge as it reflects the impressions of other religions on Muslims as a whole. This study’s findings are important for the student sponsorship and student welfare section of the university in providing an appropriate counselling program for international students dealing with acculturation issues. We also suggest that future research explore acculturation challenges to identify the holistic need of the multicultural counselling service.

The pandemic period causes all systems in life to change a lot, one of which is education. Online learning is a solution to the difficulty of offline learning in schools. This study examines academic stress during online learning among first-year Muslim students in Indonesia. This study's participants were 731 first-year Muslim students who had never done offline learning at the target campus. Data collection used the academic stress scale from Lin & Chen (2009) with seven stress sources. The results showed teachers' stress, stress results, stress tests, studying in groups stress, peer stress, time management stress, and self-inflicted stress were at moderate and high levels. Meanwhile, the highest percentage of academic stress factors was obtained from teachers' stress. We also present a detailed examination of demographic data by cross-tabulating and discussing these findings' theoretical and practical implications.
