Natural lighting is an important factor that affects the comfort of building users. Natural lighting in a room requires a window area of ​​at least 1/6 of the floor area. This study was conducted to obtain the distribution of Daylight Factor (DF) as a natural lighting factor during the day in the room, based on the shift in the position of the window on the wall. The distribution of lighting entering the depth of the room through window openings is a tool to compare the best window position in the spread of illumination with DF calculations based on Sky Component (SC). Shifting the window position will be analyzed by Standard Deviation (S) and Mean (μ) based on the DF distribution. Optimizations of the DF distribution on the window position shifts if it has the largest DF mean value and the smallest DF variant value. The results of the study in a simple room showed that the optimal DF distribution was at the window position in the middle and the mean value was 2.59%. The relationship of shifting window position and DF distribution can be useful for architects to determine the function of a room in architectural design.

This study focused on the reliability and validity of the stress questionnaire and the relationship of responses to types of work. This self-administered questionnaire was distributed to all 799 employees of a company. 792 responded. There are 21 items with yes-no responses for which the score was the sum of assigned weights. Types of work represented manager, technical manufacturer, clerk, manufacturer, and sales. From a principal axis factor analysis three factors were extracted for men and for women, respectively. There was a significant difference in mean score among five groups of workplace positions by Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of covariance ( p = .04). The mean value for manager was not significant but was relatively lower than those of the other positions, suggesting that being a manager was less stressful. Confirmation with the testing of an independent sample is also needed to validate the consistency of the association.

This study aims to determine the relationship of emotional intelligence with learning outcomes Biology X class students MIA MAN 3 Medan Year Learning 2017/2018. The population in this study is all students of class X MIA MAN 3 Medan consisting of 5 classes. Sample used 2 classes from 5 classes with total 81 students. To obtain the data of emotional intelligence used questionnaire that has been validated by a validator lecturer. While the results of biology learning taken from the value of daily student ulagan obtained from teachers of Biology study. The data obtained are searched for the mean value, standard deviation, and test the data requirements. Emotional intelligence of students has ± SD of 91.30 ± 9.26, while the student's biology learning outcome is 78.37 ± 8.73. From the results of statistical analysis known the relationship of emotional intelligence with the results of biology students have a linear regression equation and have a meaningful relationship, this we can see from the high correlation coefficient of 0.871 and the amount of emotional intelligence contribution to student biology learning results of equal 75.69%. This means that emotional intelligence has a positive relationship with learning outcomes Biology X class student MIA MAN 3 Medan Year Learning 2017/2018.Keywords: Emotional intelligence, learning outcomes.

ABSTRACT We investigate the relationship between the optical variability of galaxies and their distances from the centre of the Virgo cluster using Palomar Transient Factory data. We define the ratio between the standard deviation of the galaxy brightness and the mean value of the standard deviation as a measure of a galaxy’s optical variability. A sample of 814 Virgo galaxies with 230 263 observations shows a monotonically decreasing trend of optical variability with increasing clustercentric distance. The variability level inside the cluster is 3.2σ higher than the level outside. We fit the variability with a linear function and find that the data reject a distance-independent model. We examine 217 background galaxies for comparison and find no significant trend in galaxy variability. We assess the relation with Monte Carlo simulation by rebuilding the brightness of each galaxy. The simulation shows a monotonically decreasing relation for member galaxy variability and a distance-independent relation for background galaxies. Our result is consistent with the theory that the cold gas flowing inwards the cluster centre fuels AGN activity. This work is a new implementation of the method using optical variability to investigate the relation between galaxies evolution and their environment.

The relationship of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revised and the McGraw-Hill Basic Skills System was examined for 50 predominately black college freshmen and sophomores. Both Forms L and M of the PPVT-R correlated significantly (.34 to .58) with the Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary subtests of the McGraw-Hill system. Students scored about one standard deviation below the mean on both measures. Skills measured by the instruments appear different enough to preclude use of the PPVT-R as the first screening test.

AbstractDepth-from-focus methods can estimate the depth from a set of images taken with different focus settings. We recently proposed a method that uses the relationship of the ratio between the luminance value of a target pixel and the mean value of the neighboring pixels. This relationship has a Poisson distribution. Despite its good performance, the method requires a large amount of memory and computation time because it needs to store focus measurement values for each depth and each window radius on a pixel-wise basis, and filtering to compute the mean value, which is performed twice, makes the relationship among neighboring pixels too strong to parallelize the pixel-wise processing. In this paper, we propose an approximate calculation method that can give almost the same results with a single time filtering operation and enables pixel-wise parallelization. This pixel-wise processing does not require the aforementioned focus measure values to be stored, which reduces the amount of memory. Additionally, utilizing the pixel-wise processing, we propose a method of determining the process window size that can improve noise tolerance and in depth estimation in texture-less regions. Through experiments, we show that our new method can better estimate depth values in a much shorter time.

Purpose. To combine blood oxygenation level dependent magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-MRI), dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), and diffusion weighted MRI (DW-MRI) in differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions. Methods. Thirty-seven breast lesions (11 benign and 21 malignant lesions) pathologically proven were included in this retrospective preliminary study. Pharmaco-kinetic parameters including Ktrans, kep, ve, and vp were extracted by DCE-MRI; BOLD parameters were estimated by basal signal S0 and the relaxation rate R2*; and diffusion and perfusion parameters were derived by DW-MRI (pseudo-diffusion coefficient (Dp), perfusion fraction (fp), and tissue diffusivity (Dt)). The correlation coefficient, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U-test, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were calculated and area under the ROC curve (AUC) was obtained. Moreover, pattern recognition approaches (linear discrimination analysis and decision tree) with balancing technique and leave one out cross validation approach were considered. Results. R2* and D had a significant negative correlation (−0.57). The mean value, standard deviation, Skewness and Kurtosis values of R2* did not show a statistical significance between benign and malignant lesions (p > 0.05) confirmed by the ‘poor’ diagnostic value of ROC analysis. For DW-MRI derived parameters, the univariate analysis, standard deviation of D, Skewness and Kurtosis values of D* had a significant result to discriminate benign and malignant lesions and the best result at the univariate analysis in the discrimination of benign and malignant lesions was obtained by the Skewness of D* with an AUC of 82.9% (p-value = 0.02). Significant results for the mean value of Ktrans, mean value, standard deviation value and Skewness of kep, mean value, Skewness and Kurtosis of ve were obtained and the best AUC among DCE-MRI extracted parameters was reached by the mean value of kep and was equal to 80.0%. The best diagnostic performance in the discrimination of benign and malignant lesions was obtained at the multivariate analysis considering the DCE-MRI parameters alone with an AUC = 0.91 when the balancing technique was considered. Conclusions. Our results suggest that the combined use of DCE-MRI, DW-MRI and/or BOLD-MRI does not provide a dramatic improvement compared to the use of DCE-MRI features alone, in the classification of breast lesions. However, an interesting result was the negative correlation between R2* and D.

Purpose Important statistical variations are likely to appear in the propagation of surface plasmon polariton waves atop the surface of graphene sheets, degrading the expected performance of real-life THz applications. This paper aims to introduce an efficient numerical algorithm that is able to accurately and rapidly predict the influence of material-based uncertainties for diverse graphene configurations. Design/methodology/approach Initially, the surface conductivity of graphene is described at the far infrared spectrum and the uncertainties of its main parameters, namely, the chemical potential and the relaxation time, on the propagation properties of the surface waves are investigated, unveiling a considerable impact. Furthermore, the demanding two-dimensional material is numerically modeled as a surface boundary through a frequency-dependent finite-difference time-domain scheme, while a robust stochastic realization is accordingly developed. Findings The mean value and standard deviation of the propagating surface waves are extracted through a single-pass simulation in contrast to the laborious Monte Carlo technique, proving the accomplished high efficiency. Moreover, numerical results, including graphene’s surface current density and electric field distribution, indicate the notable precision, stability and convergence of the new graphene-based stochastic time-domain method in terms of the mean value and the order of magnitude of the standard deviation. Originality/value The combined uncertainties of the main parameters in graphene layers are modeled through a high-performance stochastic numerical algorithm, based on the finite-difference time-domain method. The significant accuracy of the numerical results, compared to the cumbersome Monte Carlo analysis, renders the featured technique a flexible computational tool that is able to enhance the design of graphene THz devices due to the uncertainty prediction.

Dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) may play an important role in the development and maintenance of persistent post-concussive symptoms (PPCS). Post-injury breathing dysfunction, which is influenced by the ANS, has not been well-studied in youth. This study evaluated cardiorespiratory functioning at baseline in youth patients with PPCS and examined the relationship of cardiorespiratory variables with neurobehavioral outcomes. Participants were between the ages of 13–25 in two groups: (1) Patients with PPCS (concussion within the past 2–16 months; n = 13) and (2) non-injured controls (n = 12). Capnometry was used to obtain end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2), oxygen saturation (SaO2), respiration rate (RR), and pulse rate (PR) at seated rest. PPCS participants exhibited a reduced mean value of EtCO2 in exhaled breath (M = 36.3 mmHg, SD = 2.86 mmHg) and an altered inter-correlation between EtCO2 and RR compared to controls. Neurobehavioral outcomes including depression, severity of self-reported concussion symptoms, cognitive catastrophizing, and psychomotor processing speed were correlated with cardiorespiratory variables when the groups were combined. Overall, results from this study suggest that breathing dynamics may be altered in youth with PPCS and that cardiorespiratory outcomes could be related to a dimension of neurobehavioral outcomes associated with poorer recovery from concussion.

The present report is based on reanalysis of data of Marisi (1969) in order to examine the relationship of consistency of motor response among the component responses of a single motor task. 120 high school Ss were tested on a special task, the rho. A single trial on this motor task can be logically separated into three component motor responses: reaction time, a short circular movement, and a short linear movement. The results indicated that consistency of motor response was moderately reliable within the response components but tended to be response-component specific. Further, both the reliability and specificity of motor-response consistency were independent of the size of the mean performance scores.
