Technical measurements of linear-angular sizes of parts and products are the most common in mechanical engineering and make up to 95% of the measurements of all controlled sizes. Measuring control is an integral part of each operation of technological processes of production, assembly, testing of products. The complex method of measuring the external and internal geometric characteristics of a carbide die, given in the article, allows to measure the geometric parameters of small-size parts and to give a final assessment of the product for compliance with the requirements of the project technical documentation.

The optimization design method of geometric parameters of skid shoe which is used to subject weight of marine structures is proposed. Considering skid shoe as steel frame structure, total weight and the bearing capacity of the skid shoe are selected as optimal objectives, and geometric parameters of the skid shoe are taken as design variables. Taking the strength, stiffness, local stability of the skid shoe as the constraint conditions, multi-objectives constraints optimization model of geometric parameters is established, and solved based on complex method. According to research results, a computer program has been developed using VC language. Then geometric optimum parameters of skid shoe in service of CNOOC are analyzed by the program. The results show that optimized design decreases steel volume, steel plate thickness by 28.7%, 18.4%, respectively, compared with original design. The optimization method has a series of advantages, such as simple model, fast calculating speed, high calculation accuracy.

This is the first a series of papers on the cylindrical orthotropic thermal conductivity of spiral woven composites. The geometric characteristics of spiral woven composites are modelled in the present study. A single layer of spiral woven fabric is considered as a fundamental structure and used to develop representative models, including round disc and polygon ones. In these representative models, crimps, cross-sections, and radial and circumferential arrangements of yarns are illustrated by cosine and arc yarn shape functions. A trapezoidal unit cell extracted from a polygon model will provide the next project in the series, with basic geometric parameters to develop thermal models for determining the thermal conductivities of spiral woven composites.

UBC's mechanical engineering program adopted a new evaluation format two years ago basedmore on 'design dossiers' than the traditional formal engineering report. The intent was to provide students with a more industrially relevant experience of generating technical documentation, in which documents are produced on a more continuous basis. Last year, we introduced an evaluation scheme based on rubrics. This year, we plan to compare student and faculty perception sof team performance as evaluated by this rubric scheme. We expect to collect student evaluations from one third to one half of the class and will present our findings at the summer meeting.

Introduction. The purpose of the study is to increase the level of automation of the technical documentation development through solving a problem of synthesis of the structure of technological processes. Materials and Methods. The authors reviewed the current status of the issue of developing the automated structure for technological processes that have shown the complexity of its formalization because of a considerable quantity of factors which must be considered in developing. The algorithm for solving these tasks based on synthesis of technological processes has been developed. Results. The authors identified the relations between the parameters of the structure of technological processes based on the formation of many admissible transitions. The generalized algorithm on the basis of the synthesis is developed. Discussion and Conclusion. The tasks solved in this article allow increasing the level of automation of calculation of the parameters in systems of automated designing. The implementation of the algorithm for designing technological processes, which is developed on the basis of synthesis, allows increasing the general level of automation of designing technological processes.
