The main task of modern mechanical engineering is to increase the technological level, efficiency, labor productivity and quality of output products. The article discusses the possibility of solving these problems during the mechanical processing of workpieces of machine parts by increasing the efficiency of their grinding process - one of the most common technological processes for their machining. In addition, it shows the possibility of automating the control of technological processes for the machining of workpieces in mechanical engineering. Improving the efficiency of the grinding process, i.e. a significant increase in labor productivity, while maintaining the required accuracy and quality of machining, is carried out by applying high cutting speeds and process management based on the use of functional relationships between labor productivity, consumption of abrasive tools and technological factors that affect the accuracy and quality of workpiece machining.

Solving the problem of improving efficiency of technological processes of mineral concentration is one of the essential for providing sustainability of mining enterprises. Currently, special attention is paid to optimization of technological processes in concentration of useful minerals. This approach calls for availability of high-quality data on the process, formation of corresponding databases and their subsequent processing to build adequate and efficient mathematical models of processes and systems. In order to improve quality of mathematical description of forming fractional characteristics of ore through applying technological aggregates in concentration, the authors suggest using power Volterra series that provide characteristics of a controlled object (its condition) as a sequence of multidimensional weight functions invariant to the type of an input signal – Volterra nuclei. Application of Volterra structures enables decreasing the modelling error to 0.039 under the root-mean-square error of 0.0594.

The paper analyzes the technological preparation of production at the railcar enterprises in terms of developing technological processes and processing sets of technological documents. Factors affecting the quality of technological preparation of production for maintenance and repair of rolling stock are considered. In contrast to the previously performed works, where the assessment of the level of technological training was carried out by experts of a scientific organization, the initial data in the article were the results of a survey of specialists of technical departments of structural divisions of the car industry of the Sverdlovsk and South Ural Railways. Based on the method of expert qualimetry, the weight of factors that have the greatest impact on the quality of technological processes is estimated. As a result of the survey, a low level of automation of design processes was established, which consists mainly in the design of technological documentation. It is shown that the degree of depth of development and detail of technological processes is at the level of the route description

The investigation results of the applied simulation modeling programs market from the point of view of the usage possibility and expediency at the development or optimization of technological processes on domestic machinebuilding enterprises are presented. The analysis of the technological processes features in machine-building, and in particular aircraft construction, at domestic enterprises is carried out. The production features of the metalconsuming products and semi-finished products from the point of view these processes simulation expediency are considered. The expediency of carrying out simulation modeling of machine-building production, which provides adequate analysis results at minimal costs in comparison with other modeling methods are shown. The main criteria for choosing of specific simulation software are given. Keywords mechanical engineering technologies; metal-intensive production; aircraft construction; deformation processing of metals and alloys; foundry; equipment productivity; optimal stocks of semi-finished products; insurance stocks; simulation modeling; visualiz

In order to ensure successful innovative development of Latvian mechanical engineering and metalworking industry, quality of human resources is one of the important task. First of all, it is necessary to name health of people working in the industry. In Latvia a number of occupational diseases increased, with the greatest growth taking place in manufacturing industry, integral part of which is the engineering and metalworking industry. The problem of accidents at work is also urgent, the number of diseases caused by growing stress. Taking into consideration difficult demographic situation in Latvia and the existing problems in labor market, this situation requires special attention. In the article, the author substantiates the importance and prospects of the development of health tourism as an important factor in maintaining the health and working ability of workers in engineering industry.

This study explores whether changing design objectives during introductory mechanical engineering courses would improve design novelty and quality when these courses offer a competition element. Design fixation can occur when students are presented with the same design objective because the institutionalized “best” solutions are transferred from semester to semester and student to student. Design competitions are a popular way to teach the design and construction components, often with a focus on robotics. Some competitions are newly designed and rebuilt every single semester, requiring advanced planning and often high budgets. Others reuse a similar competition from year to year without any changes to the design objectives. This paper tries to answer whether or not students are building more novel designs when the competition changes from semester to semester. In this study, robots from four different configurations for a design-and-build activity were analyzed. The unchanged design prompt and 3 semesters of different design prompts were included in the study. The evaluations of the robots were based on the performance of the robots, the type and quality of the designs, and the relationship between the design competition and the robots. Results from this study suggest that changing design objectives (i.e. challenges found in a robotic competition) allows for a wider variation in the designs. While the average novelty did not change, students were no longer limited to and fixated on a very small range of designs.

Licensure examination performance provides an indication of the effectiveness of the curricular program to develop core competencies of students. The study aimed to evaluate the quality of Cebu Technological University’s engineering programs by determining the performance of its graduates in the licensure examinations from 2005 to 2012 and comparing it with the national standard. It also benchmarked its performance with that of the top four private engineering schools of Cebu. Source of data was the Professional Regulation Commission. The result of the study showed that there were no significant differences between the CTU College of Engineering’s performance in the licensure examinations of both Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering as against the National passing performance. There were no significant differences between the performance of CTU and the performance of the top four engineering schools of Cebu in both Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Based on those findings, it can be concluded that the performance of CTU College of Engineering in the licensure examinations is comparable with that of the national standard. It is also comparable with the performances of the top four private engineering schools of Cebu. It is effective in its curricular programs in engineering, competent to provide quality engineering education at par with the top engineering schools of Cebu and the rest of the nation, and capable of producing globally competent engineers.   Keywords - Engineering Education, licensure exam performance, quantitative, t-test, one-way analysis of variance,  Philippines, Asia
