Abstract AISI Type P20 is a chromium-molybdenum tool steel of medium carbon content. It usually is supplied in the prehardened condition (about 300 Brinell) so that the cavity can be machined and the mold or die placed directly in service; however, for some uses further treatments are employed. It is produced to high-quality tool-steel standards to permit a high luster to be achieved on the surface of the polished die cavity. P20 is used for molds for plastics and for die-casting dies for zinc and other low-temperature casting alloys. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-393. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Liquid forging is a new technology of plastic forming. It is a kind of bulk forming process with liquid metal with high-quality and efficiency and it has the characteristics of both die casting and forging. This paper will discuss the liquid forging process, die design, simulation and optimization of liquid forging [1].

Wrought aluminium alloys are prone to hot tearing when cast into near-net shapes. This problem can be overcome by the novel casting technique of rheo-processing combined with high pressure die casting. An industrial engine mounting bracket is produced by rheo-process commercial 7075 with the patented CSIR-RCS and subsequent high pressure die casting. Section thickness changes and constraining geometry make this a difficult component to rheocast. X-ray radiography is used to evaluate hot tearing over the component and is correlated to piston injection shot profile velocities. Gross hot tearing is significantly reduced by a higher injection velocity but turbulent flow entraps air. Faster injection allows more time for flow before final solidification.

Semi-solid die casting technology has great advantages at defects control and has been successfully used to produce high quality aluminum alloy components for several years. In this process, semi-solid metal with high apparent viscosity and low plunger velocity are used to avoid surface turbulence which is the main source of entrapped gas in conventional die casting processes. But, entrapped gas still has other sources, such as melting, pouring, surface flooding and confluence weld. Solution heat treatment is always used to strengthen semi-solid die castings. The entrapped gas leads to blister defects, which directly decreases the acceptance rate of semi-solid die castings. So, the entrapped gas is still a serious issue in semi-solid die casting process. We studied the floating behavior of entrapped gas bubble in semi-solid metal. Two floating models were established for gas bubbles with different sizes. These models were used to analyze the possibility of entrapped gas escaping from semi-solid metal in casting practice. The results showed that entrapped gas from feed billet could not escape from the semi-solid metal in the casting process of impeller, which was proved by experiment results. These results emphasized the importance of clean melt and semi-solid metal. Some advices were given at last for avoiding or removing the entrapped gas in semi-solid die casting process.

The Thixoforming of metals is a new forming technology, which combines the advantages of casting and forging. This technology focuses on structural components with complex shapes, which can not be manufactured using conventional processing methods. Different components made of aluminum and magnesium are already industrially produced. Apart from this, the use of steels in the Thixoforming processes is still being researched and developed. During the last years it became obvious that the Thixoforming of steels may not be a complete substitution for highly automated die-casting or forging processes, but rather a new process route to produce special components with high quality and geometrical demands. Special interest lies in the development and production of filigree components, parts with voids or undercuts, integrated elements such as tubes or tube-systems and joining pieces or products made of different materials. Beside the design of suitable tool materials and tool concepts, the development of homogeneous heating strategies and the development of thixoformable steels is at the center of current research. Therefore, this paper focuses on material requirements which are needed for the Thixoforming of steels and on the production of components and occurring problems. By use of a failure catalogue for Thixoforming of steels, reasons for characteristic failures and suggestions are given to avoid them, so that the quality of thixoformed parts can be improved.

The authors investigate the economic and institutional foundations of the functioning of state corporations. The study revealed the problem of diffusion of innovations from the military sectors to the civilian sectors, which significantly reduces the competitiveness of the latter. The experience of foreign countries, especially the United States, shows that dual technologies, the diffusion of innovations from the military sector into the civilian sector, can give an impetus to the development of civilian industries with obtaining high-quality, unique, competitive products on the world market. It is important to note that state corporations have the potential for the development of dual technologies, but the problem of coordinating the activities of controlled enterprises significantly reduces the possibilities for diversifying production.
