Dissolution of Sulfates and Sulfides Field Scales by Developed Scale Dissolver

Abstract Oil and gas industry deals with fluid streams with different ions and concentrations that might cause scale precipitation. The scale precipitation, will thereafter, affect the fluid flow characteristics. Many problems will be raised by the scale deposition that affects the overall petroleum production. This paper aims to develop a non-corrosive acid system with high dissolution efficiency for field complex scales that have sulfates and sulfides minerals. The paper provided a series of lab analysis that covers the compositional analysis for the collected scale sample, and evaluating the developed acid system for compatible and stable properties, dissolution efficiency, and the corrosive impact. A field scale sample that has a composite chemical composition of paraffin, asphaltene, sulfides and sulfates compounds with different weight percentages by employing the diffraction of X-ray technology. Developing the new scale dissolver was achieved by specific compositional study for the organic acids to achieve high dissolution efficiency and low corrosive impact for the field treatment operations. The study results showed the successful scale removal for the developed dissolver at low temperature of 95 and 113 °F for surface treatment jobs. The dissolution efficiency recorded 62 and 71 % for 17 hours at the temperature levels respectively. The fluid showed a stable and compatible performance and has a pH of 12. The corrosion test was conducted without any scale inhibitors and the results showed the low corrosion effect by 0.0028 lbm/ft2. The obtained successful results will help to dissolve such complex field scales, maintain the well equipment, and maintain the petroleum production from scale issues.

Developing the new scale dissolver was achieved by specific compositional study for the organic acids to achieve high dissolution efficiency and low corrosive impact for the field treatment operations. The study results showed the successful scale removal for the developed dissolver at 160 and 210 °F by dissolution efficiency 100 % for 5 hours. The fluid showed a stable and compatible performance with low rate of solids precipitation after the scale treatment (2.3 %). The developed dissolver has a pH of 9. The corrosion test was conducted without any scale inhibitors and the results showed the low corrosion effect by 0.0129 lbm/ft2. The obtained successful results will help to dissolve such complex field scales, maintain the well equipment, and maintain the petroleum production from scale issues.

This Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia review looks in detail at the trends and highlights for oil and gas production and development both onshore and offshore Australia during 2018. Total petroleum production climbed strongly for the third consecutive year, driven by LNG. A highlight is the start-up of the INPEX Ichthys project. Production is set for further growth in 2019 with the ramp-up of this project and the start-up of Shell’s Prelude floating LNG project. Prelude and Ichthys are the last projects to be commissioned in a wave of seven new LNG projects that are making Australia the world’s largest LNG exporter and a crucial supplier of gas to Asia, including the largest source of LNG for Japan and China and the second-largest source for South Korea. By contrast, Australian oil production continued to fall rapidly and is now easily surpassed by rising condensate production from new LNG projects. There were stark contrasts between domestic gas on the west and east coasts. On the west coast, prices remain low and supply relatively plentiful. The east coast domestic market was tighter and LNG producers responded by diverting gas supplies to the domestic market. This paper canvasses these trends and makes conclusions about the condition of the oil and gas industry in Australia. This paper relies primarily on production and reserves data compiled by EnergyQuest and published in its EnergyQuarterly reports.

Purpose The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore strategies for the de-escalation of kleptocracy in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. Design/methodology/approach The author used a qualitative case study to facilitate the generation of data from eight research participants in semi-structured open-ended interviews. Findings The themes that emerged from analysis of interview transcriptions were high self-control, traditional African oath of office, whistleblowing, stiffer penalties for corrupt officials, education and training, self-regulation and sonic therapeutic intervention. Research limitations/implications Interviewees might withhold information regarding their insights on strategies for de-escalating kleptocracy. That was beyond my control. Practical implications The study results provided leaders with insightful comprehension of anti-kleptocracy policy in the oil and gas industry. Therefore, leaders would benefit and advance their decision-making process on the development and implementation of an anti-kleptocracy strategy to revamp the financial value of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. Social implications The results of the study have the potential to contribute to positive social change by enlightening government leaders and anti-corruption agencies on strategies to de-escalate kleptocracy in the oil and gas industry. Originality/value The study’s uniqueness enabled filling the gap in financial crime literature as well as an added value to the applied management and decision sciences domain.

The research trend of moving robot mechanism in this decade begins to evolve toward to bio robot mechanism. Bio robot mechanism is objectification of a mechanism that emulates the animal’s gait (bio mimicry). The development such as mechanism has resulted various type of robot that able to move inside the pipeline. The technic of this movement imitates earthworm’s motion, which the traction effect produced from peristaltic movement such as swallowing movement in the digestive organs. Given the way of this movement is similar to peristaltic movement in the digestive organs, so the robot usually called peristaltic robot. Generally, these robots consist of elastic segments that deformed in both longitudinal and transverse direction. Each segment able to deforms alternately to generate wave pattern. These consecutive moving of contract and elongate will produce a movement. This manuscript described design, manufacturing, and laboratory test robot in the pipe tube. The results of early test obtained the value of traction is 142 N and the ability test to climb obtained the maximum tilt angle of pipe about 42° with the slip grade of 37%. This study results peristaltic robot that has capability to crawl inside the pipe tube. It is expected; in the future robot can be used to inspection and maintenance of pipe in oil and gas industry

Petroleum-producing companies in Nigeria were forced to increase spending on Nigerian-sourced materials and services from $8 billion to $13 billion since 2010, due to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act that was implemented in 2010 to support local firms and improve the companies’ performance. There is sparse research on how the act affected the companies’ performance. This descriptive correlational study addressed the gap in the literature. Survey data from 372 employees of the five major petroleum-producing companies in Nigeria was analyzed. The study results indicated that the act had a positive effect on the employees’ internal competence factor and the organizations’ operational performance factor. The results are significant in understanding the impact of the act on performance.

Federal tax revenues from the main sectors of the Russian economy after the 1998 crisis are examined in the article. Authors present the structure of revenues from these sectors by main taxes for 1999-2003 and prospects for 2004. Emphasis is given to an increasing dependence of budget on revenues from oil and gas industries. The share of proceeds from these sectors has reached 1/3 of total federal revenues. To explain this fact world oil prices dynamics and changes in tax legislation in Russia are considered. Empirical results show strong dependence of budget revenues on oil prices. The analysis of changes in tax legislation in oil and gas industry shows that the government has managed to redistribute resource rent in favor of the state.

The article deals with the issues of political and economic power as well as their constellation on the market. The theory of public choice and the theory of public contract are confronted with an approach centered on the power triad. If structured in the power triad, interactions among states representatives, businesses with structural advantages and businesses without structural advantages allow capturing administrative rents. The political power of the ruling elites coexists with economic power of certain members of the business community. The situation in the oil and gas industry, the retail trade and the road construction and operation industry in Russia illustrates key moments in the proposed analysis.
