Based on the empirical research of a study with 401 respondents from different maritime domains the paper identifies some causes for gender inequalities in the seafaring profession. The study analyzes the physical and social obstacles for integrating female seafarers in the specific maritime environment. The results of the survey confirm that men and women differ in the attitudes they have for the working environment on a ship. The measurement scale used is reflected in the single-factor analysis. The conclusions contribute to the development of additional training courses for maritime universities to be prepared to give their students the necessary knowledge to reduce the gender differences in their future work on a ship.

Background: Epitendinous sutures not only join the 2 severed tendon edges but also supply strength and support to the repair. Multiple techniques have been described, but none of them include another thread of suture. This could potentially increase the strength of the repair without affecting gliding. Methods: Caprine tendons were harvested, transected, and sutured with 6-0 Prolene. Four groups were created: single thread running (SR), single thread locking (SL), double thread running (DR), and double thread locking (DL). An Instron 5542 was used to pull the repaired tendons apart, and the energy at the break was calculated (gf/mm). For gliding resistance, we harvested a human A2 pulley. A pre- and postrepair value was obtained, and a ratio was elaborated. A single-factor analysis of variance and independent sample t tests were performed. Results: The SR group had a mean energy at break of 9339.71 ± 1630.212 gf/mm; the SL group, 9629.96 ± 1476.45 gf/mm; and the DR group, 9600.221 ± 976.087 gf/mm, with no statistical significance. The DL group was significantly higher at 14 740.664 ± 2596.586 gf/mm ( P < .05). When comparing SR with DL for gliding, SR had less than half of the resistance than DL (0.018 ± 0.004 and 0.049 ± 0.015 N/mm, respectively), with statistical significance ( P < .05). Conclusion: Using a single suture thread for running epitendinous repair is no different than locking with a single thread or using an extra thread in a running fashion. Performing a double suture thread with a locking technique is significantly stronger than the previously mentioned repairs, with the disadvantage of more resistance at the pulley.

The study and analysis in this paper based on addressing gender differences is common as long as it does not result in gender inequalities. In general, the notion of gender is a visible difference between men and women when viewed from values and behavior. In the Women Studies Encyclopedia it is explained that Gender is a cultural concept, seeking to make a distinction in terms of the roles, behaviors, mentality, and emotional characteristics of the growing male and female in society. However, reality in society indicates that gender differences give rise to various forms of inequality and injustice. Islam is a religion that strongly emphasizes the importance of respect for human beings and it seems his teaching is very accommodating to human values. One form of elaboration of human values is a sincere recognition of human equality and unity. The women of Rasulullah SAW era are described as active, polite, well-preserved women. In fact, in the Qur'an, the ideal figure of a Muslim is symbolized as a person who has independence in politics, like the figure of Queen Balqis who leads the superpower kingdom (`arsyun` azhim). Communication is the exchange of ideas, information, feelings or thoughts between people (individuals) face to face (face to face), verbal and non verbal. While counseling is a reciprocal relationship between two individuals, where a counselor is trying to help the other (the client) to try to solve the problems he is facing.Relation of gender is a social relationship between men and women who are socially formed and culture in doing everything. Based on the findings, it turns out that the meeting in West Aceh district, who want to appear in politics and to become ruler is still zero percent. Keywords: Gender Relations, Communications, Public Speaking, Private Speaking

Attitudes concerning gender and grief were investigated using a convenience sample of 106 men and women ages 23 to 82 years. Participants rated conjugal grief behaviors of target figures for sympathy and appropriateness on the Attitudes Toward Gender and Grief Scale, rated their own sex-role type on the Bem Sex Role Inventory, and provided demographic information and a brief grief history. Results from factor analysis of the Attitudes Toward Gender and Grief Scale showed evidence for the construct validity of the scale by yielding three factors: sympathy, appropriateness of instrumental grief, and appropriateness of intuitive grief. The hypothesis that factor analysis of the Attitudes Toward Gender and Grief Scale would show that vignettes describing gender-stereotypical grief behavior would load positively on factors for sympathy and appropriateness was not confirmed. However, the hypothesis that female participants would give more sympathy to grieving people than males was confirmed. Contrary to expectation, participants did not give female target figures more sympathy than male figures; women did not give the most sympathy to female target figures; and men did not give male target figures the least sympathy. As hypothesized, feminine sex-typed and androgynous participants gave more sympathy to grieving people than masculine sex-typed participants. Findings were discussed in terms of evolutionary, developmental, and sex-role socialization theories.

The article is devoted to the study of the properties of the yarn obtained by the methods of ring and rotor spinning, for twisted yarn, produced on a VTS-09 double twist machine made by Volkmann (Germany). Experiments were carried out on two typesof spinning yarns with yarn counts Ne 20/2 and 12/2 in the existing design (control) and the new design, flexible element with equal tension and twist intensifier and compared the effects of the resulting twisted yarn for quality parameters. Mathematical statistical methods (single-factor analysis of variance) were used to assess the quality of twisted yarn. Experiments have shown that the use of a new design nozzle reduces the vibration of the yarn, which leads to a uniform distribution of twists along the length of the twisted yarn, increases its tensile strength and improves the quality of the twisted yarn.

Abstract BackgroundThe association between environmental factors and asthma has attracted much attention. Numerous studies have focused on the effects of air pollution or meteorological factors, but the synergistic effects and regional heterogeneity remain unclear. MethodsBetween 2014 and 2015, 8,563 hospital admissions in 2014 and 7,804 hospital admissions in 2015 due to asthma were collected from 14 regions in Guangxi, China. First, we performed a Spearman correlation coefficient model as the single factor analysis to estimate correlation between environmental factors and asthma hospitalization rates in multiple regions. Second, Generalized Additive Model (GAM) was used to analyze the synergistic effects of environmental factors on asthma hospitalization rates in 14 regions, respectively.ResultsThe results indicated that asthma hospitalization rates were high in spring and autumn. There were all nonlinear relationships between air pollutants, meteorological factors and asthma hospitalization rates, and the relationships were different from region to region. According to the single factor analysis, asthma hospitalizations were related to the daily temperature, daily range of temperature, CO, NO2, and PM2.5 in multiple regions. According to the result of synergistic effects analysis, the adjusted R-square was high in Beihai and Nanning, with values of 0.292 and 0.207, which meant that environmental factors were powerful in explaining changes of asthma hospitalization rates in Beihai and Nanning.ConclusionDaily range of temperature is an important factor impact on asthma, which should be considered in the analysis of environmental factors impact on asthma. It is suggested that the relationship between asthma and risk factors in different regions deserves additional study. Governments should develop targeted protective measures for asthma in different regions.

Objective: This article analyzed gender differences in professional advancement following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic based on data from open-source software developers in 37 countries. Background: Men and women may have been affected differently from the social distancing measures implemented to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. Given that men and women tend to work in different jobs and that they have been unequally involved in childcare duties, school and workplace closings may have impacted men’s and women’s professional lives unequally. Method: We analyzed original data from the world’s largest social coding community, GitHub. We first estimated a Holt-Winters forecast model to compare the predicted and the observed average weekly productivity of a random sample of male and female developers (N=177,480) during the first lockdown period in 2020. To explain the cross-country variation in the gendered effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on software developers’ productivity, we estimated two-way fixed effects models with different lockdown measures as predictors – school and workplace closures, in particular. Results: In most countries, both male and female developers were, on average, more productive than predicted, and productivity increased for both genders with increasing lockdown stringency. When examining the effects of the most relevant types of lockdown measures separately, we found that stay-at-home restrictions increased both men’s and women’s productivity and that workplace closures also increased the number of weekly contributions on average – but for women, only when schools were open. Conclusion: Having found gender differences in the effect of workplace closures contingent on school and daycare closures within a population that is relatively young and unlikely to have children (software developers), we conclude that the Covid-19 pandemic may indeed have contributed to increased gender inequalities in professional advancement.
