Effects of Improved Traffic Management on Sustainable Distributed Road Transportation Safety Based on Asian Experiences Knowledge of the improved traffic management and its effect on road safety is an important component in the process of sustainable road network development. Having in mind that so many road traffic casualties occur, a key priority in transport policy is making highways as safe as possible. The mentioned objective is attained by means of sustainable safety. The paper focuses on sustainable road safety and his principles, based on selected Asian countries experiences. The knowledge base covers institutional responsibility of road safety, the development of a road safety action plan, raising awareness and understanding of road safety problems, road crash data systems, road safety education and training, traffic safety legislation, enforcement of traffic laws and monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of road safety activities. In order to improve road transportation safety an organized sustainable approach is needed via concentrated action of all of participants in the process of realizing the transport service such as: governments at all levels, those who are professionally engaged in transport and traffic engineering and road users themselves.

A cluster analysis of field observation data was performed using the Statistica 12 software, connections were established in the middle of the data set, and the obtained data were organized into certain structures. As a result of the clustering, groups of clusters that have the greatest impact on speed were identified. During the last decades Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have been attracting the interest of an increasing number of researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs, as well as citizens and civil authorities, since they can contribute towards improving road transport safety and efficiency and ameliorate environmental conditions and life quality. Emerging technologies yield miniaturized sensing, processing and communication devices that enable a high degree of integration and open the way for a large number of smart applications that can exploit automated fusion of information and enable efficient decisions by collecting, processing and communicating a large number of data in real-time. The cornerstone of these applications is the realization of an opportunistic wireless communication system between vehicles as well as between vehicles and infrastructure over which the right piece of information reaches the right location on time. In this paper, the authors present the design and implementation of representative safety and traffic management applications. Specifically the authors discuss the hardware and software requirements presenting a use case based on the NEC Linkbird-MX platform, which supports IEEE 802.11p based communications. The authors show how the functionality of IEEE 802.11p can be exploited to build efficient road safety and traffic management applications over mobile opportunistic systems and discuss practical implementation issues.

Assessing the grip of the road surface is an extremely important task both in the field of traffic management, and in the field of investigation and examination of traffic accidents. The coupling quality of the road surface is fully ensured by the grip coefficient, which is subject to constant monitoring in order to ensure road safety. There are a large number of methods for determining the magnitude of the grip coefficient. In their study, the authors propose an improved approach for determining the investigated value using the weather and climate factor. Previously, a group of researchers in the course of scientific research determined the dependence of the grip coefficient on the temperature of the road surface, as a result of mathematical analysis, the authors obtained a dependence that allows to determine the studied value by air temperature and the condition of the road surface (presence of precipitation). The performed experiment allowed us to test the obtained dependence within the framework of the object of study and to make a comparative assessment of the results obtained with the data obtained using the road laboratory.

In General, two problems need to be solved in the traffic management system: road safety and capacity. In this paper, it is proposed to use a calculated way to optimize the cycle of a traffic light object in order to ensure the maximum capacity of the node of the road network. The calculation method is based to determining the optimal ratio of the number of lanes intended for vehicle traffic and the duration of a cycle of the traffic light object. Keywords capacity, street and road network, traffic flow, stop line, width of the roadway

Abstract   The fatality rate of traffic accidents in Sleman Regency is increasing every year. This study aims to identify black spots and set priorities for repairing road infrastructure components needed to improve road safety on 3 provincial roads in Sleman Regency. The black spot is determined using the Accident Equivalence Number Method and the Upper Control Limit. The evaluation carried out resulted in the 3 worst segments on each observed road segment. The results of the road safety evaluation show that the technical implementation of traffic management and engineering, the technical use of road components, and the technicality of road equipment are the 3 technical requirements of the road with the lowest level of application. To improve road safety, this study recommends adding rumble strips, adding signs, relocating roadside hazards, and adding sidewalks and crossing zones.   Keywords: fatality; black spots; traffic accident; road; road safety. Kata-kata kunci: fatalitas; black spot; kecelakaan lalu lintas; jalan; keselamatan jalan.

Globally, motorcycle riders make up the biggest percentage of vulnerable road user fatalities. The percentages are higher in African cities where moto-taxi transport is not only the most readily available mode of transport but also a source of income for many especially the youth. Many African cities are re-strategizing on how to sustainably deal with problems like traffic congestion, unplanned development, flooding, air and noise pollution. The authors carried out a questionnaire survey targeting a variety of road safety stakeholders to identify road safety solutions that they think best fit the current situation. Another questionnaire survey targeting moto-taxi riders was carried out, and the data analyzed by SEM to identify how different solutions interact to affect the behavior of riders. Results show that education and training programs have the biggest effect on improving behavior of riders as they adapt to new city regulations such as zoning. Other aspects such as presence of customers, behavior of other road users, road environment were also explored. Currently, city authorities in some developing nations are looking to introduce spatial regulations such as zoning and traffic management strategies such as exclusive lanes. Therefore, the contribution of this study is a proposal of a combination of solutions that different road safety stakeholders in developing countries can contribute toward the sustainable improvement of the safety of riders.
