This paper provides some insight into students' performance and perceptions within the context of an introductory psychology course in which Web-based materials and activities were used to enhance teaching effectiveness and learning outcomes. The paper begins with an overview of the development and implementation of this French-language WebCT course. The rationale behind the adoption of WebCT and the use of a number of its tools are also discussed. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this pedagogical approach, we collected quantitative and qualitative information on student performance and perceptions from a number of sources throughout the term. The data highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses of this particular use of online teaching and learning support.

The study focuses on the implementation of the “Game Ranking 1st” method to increase student learning motivation in the subject of Islamic Religious Education at SMPN 3, Pare, Kediri. Through this learning method, the online teaching and learning process is expected to be learner-centered, while the teacher acts as a guide. This study uses qualitative approaches and descriptive methods. Data Collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants involved in this study were a teacher of Islamic Religious Education and several students at grade VII of SMPN 3 Pare, Kediri. The result of this study indicates that: 1) The application of the “Game Ranking 1st” method in Islamic Education is implemented in stages; preparation, in the form of checking attendance and presenting learning steps; implementation, by providing the Quizizz web link along with the code to students; and evaluate learning outcomes. 2) Through the “Game Ranking 1st” method, student’s intrinsic motivation is increased marked by their enthusiasm and high interest in learning, along with extrinsic motivation, they are attracted by the stimulus provided by the teacher in the form of value rewards and praise, and punishment in the form of adding questions and assignment.

As COVID-19 hits the world shockingly, most nations worldwide have agreed to put educational institutions temporarily close. However, education has not stopped, but to go fully online as schools and universities could provide remote education. In this case, teachers have been struggling to adapt to the new norm to stop disease transmission. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the impact of Online Teaching and Learning (OTL) on teachers during COVID-19. The questionnaire was distributed randomly online among 320 teachers in Malaysia. SPSS has been used to analyse the completed questionnaire to obtain descriptive and inferential statistics. Three variables that have been used in this study were effectiveness, challenges, and school reopening using Cronbach’s alpha, hypothesis testing, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. This study has shown that most teachers were affected by using online as a new method of teaching. A negative correlation between effectiveness and challenges has implied that increasing challenges would decrease online teaching effectiveness. Besides, many of the components show a significant difference in the variables in terms of socio-demographic profiles. The findings obtained would help the higher administration tackle challenges the teachers face and know the effectiveness of online teaching and learning.

Web-based teaching has become one of the main stream teaching and learning methods in most of the higher education institutions. To support teaching and learning activities over the Internet, Web-based teaching has been implemented with various technologies. Among the various solutions, using the open source technology to construct a platform for supporting online teaching and learning has attracted a great deal of attention. To better understand the open source technology and how it can be used to support online teaching and learning, we will first take an overview of the open source technology in this chapter. We will investigate the roles played by the open source technology. We will also examine the strengths and weaknesses of the open source technology in general. At the end of this chapter, a framework of the book will be presented to give an overall picture of the discussion in the book.

A significant number of colleges in the US and abroad are moving from the traditional face-to-face classes into fully online, web-based courses. Online education, often called distance education or web-based education, is currently the latest, most popular form of distance education.  It has recently become an integral part of many university programs. This paper provides a brief introduction to online teaching and learning.

The paper covers some issues of student performance in Simultaneous Interpreting modules during the emergency remote training in March – June 2020 when many universities around the world had to switch quickly to online synchronous training. Simultaneous Interpreting was chosen for this research since the existing IT platforms for online training are not sufficient in view of the complexity of simultaneous interpreting training which requires special equipment and the availability of two channels of communication. The research explores the main challenges facing trainers and students when they had to move to emergency online teaching and learning and assesses the performance of students in synchronous online simultaneous classes and final examinations or assessments. The study is based on qualitative methods guided by grounded theory and engaged 17 teachers and 24 students at seven universities teaching Simultaneous Interpreting modules. The results of the research showed that the move to emergency remote teaching and learning did not have any significant impact on the performance of students and their assessment in the remaining part of the module. Academic teams came up with a number of innovative solutions for remote teaching, learning and assessment which should be studied further in order to develop effective tools which could be used in synchronous online simultaneous interpreting teaching and learning in the future.
