he article presents an interdisciplinary view of research methods in the theory of education. The development of issues in the theory of education presupposes a clear organization of research activities, in which a key role is played by rethinking and adequate using of research methods from related sciences (psychology, sociology, physiology, cultural studies, and others). Modern theory and practice of education are changing as a result of the integration of knowledge of related humanities. More and more complex and complex problems arise. All in all it necessitates rethinking the methodology of the theory of education. Currently, it is necessary to conduct research activities at the intersection of sciences, which improves the quality of research and allows more holistic use of the results obtained in practice. The article reveals significant principles that determine the methodology of the modern theory of upbringing - the principle of humanitarianism and social expediency of the upbringing process, the principle of the unity of the theory and practice of upbringing, the principle of development, the principle of consistency and determination. Authors highlight the significant interdisciplinary scientific approaches that are relevant to substantiate research methods in the modern theory of education. The basis for the selection of methods was grounded by such disciplines that allow us to consider various aspects of the educational activities of a teacher, enrich the researcher with scientific information about a person and the mechanisms of his personal dynamics (existential philosophy), about the creation of a flexible, open dialogue space in which zones of self-organization of children are provided (synergetics), on the art of deciphering verbal and non-verbal signs of a child (semiotics), on the awareness of the child's path as reaching the heights through difficulties and overcoming (acmeology), on understanding the child through comprehending the meanings of children's behavior (hermeneutics), on the interpretation of the personality as an integral open multilevel developing system capable of withstanding external influences (humanistic psychology). In conclusion, the authors note the importance of a new pedagogical direction - semantic pedagogy, which can be considered as the basis for the integration of humanitarian knowledge, which is essential for modern theory.

This nonexperimental, exploratory, mixed-design study used questionnaires with 167 preservice secondary teachers to identify prior educational experiences associated with student-teachers’ inquiry understanding. Understanding was determined through content analysis then open coding of definitions of inquiry and descriptions of best-experienced inquiry instruction, in terms of 23 potential learner-inquiry outcomes. Only two of seven educational-context variables related to understanding: prior experience doing a thesis or research—especially to definition quality and having taken a research-methods course—especially to description quality. How definitions and descriptions of inquiry are different and similar was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Implications for methodology, theory, and practice were presented, for example, research opportunities and research-methods training during teacher education.

In the contemporary academic setting, the quality of publications and the publication activity of a scientist, educational or research institution are evaluated using a set of scientific metric indicators. There are the following parameters: total citations, total number of links, the Hirsch index, impact factor, g-index, and-10 index. The aim of the paper is to cover the methods of working with the world scientific and metric databases of literature, as well as to explain the essence and algorithms for calculating the major scientific and metric indicators. We used the bibliosemantic research method in order to analyze the relevant scientific literature. The article describes the principles of mastering the tools of international databases Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Mendeley bibliographic manager, ORCID system. The paper focuses on the essence of scientific and metric indicators, calculated by these resources, as well as their scope and possibilities. The authors analyze the positive aspects of using the scientific metrics to determine the influence of a particular author or institution, as well as a number of subjective disadvantages of their widespread adoption in higher education. The modern tools for working with scientific information play a key role in the research activities of scientists, institutions of higher education, research institutions. The quality of publications is determined by a number of scientific metrics, calculated by authoritative scientific literature databases, such as Scopus and Web of Science. The h-indices are calculated in terms of publications in these bases, and serve as qualitative indicators for scientific activity evaluation. Scopus and Web of Science, in addition to their own built-in tools for searching, visualizing, analyzing and tracking data, integrated with the registers of scientists, bibliographic managers, plugins that allow to automate the processes of citation, lists of literature, preparation of publications according to the requirements of a specific edition, work with full-text versions of articles in different formats.

The seeming corpulent connection between theory and practice informs this inquiry. Whereas there have been claims from several quarters that the decline in the quality of pedagogy lies with poor theory but where there is a sound one, its deleterious practice or application is considered a foremost culprit. Consequent upon this, this research takes a twist on this issue. Through the method of critical analysis and interpretation, the study employs the Marxist theory of education as its theoretical framework. In other words, the paper takes its cue from a Marxist perspective to posit that the society is a battle ground of ideologies. What is perceived as failed theory and/or practice in pedagogy is actually the fulfillment of an ideology of the ruling class who are not only the ruling material force but also the society’s ruling intellectual force. This clearly portends that there is an ideology behind any curriculum and its application. It is always a curriculum put in place by the ruling class. It is calculated to produce minds that would condone and uphold the hegemonic status quo of the ruling intellectual force. It therefore does not matter whether or not society develops. For development is defined by the prevailing ideology. Contrary opinions are repressed and exterminated usually through force or rhetoric. If this is the case, the question of theory and practice in pedagogy does not arise. On the contrary, the main impetus ought to be how to deal with what kind of ideology persists in a society’s educational curriculum. Hence, the current study proposes a re-thinking away from the perceived and seemingly wide abyss between theory and practice. This is because every fact and practice is theory-laden. It is the submission of this paper that the ideological basis of a curriculum demands more attention.

The main task of the article is to define the concept of «educational technologies» in the context of modern educational space. The system of views of domestic and foreign scholars is revealed. It defines educational technology as an integration model, integrates into a holistic system of purpose, change, didactic complex. The main emphasis is on progressive educational technologies, especially: personally oriented, projective, cooperative, simulation, informational. It has been established that the highest result in learning is achieved by students under the following conditions: the formation of an active attitude to teaching, the teaching of material in a certain sequence, demonstration and consolidation while exercising various methods of mental and practical activity, the application of knowledge in practice. The theoretical component of pedagogical technology is the concept as a system of views on a particular phenomenon. In modern theory and practice, the most common are person-oriented technologies based on the theory of personality-oriented learning, the central figure of which stands for the personality, identity and self-worth. The subjective experience of each child is first disclosed and then is consistent with the content of education. The main factors that are laid down in pedagogical technologies and determine their fundamental difference is their basis - theory and concept. This explains their diversity, which is disclosed by domestic scientists in scientific and methodological works. It is proved that personally oriented technologies are focused on the personality of the child, providing comfortable conditions for its development, realization of its natural psychophysiological, intellectual, spiritual and spiritual instincts.
