The population of Chinese descendants in Indonesia reaches 7 millions. Their success cannot be taken separated from the culture embedded. On the other hand, understanding Chinese cultures cannot be separated from analyzing Chinese believes. There is a long history of Chinese religion. It has also portrayed the differences of cultures from which the portrayal forms unique symbol and characterization of its people. The outstanding quality of religions of Chinese-Indonesians is the adaptability, acceptance and openness. Indonesian Government, which has the policy of uniformity after the 1960 causes the breach of Chinese heritage for a long period of time. This has cost socio-structural gaps and multicultural disparity which is getting wider between east and west cultures. This thesis discusses the history and developments of Chinese-Indonesian religions with future predictions uphold.

A research program on the characteristics of biosolids flushed from sewer systems in Toulouse (southwest France) and on the quality of sand extracted from these biosolids by hydrocycloning was carried out using samples from different sites. The treatment of washing water through air flotation was also studied. These initial results show the difficulty in establishing a strict typology for each family of flushed biosolids. On the other hand, the measurements done after hydrocycloning the biosolids clearly show that it is possible to imagine high performance treatment centers which would be able to provide a homogeneously treated product only slightly polluted, starting from very variable waste. Under certain operating conditions. The flotation of washing water thus perfectly completes the treatment of biosolids, and allows one to obtain the weakest possible volume of residue.

This paper examines the link between the design codes, good design and the prevention of field failures. There are many design codes for the fatigue design of welds. They contain many differences influenced by the history of particular industries. Engineering may not be well served by these codes since on one hand they are normally conservative, thus creating excessively heavy structures. On the other hand the design codes often do not include the most important factors in the life expectancy of a weld namely the weld procedure, the quality of the weld and environmental effects. The paper concludes that a thorough review and unification of the industry design codes is overdue. The issue of manufacture of welds has to be put at the centre of the consideration of fatigue design.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ginger extract addition and refrigerate storage on sensory quality of Tuna through panelist’s perception. Panelists (n=30) evaluated samples for overall appearance and flavor attribute using hedonic scale 1–7. The sample which is more acceptable by panelists on flavor attributes having 3% gingers extract and storage for 3 days. The less acceptable sample on flavor attribute having 0% ginger extract and storage for 9 days. On the other hand, the sample which is more acceptable by panelists on overall appearance having 0% ginger extract without storage treatment. The less acceptable sample on overall appearance having 3% ginger extract and storage for 9 days.

The following pages are based on the last six months of 1948 which the writer spent in England, France and Italy. During this period Marshall aid had begun to bear certain fruit. On the other hand the international situation, already bad at the opening of the period, had deteriorated cumulatively as time passed. The Berlin deadlock, a symbol of the will of East and West, continued as before; and not even the beginning of a solution was reached at the United Nations assembly in Paris in die autumn. All over Europe people were preoccupied widi the economic crisis; but also by the direat of a new war. A military committee composed of Great Britain, France and Benelux was formed in the autumn under the chairmanship of Marshal Montgomery. There remained problems about this committee's effectiveness as well as about the extent to which other proposals for Western union were practicable at present. While in each country in Western Europe common people and politicians are talking more about union than ever before, in practice separatist tendencies in each shrunken western nation are still at work and travel to, or independent contact with, neighboring countries is a far more difficult business today than it was in 1939.

This article examines the nature and frequency of comments about Jews and Judaism in sermons delivered by Confessing Church pastors in the Nazi dictatorship.  The approach of most historians has focused on the history of antisemitism in the German Protestant tradition—in the works, pronouncements, and policies of the German churches and its leading figures.  Yet historians have left unexamined the most elemental task of the pastor—that is, preaching from the pulpit to the German people.  What would the average German congregant have heard from his pastor about the Jews and Judaism on any given Sunday?  I searched German archives, libraries, and used book stores, and analyzed 910 sermon manuscripts that were produced and disseminated in the Nazi regime.  I argue that these sermons provide mixed messages about Jews and Judaism.  While on the one hand, the sermons express admiration for Judaism as a foundation for Christianity, an insistence on the usage of the Hebrew Bible in the German churches, and the conviction that the Jews are spiritual cousins of Christians.  On the other hand, the sermons express religious prejudice in the form of anti-Judaic tropes that corroborated the Nazi ideology that portrayed Jews and Judaism as inferior: for instance, that Judaism is an antiquated religion of works rather than grace; that the Jews killed Christ and have been punished throughout history as a consequence.  Furthermore, I demonstrate that Confessing Church pastors commonly expressed anti-Judaic statements in the process of criticizing the Nazi regime, its leadership, and its policies.

Over the course of his 14-year career at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History, artist and engraver John Conrad Hansen rendered hundreds of beautiful and accurate scientific illustrations of animals – mostly extinct fossil vertebrates. His principal media were oil paintings, pencil, pen-and-ink and wash drawings. Many of his illustrations have been published in the scientific literature. His oil paintings, on the other hand, were made for display alongside specimens in the Field Museum's exhibits. Despite the quality of Hansen's full-colour reconstructions, few of them have been seen outside the Museum. A small, representative sample of his work is reproduced here, along with a brief account of his troubled life and career.

Is friendship still possible under nihilistic conditions? Kant and Nietzsche are important stages in the history of the idealization of friendship, which leads inevitably to the problem of nihilism. Nietzsche himself claims on the one hand that only something like friendship can save us in our nihilistic condition, but on the other hand that precisely friendship has been unmasked and become impossible by these very conditions. It seems we are struck in the nihilistic paradox of not being allowed to believe in the possibility of what we cannot do without. Literary imagination since the 19th century seems to make us even more skeptical. Maybe Beckett provides an illustration of a way out that fits well to Nietzsche's claim that only "the most moderate, those who do not require any extreme articles of faith" will be able to cope with nihilism.

Fourty-nine 12 months old children and their mothers were videotaped in Ainsworth's Strange Situation. Fourty-six of them were videotaped again in the same situation at 18 months with their fathers. Quality of attachment was determined by using Ainsworth's criteria. Fewer children had 'secure' relationships to their parents than in comparable U.S. samples. There was no correlation between infant-mother and infant-father quality of attachment relationship. The results are discussed in terms of parental attempts to cope with cultural demands imposed on them. These specific cultural demands may frequently interfere with the establishment of a securely attached relationship. On the other hand, they may be only transitory and appropriate from an adaptation to culture-specific expectancies point of view.

The two most important deviations from the normal life-history of ferns, apogamy and apospory, are of interest in themselves, but acquire a more general importance from the possibility that their study may throw light on the nature of alternation of generations in archegoniate plants. They have been considered from this point of view Pringsheim, and by those who, following him, regard the two generations as homologous with one another in the sense that the sporophyte arose by the gradual modification of individuals originally resemblin the sexual plant. Celakovsky and Bower, on the other hand, maintaint the view tha t the sporophyte, as an interpolated stage in the life-history arising by elaboration of the zygote, a few thallophytes.
