The determinants of students’ academic performance caught the attention of many scholars for many years now. Among other factors, self-efficacy proved to be an important predictor of academic performance. In an educational context, self-efficacy refers to students’ expectations about their ability to complete academic tasks successfully. Learners, who are unsure of their ability to complete the task, often give up when they encounter difficulties. This study tested the relationship between self-efficacy and academic performances in Algebra among first-year private non-sectarian high school students. The research design was descriptive- correlation survey method that utilizes a modified tool in Algebra self-efficacy scale in order to gather data from 163 first-year students from different high schools in Davao City. The academic performance measured in this study was based on students’ third-quarter grades. Data were treated using Mean and Pearson Product - Moment Coefficient of Correlation. The results of the study indicated that the level of students’ self–efficacy on Motivational Strategies, Cognitive Strategies, Resource Management, and Self-Regulated Learning is high. Furthermore, students’ level on academic performance in Algebra is satisfactory. Self-efficacy was not significantly related to academic performance in Algebra. The study recommends using a standardized test in algebra to measure students’ academic performance and with a bigger sample proportionate to the population of each school.Keywords— Mathematics Education, self–efficacy, academic performance, algebra, first year students, private non-sectarian, descriptive-correlational design, Davao City, Philippines

This study aimed at determining the improvement of the quality of students who refered to several factors, namely self-regulated learning, self-efficacy and parental involvement in Education using a quantitative research approach with the Self-Efficiency scale, the scale of parental involvement in education and the scale of self-regulated learning. In this study it could be said that the ability of self-efficacy and parent involvement in education were able to predict the ability of self-regulated learning. Junior high school students realized that their abilities were supported by parents who provided assistance in the learning process would make it easier to regulate teenage learning activities.Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kualitas pebelajar yang merujuk pada beberapa faktor yaitu self-regulated learning, efikasi diri dan keterlibatan orangtua dalam Pendidikan dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kuantitatif dengan skala Efikasi Diri, Skala keterlibatan orangtua dalam pendidikan dan Skala self regulated learning. Pada penelitian ini dapat dikatakan bahwa kemampuan efikasi diri dan Keterlibatan orangtua dalam pendidikan mampu memprediksi kemampuan self regulated learning. Remaja SMP menyadari akan kemampuan yang mereka miliki didukung oleh orangtua yang memberikan bantuan dalam proses belajar akan mempermudah dalam meregulasi kegiatan belajar remaja.

Students’ educational outcomes are influenced by several factors that are not directly related to their personal characteristics, among which parental beliefs and behaviours are of special relevance. The present study was conducted on a sample of 301 primary school students and their parents, who completed a set of prepared questionnaires used for investigating the contribution of parental self-efficacy and the perception of parental involvement to students’ academic achievement, perceived academic control and achievement goals. The obtained results indicated parental self-efficacy as a predictor of perceived academic control and avoidance goals, whereas perception of parental involvement predicted perceived academic control, mastery approach and work avoidance goals. These findings confirm and extend previous knowledge regarding the relevance of parents’ engagement to children’s educational outcomes.

In this study, the role of a proactive personality as a mediator in the relationship between parental involvement and self-efficacy in high school students’ career decisions was examined. The participants included 758 grade 11 students in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek). The instrument that used in this study are Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form (CDSES-SF), Parent Career Behavior Checklist (PCBC), and Proactive Personality Scale (PPS). The results revealed that a proactive personality partially mediates the relationship between parental support and parental action with self-efficacy in career decisions. Furthermore, parental support and parental action directly influence self-efficacy in career decisions.


This study aimed to explore the profile of Language Learning Strategies used among female secondary school students learning English as a foreign language in Buraidah and the relation between English language leaning strategies and self-efficacy, attitude and language proficiency. The participants were (1924) female students’ secondary schools in Buraidah. The result indicated that the Participants use strategies at a moderate level (2.98), metacognitive strategies were the most frequently used among the six strategies followed by compensatory strategies, social strategies, memory strategies, cognitive strategies and affective strategies respectively. There is statistically significant positive correlation between total scores of strategies and total scores of English self-efficacy, attitude towards English, English language proficiency.
