Study Design: Cross‑sectional study. Study Setting: At King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia between June 8th, 2019 till June 25th, 2019. Methodology: An online questionnaire was distributed to all 700 5th and 6th year medical students at King Abdulaziz University Hospital and they were asked to fill it anonymously. Pre-clinical medical students (2nd, 3rd and 4th years) were excluded due to their lack of exposure to the field of anesthesiology. The estimated sample size was a random 248 medical students of KAUH. Results: Our results showed that the most preferred specialties were Internal medicine (37.9%), followed by surgery (35.5%), then family medicine (27%). While the field of anesthesiology was chosen by 14.5% of the participants. However, in response to a separate question, 79.8% of the respondents have not considered it as their future career. Many considered Doctor-patient relationship to have the greatest influence (81.7%), followed by controllable lifestyle (80%), while income 71% and prestige 63.2% were less influential factors for those career decisions. Conclusion: It is essential to show medical students that anesthesiologists do interact with patients and increase their interaction with influential individuals in this field since they are capable of positively adjusting their viewpoints.

Abstract The forecasted adoption of autonomous vehicles (AVs) will lead to major changes to the job of truck driving. These changes may be particularly challenging for drivers, as the population of truck drivers skews much older than that of other occupations. In this study we sought to understand truck drivers’ attitudes towards AVs and the longevity of their job. We conducted focus groups with truck drivers, their supervisors, and upper-level managers of trucking companies. We relate supervisors’ and managers’ experiences working with drivers through the rollout of new technologies to further understand drivers’ initial reactions to automation and how their attitudes may develop. Based on qualitative open coding our analysis uncovered two overarching themes. The first theme is the unknown. With AVs, companies expect that experience will be less important, so they can hire younger workers. In response, drivers have expressed fear of being displaced and anxiety over the uncertainty of not knowing how their jobs will be affected. The second theme is adaptability, and desire to adapt. Older drivers have expressed resistance to adapting to AVs and to their job changing. Concerningly however, managers envision the need for a driving workforce that has experience working with technology and is adaptable. Our study identifies key challenges concerning older workers’ reactions and career decisions in response to automation. Accounting for driver reactions to AVs is necessary not only to build theory and understanding on worker reactions to automation, but also for workforce planning and to support employees, particularly older workers.

This research was conducted at SMK Garut Regency on Deaf children who have difficulties in making decisions about careers at school and post-school careers. The decision to choose student majors is currently based on the strong will of parents, besides that teacher are less able to provide alternatives to the choice of majors they are interested in and are not based on the results of the assessment of talents and interests. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to see the obstacles of students in achieving career maturity based on the results of the needs analysis. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The participants of this study were Deaf children that had an impact on language skills and cognitive abilities in interpreting information, other subjects were classroom teachers, subject teachers, and special education teachers closest to the student's environment. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation studies, and data analysis techniques used data triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the obstacles for students in making career decisions are caused by the impact of their deafness so that they are hampered by expressive and receptive communication skills that do not support them to ask questions so that they only get information from outside and find it difficult to interpret the information they get. The encouragement and prestige of parents and friends are other obstacles in determining student decisions that are not following their interests and talents. Another obstacle is that teachers have not specifically assessed the interest in talent for student careers before entering school to date. Based on these findings, a solution to determine the level of career maturity of students at this time requires an assessment of interests and talents which can then be used by teachers or parents in making transition programs in which focus is on developing soft skills for children in terms of making appropriate career decisions.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted medical education on multiple levels, and medical students have been forced to adjust to distance learning, altered clinical opportunities, and standardized testing inconsistencies. We sought to identify the effects of these dramatic deviations on medical students’ career plans. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey of medical students between July 13, 2020, and September 9, 2020 in order to assess the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ career decisions. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all variables. Results: Of the 585 eligible medical students, we had a final sample of 76 responses (n=76) (13% response rate). Students felt neutral regarding having more time to explore research projects (Mean ± SD; 3.06 ± 1.18) and hobbies (3.43 ± 1.28). Most survey respondents somewhat disagreed that they considered quitting medical school during the pandemic (1.55 ± 1.10). Students somewhat agreed that they view the field of medicine more positively since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic (3.60 ± 1.09). Respondents somewhat agreed that they would be unable to explore other specialties and find their best fit (3.55 ± 1.32). We found that the minority (4/66, 6%) of students had considered changing their specialty. Students felt neutral in terms of their Step 1 (3.25 ± 1.05) or Step 2 (2.81 ± 1.02) score deterring them from future career opportunities. Conclusions:  Most medical students have experienced barriers in their career pathway as a direct cause of COVID-19 restrictions on medical education, including the ability to explore different specialties to discover their best fit or find a chance to network with mentors. However, despite these obstacles, most students remain committed to medicine.

Student at the University level are grouped into groups of fields according to their choice of interests. Research findings in the field reveal that not a few students have a career decision level that is still not optimal, whereas many as 71% of students still need help regarding career decisions. The existence of this individual intelligence identification application can help students in making career decisions. This is shown by the results of the media use test in the field that 89% of UTY students experienced an increase in career decisions after using Howard Gardner's Multiple intelligence identification application. Thus, the application of multiple intelligence in helping to make career decisions is said to be suitable as a medium to help students make career decisions for UTY students.
