Introduction: The provision of primary care to men by nurses has been relevant, but there are challenges to be overcome. Objective: To analyze the challenges faced by Brazilian nurses in the provision of primary care to men. Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study carried out by including 40 nurses working in the Family Health Strategy of a Basic Health Unit in Northeastern Brazil. Individual in-depth interviews were carried out and analyzed using the Discourse of the Collective Subject (CSD) method, supported by the Praxis Intervention Theory for Nursing in Collective Health – Tipesc. Results: The challenges faced by nurses in the provision of care to men originate in the academy and are transposed into professional practice, manifesting as limitations in the work process, lack of a specific health agenda, difficulties in raising male adherence, and professional demotivation. Conclusion: These challenges significantly affect the development and promotion of men’s health, resulting in the maintenance of the indicators of male morbidity and mortality in Brazil.

Objective: to analyze the meanings attributed by primary care nurses about the fight against homophobia and suicide prevention among homosexuals. Method: descriptive and qualitative research performed with nurses who work in the Family Health Strategy of a city in Northeastern Brazil. A semi-structured script was used for interviews conducted in September and October 2018. The transcribed statements were processed in the IRaMuTeQ software and analyzed by the Descending Hierarchical Classification. Results: four classes were identified, named "Prevention of suicide among homosexuals in primary care", "Public policies focused on the homosexual population", "Reception of the homosexual population in primary care" and "Fighting homophobia in primary care" respectively. The meanings attributed by nurses were anchored in improving the reception of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite and transsexual population (LGBT). Conclusion: It is necessary to recognize the need to invest in studies that reinforce the expansion of humanized care and free of prejudice.

AbstractObjective: to verify the correlation between the rates of hospitalization for primary care-sensitive cardiovascular diseases and the coverage by the Family Health Strategy of residents of the State of Paraná, by regional health divisions, from 2000 to 2011.Method: ecological study developed from data of the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) and the Department of Primary Care of the Ministry of Health. The rates of hospitalization for cardiovascular diseases were correlated with the annual coverage by the Family Health Strategy using Pearson's and Spearman's correlation coefficients.Result: there was a strong and negative correlation in the State of Paraná (r=-0.91; p <0.001) and in most regional health divisions, with the highest correlations observed in the Metropolitan and Toledo (r =-0.93; p<0.001) and Paranaguá (r=-0.92, p<0.001) regional health divisions. Conclusion: the results suggest that the increase in the coverage by the Family Health Strategy was an important factor for decrease in the hospitalizations for cardiovascular conditions among residents of the State of Paraná and in most regional health divisions. Other studies should be performed to analyze the factors and causes in regional health divisions where there was no correlation with increase in the Family Health Strategy.

Introduction One of the main problems of the public health services, in which the family oral health team is included, is access by users to dental treatment in primary care, with particular reference to caries disease. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between family risk, for prioritization of home visits and oral health conditions, with a view to providing evidence about the first indicator for organizing the demand for oral health in the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Method The application of family health is based on Form A of the primary care information database SIAB ("Sistema de Informação de Atenção Básica"), used for registering families with the FHS. Eleven dentists examined the oral health conditions of 1165 persons (608 from 12 to 19 years; and 557 from 35 to 44 years of age), classifying them into six codes from A to F. Multinomial logistic regression was used (α=0.05) to analyze the association between family risk variables and oral health situation. Result There was significant association between family risk and presence of caries disease with treatment needs (OR: 2.08, p<0.0001). Conclusion Persons who have family risk would have twice as much chance of presenting caries disease in comparison with those without risk, corroborating the relevance of this element in organizing the demand for oral health.

Objective: To understand how the professionals of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) develop their actions with people who need mental health care. Methods and results: This is an observational and descriptive research, which predominantly had a qualitative approach. The participants of this research were the professionals of the Reference Teams of the Family Health Strategy of a municipality in the interior of Ceará, in this case, doctors, nurses and dental surgeons. The sample was of twenty participants, which was given by theoretical saturation about the object of study. For the data collection, two techniques were used: semi-structured interview and simple observation. This project was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Ceará (CAAE: 44321015.4.0000.55.34 - Report No.: 1,082,101 / 2015). The data were organized through the technique of the Discourse of the Collective Subject. The results showed that health professionals are not yet ready to promote mental health care in primary care, since they still conceive mental health care from the asylum paradigm and, therefore, act based on the prevalence of diagnosis Psychiatric care, individual care, prescription drugs and renewal of prescriptions. Conclusion: In this regard, we emphasize the need to invest in continuing education for professionals in order to train them for the mental health act. AbstractThe purpose of this article is to carry out a literature review on oral health team in primary care with their inclusion in the Family Health Strategy (FHS). The publications were consulted in national papers, official documents and other publications of Health Ministry (MS). In the literature it is observed that with the creation of the Unified Health System (SUS) a process of health restructuring services in Brazil began. The Primary Care National Policy (PNAB) is the result of several historical facts involved with the development and consolidation of SUS. The Family Health Program (PSF), now called the Family Health Strategy (ESF) was created in 1994 aimed at reorienting health care with new bases, centering family focus and attempting to achieve improvement in quality of life of Brazilians. In 2000, oral health teams were included in the PSF to extend access  of the Brazilian population to health promotion actions, prevention and recovery of oral health, improve health indicators and encourage the reorganization of dentistry in primary care. ESF is a unique strategy in the reorganization of the Brazilian health system and the inclusion of the ESB an important complement in primary care, aiming an integral dental practice. Keywords: Primary Health Care. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze factors associated with the monitoring of actions to control cervical cancer in the Family Health Strategy, in a health region of northeastern Brazil. Method: a cross-sectional study conducted from January to March 2019 by means of interviews with 241 physicians and nurses from the Family Health Teams of the Vitória da Conquista health region, Bahia, Brazil. Adequate monitoring was assessed by the degree of actions taken to promote, prevent and actively seek to control cervical cancer. Three blocks of variables were tested as explanatory: professional characterization and training; organization of the unit and access to cytopathological exam; and care coordination and integration. Poisson regression with robust variance was employed, adopting hierarchical entry of variables. Results: 51.9% (95% CI: 45.5-58.2) of the professionals performed adequate monitoring for the control of cervical cancer. Being a nurse, working in the municipality’s primary care network (≥2 years), disclosure of results collection through posters and other communication means, existence of a high-grade lesion, time to perform the biopsy ≤1 month, and agility in the release of the reports were elements associated to the outcome. Conclusion: even with the extended coverage of the Family Health Strategy, small municipalities in the Northeast have characteristics that impose obstacles to comprehensiveness, favoring the incidence of high-grade lesions and greater difficulty in the control of cervical cancer. Assessing the assistance quality in this level revealed challenges in the regionalized network.

OBJECTIVES: this study aimed to investigate and understand the use of medications by elderly men, their representations and the subsequent practices. METHODS: this is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, in which there participated 17 elderly men, with polypharmacy, and assisted under the Family Health Strategy in the Municipality of Dourados in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). RESULTS: the results show that most of the medications are used for treating cardiovascular disorders. The elderly men develop strategies considering the prescription of these, adapting in line with their own perceptions and meanings. From these tactics emerge representations on youth and old age, in which old age is associated with illness. In addition, practices were observed which sought to associate the use of medications with medicinal plants, re-signifying the process of being ill. Different perspectives of masculinity permeate the use of medications, sometimes reinforcing hegemonic conceptions, and sometimes revealing alternate models of masculinity. The woman is present in the care with the use of the medications. CONCLUSIONS: in this context, the health team, above all that of nursing, must assist the elderly man in his practices of medication, taking into account his representations, his protagonism, and the role of the woman as a support in the care.

Abstract Objectives: to describe the evolution of rates of Hospitalizations for Conditions Susceptible to Primary Care (HCSPCs) in children and adolescents in Minas Gerais, testing the correlation with population coverage of the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Methods: an ecological study analyzing the evolution over time and correlation with rates of coverage of the FHS between 1999 and 2007. Analyses were carried out for three age groups: 0 - 4 years, 5 - 9 years and 10 - 19 years. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used with a level of significance of 5%. Results: the rates of HCSPAs were found to decline during the period studied. In the population aged 0 - 4 years, a decrease of 19.1% was observed. For the 5 - 9 and 10 - 19 year age groups, the rates fell by 0.6% and 18.5% respectively. There was no significant correlation between the decline in rates and increased FHS coverage. The main causes of hospitalization for all age groups were infectious gastroenteritis, bacterial pneumonia and asthma. Conclusions: despite the decrease observed, the lack of correlation between coverage and rates of HCSPA draws attention to the need for improvement in access to and better professional qualification for child and adolescent healthcare.
