Background and Aims: Gustavia sessilis is a neotropical tree, belonging to the Lecythidaceae family, until now known from the Colombian Chocó region only. In this paper, we report G. sessilis for the first time for Central America. Methods: Central American specimens of G. sessilis were collected in 2019 from the Darién Province (eastern Panama). Plant identifications were confirmed by comparing collected specimens with those identified earlier and housed in the MO, PMA, SCZ and UCH herbaria. Type specimens were examined by consulting the JSTOR Global Plants database. The estimations of the conservation status were made based on the criteria of the IUCN.Key results: The record of G. sessilis for Central America is presented, based on a collection made from eastern Panama (Darién Province). Photographs, taxonomic comments, and conservation notes are provided. Additionally, a key for the Central American Gustavia species is included.Conclusions: The distribution of G. sessilis now ranges from Bahía Piñas, Darién Province, Panama to the Condoto river, Chocó region, Colombia, highlighting the importance of the Chocó Panama-Colombia region for the conservation of biodiversity, since it could act as a natural corridor for species. Taking into account the small number of records and the restricted natural range of this species, we recommend considering G. sessilis as an endangered species.

Paepalanthus cordatus is an endangered species described from a single collection which lacks fully developed inflorescences and flowers. Despite the absence of these characters, the species was unambiguously placed in P. sect. Diphyomene, one of the few groups of Paepalanthus with dimerous flowers and which is mainly distributed in central Brazil. In this manuscript, I provide a full description of the species, detailing and illustrating the fully developed inflorescences and flowers for the first time. The spherical umbel-shaped inflorescence is composed of sets of capitula bearing dimerous flowers; the pistillate flowers have dolabriform sepals and bifid stigmatic branches; the staminate ones have an elongated fleshy anthophore. These characters fully match the current circumscription of P. sect. Diphyomene. Based on the specimens recently collected and additional data, the new conservation status for the species is Endangered instead of Critically Endangered, as previously assessed. I also clarify the inadvertent lectotype selection and previous interpretations of the type specimens. Comments on the species distribution, morphology, and ecology, as well as a geographic distribution map, photos, and a detailed illustration are also provided.

Three water mite species of the genus Torrenticola Piersig, 1896 are reported from Foding Mountain National Nature Reserve, Guizhou Province, China. Torrenticola fodingensis Gu & Guo, n. sp. and T. tenuichelicera Gu & Guo, n. sp. are described and illustrated as new to science, and T. nipponica (Enami, 1940) is recorded in China for the first time, with the first description and illustration of its deutonymph. In addition, a key to the species ofTorrenticola in China is presented in this paper. The type specimens of the new species are deposited in Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University, Guiyang, P. R. China (GUGC).

Opuntia soederstromiana is recorded in Colombia for the first time. Botanical explorations were carried out in eastern Colombia sub-xerophytic enclaves, as well as examination of specimens deposited at the herbaria AZUAY, COL, GH, NY, QCA, QCNE, UPTC, and US was made. Lectotypes for the names O. dobbieana (here treated as heterotypic synonym of O. soederstromiana) and O. soederstromiana are designated on specimens preserved at US and NY. A detailed and expanded morphological description of O. soederstromiana, as well as data about type, habitat, conservation status, selected iconographies, and distribution area were given. The number of Opuntia species recorded in Colombia has increased to 10. A key for identification of Opuntia species occurring in the departments of Boyacá and Santander (Colombia) was also provided.

A species in the family Asteraceae, Saussurea bogedaensis, was newly described from Bogeda Mountain in Xinjiang, China and is a critically endangered species in China. Morphological and genetic characteristics confirm the presence of this species in Mongolia, as it was found in Baitag Bogd Mountain (in the Dzungarian Gobi). In addition, the distribution and conservation status of S. bogedaensis are provided.

A revision of the Central American species of the genus Brachiacantha was undertaken to update the knowledge of the Central American species of the genus. Material of several collections was reviewed, using original descriptions and keys, and comparing with the type material. Twenty-five species of the genus Brachiacantha were found in Central American material, including nine new species: B. nubes Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. dentata Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. isthmena Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. aurantiapleura Nestor-Arriola, Solís and Toledo-Hernández, sp. nov., B. invertita Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. papiliona Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. tica Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. hexaspina González, Větrovec and Nestor-Arriola, sp. nov., and B. mimica Nestor-Arriola and Toledo-Hernández, sp. nov. Nomenclatural changes include Brachiacantha gorhami (Weise), comb. nov., B. guatemalensis (Gorham), comb. nov., and Brachiacantha duodecimguttata Leng, syn. nov. for B. lepida Mulsant. The male genitalia of the species B. fenestrata Gorhan, B. octostigma Mulsant, B. aperta Weise, and B. cachensis Gorhan are described and illustrated for the first time. New records include B. indubitabilis Crotch and B. bipartita Mulsant (Costa Rica and Guatemala), B. gorhami (Weise) (El Salvador), and B. cachensis Gorham (Panamá). A key to the species is included.

Habenaria rariflora A.Rich., a species endemic to the southern and western parts of India, is reported for the first time from Gujarat State, western India.  A detailed description and photographs are provided here for easy recognition in the field.  Further, morphology, distribution, habitat, ecology, anatomy of leaf, rarity index, and conservation status of the species are provided.

Descriptions, keys and a checklist are provided for males of 11 ecnomid caddisfly species, all new to Australia. Females of 4 species are also described. These are placed in the genus Austrotinodes Schmid. The new species are: Austrotinodes bibu, A. bifurcatus, A. camurus, A. doota, A. glaya, A. gorom, A. mubar, A. pandus, A. theischingeri, A. varus and A. yalga. Austrotinodes with a total of 38 species previously recorded from South and Central America and southern USA, is here recorded from Australia for the first time.

A taxonomic revision of the Mexican and Central American members of Symplocos is presented. Thirty two species are recognized for the region. Two of the species belong to Symplocos sect. Hopea, and 30 are members of S. sect. Symplocos series Symplocos. The species of S. ser. Symplocos are easily distinguished from those of S. sect. Hopea by their connate petals that are adnate to the androecium distinctly beyond the base (versus connate and adnate at the base only), and filaments that are tangentially flattened in cross section and apically constricted (versus terete and not apically constricted). Of the 32 recognized species, ten are endemic to Mexico, 13 are endemic to Central America, two are shared between Central America and South America, seven are shared between Mexico and Central America, and one is shared among Mexico, Central America, and Cuba. One new species, S. nigridentata, is described from Mexico, and lectotypifications or neotypifications are provided for S. coccinea, S. coccinea var. hirta, S. costaricana, S. hartwegii, S. hartwegii var. opaca, S. limoncillo, S. prionophylla, S. pycnantha, S. schiedeana, S. serrulata, S. speciosa, and S. tomentosa. The revision includes keys, full synonymy, descriptions, illustrations for those species not already illustrated elsewhere, distribution maps and assignment of conservation status for all species, and a complete list of exsiccatae.

Habenaria diphylla (Nimmo) Dalzell is reported for the first time as a new discovery for the flora of Vietnam based on the specimens collected in Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The present study provided the detailed characteristics of the species including detailed photographs of the morphological characteristics, the cross section of the leaf, inflorescence axis and root. Furthermore, the information about the species, including distribution, habitat, ecology and conservation status were also provided.

The chironomid diversity of Central America is virtually underestimated and there is almost no knowledge on the chironomid remains accumulated in surface sediments of lakes. Thus, in the present study we provide information on the larval sub-fossil chironomid fauna from surface sediments in Central American lakes for the first time. Samples from 27 lakes analysed from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras yielded a total of 1,109 remains of four subfamilies. Fifty genera have been identified, containing at least 85 morphospecies. With 45 taxa, Chironominae were the most specious and also most abundant subfamily. Tanypodinae with 14 taxa dominated in about one third of the sites. Orthocladiinae were presented by 24 taxa, but were recorded in 9 sites, being dominant in only one site. Podonominae were collected only in one locality. Head capsules of Heterotrissocladius found in the high elevation lake Magdalena, Guatemala, represent a first record for the Neotropical region. Both relative abundance and species richness of Chironominae and Orthocladiinae showed significant relationship to elevation, while Tanypodinae were indifferent. Hopefully, the list of taxa provided by our study will be a base line for future limnological and paleolimnological investigations using chironomid remains in the region.
