Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan perolehan kosakata dalam pemahaman membaca bahasa Inggris menggunakan Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy (VSS) siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Kalasan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK), yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa kelas VII B SMP Negeri 3 Kalasan tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi, tes, dan wawancara. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif dan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa penerapan strategi VSS dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan perolehan kosakata dalam pemahaman membaca bahasa Inggris. Peningkatan hasil belajar siswa ditunjukkan dengan meningkatnya jumlah siswa yang lulus standar KKM pada siklus I dan II. Nilai rata-rata tes pada siklus I adalah 77,2. Nilai rata-rata tes pada siklus II adalah 82,4. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini adalah bahwa penerapan strategi VSS dapat meningkatkan perolehan kosakata bahasa Inggris dalam pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Kalasan. THE EFFORT TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY ACQUISITION IN ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION USING VSS ON THE STUDENTS OF SMP Abstract This study aims to improve vocabulary acquisition in English reading comprehension using Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy (VSS) on the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Kalasan. This was an action reserch study consisting of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 32 seventh grade students of SMP 3 Kalasan in the academic year of 2013/2014. The data were collected through observation, tests, and interviews and analyzed by means of quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques.The result shows that VSS could be used to improve vocabulary acquisition in English reading comprehension. The increase of students` learning achievement was shown through the increasing number of students who passed the KKM in cycle I and II. The avarage test score in cycle I was 77.2. The average test scores in cycle II was 82.4. The conclusion of this research is that the implementation of VSS could improve the vocabulary acquisition in English reading comprehension on the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Kalasan. This research aims at obtaining data on improving English reading comprehension skill in Grade III, Labschool Primary School, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. The research subjects were the students of Grade III in the second semester of 2014/2015 school academic year. The research model used Kemmis and Mc. Taggard model covering planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data of reading comprehension evaluation showed that in the first cycle 55.5 % of the students gained >75 and in the second cycle 83.33 % of them gained >75. While based on the monitoring data, the activities of the teacher and the students were 55 % in the first meeting of the cycle I and increased to 85 % in the first meeting of the cycle II. Therefore, SQ4R method can improve English reading comprehension skill of the Grade III students in Labschool Primary School, Setiabudi, South Jakarta.

The study aimed to find out whether any influences compossing narrative text to the students writing ability at seventh grade students of STIT Muhammadiyah Tanjung Redeb and to find out the level ability after students compossing narrative text. The  scope of study writing narrative text at the Seventh Grade Students of STIT Muhammadiyah  Tanjung Redeb. The method of this research is quantitative. The population in this study was the whole seventh grade students in STIT Muhammadiyah  Tanjung Redeb, which is enlisted in the academic year of 2014/2015. The seventh grades belong of one class each classes consisted of about 36 students. The writer takes  15 students of them as the research sample (groub B) by using random sampling (namely a method of sample taking by mixly without paying attention to the grade of number of population. The method of data collection used documentation and test and the method of data analys used SPPS 21 Version. The result showed that shows the pre-test score of the class was 11.617 with standard deviation of 3.065 and the post-test score was 17.617 with standard deviation of 2.146. The post-test scores were higher than the pre-test scores.

This research was aimed at investigating the process of improving students’ reading comprehension through Student Team Achievement Division Technique and examining the effect of its implementation toward students’ abilities in reading comprehension. This research was designed in 2 cycles at SMK Prawira Pandeglang Banten in the second semester of 2016/2017 academic year. The focus of this research was the improvement of students’ English reading comprehension, whereas the sub-focus was the process of improving students’ abilities in reading comprehension through the Implementation of Student Team Achievement Division Technique. The data was collected from observations and interviews. The students’ reading comprehension was assessed with multiple choices reading test. The research findings have shown that the implementation of Student Team Achievement Division Technique had improved students’ abilities in comprehend the text from 54.2% in the first cycle become 76.25% in the second cycle. Based on the results, it can be concluded that student team achievement division technique can improve reading comprehension of the students of class X SMK Prawira Pandenglang Banten.

<p>This study compares the English reading comprehension and ethical awareness of 7<sup>th</sup> grade students, when using either a directed reading-thinking activity (DR-TA), or a more traditional approach, involving tales of virtue based on His Majesty the King’s teaching concepts. A randomized control group pretest-posttest design was used for the study, and the data were analyzed using one-way MANOVA and t-tests for dependent samples. The results showed a significant difference in English reading comprehension, and ethical awareness of learning English reading, between both groups at .01 level. Students through the DR-TA method had significantly higher English reading comprehension, and increased ethical awareness, at the .01 level.</p>
