<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><em><strong>Introduction</strong>: Overweight and obesity are conditions resulting from an imbalance of calories in the body that occur in a long time and cause more deaths than underweight. One of factors related is food pattern, which also infl uenced the selection of food outlets. Surabaya is an urban area so it has many types and characteristic s of food outlet. Elementary school (4, 5, 6) do not really depend on their parents, so their food consumption and physical activity began to vary. </em></p><p><em><strong>Objectives</strong>: To identify the relationship between the selection of food outlets and overweight/obesity status of elementary school in Tegalsari district, Surabaya.</em></p><p><em><strong>Methods</strong>: This research used a case-control study design. Samples were 51 children for each group of cases and control and obtained from 11 primary school in the 5 subdistricts in Tegalsari district, Surabaya. Data were obtained by interview, direct observation of food outlets, and interview to select informants about the reasons of selecting food outlets . Quantitative data were processed by bivariate (chi-square) and multivariate (binomial regression) test. </em></p><p><em><strong>Results</strong>: Bivariate test results showed that there were signifi cant relationships between the frequency to the street vendors consumption (OR=4.09, 95% CI:1.60-10.75), frequency of fast food consumption (OR=2.86, 95% CI:1.19-6.94) and snacks (OR=6,05, 95% CI:2.20-17.62), physical activity (OR=3.09, 95% CI:1.28-7.51) and gender (OR=2.70, 95% CI:1.11-6.64) with overweight/obesity status, while frequency of stores (total, supermarket, market, mini-market), frequency of food service place (total, restaurants, fast food restaurants), frequency of vegetable and fruit consumption, and socio-economic status of respondents did not relate signifi cantly. In multivariate analysis, the variables that affected frequency of </em><em>the street vendors were snack consumption, physical activity, sex and total expenditure. </em></p><p><em><strong>Conclusions</strong>: Frequency of the street vendors, fast food consumption, physical activity,gender, and total expenditure had relationship with overweight/obesity status.</em></p><p><br /><strong>KEYWORDS</strong>: <em>food outlet, obesity, overweight</em></p><p><br /><strong>ABSTRAK</strong><br /><em><strong>Latar belakang</strong>: Overweight dan obesitas adalah keadaan akibat ketidakseimbangan kalori dalam tubuh yang terjadi dalam waktu lama dan menjadi penyebab kematian lebih banyak dibanding underweight. Salah satu faktor yang berhubungan langsung adalah pola makan, yang juga dipengaruhi pemilihan food outlet. Surabaya merupakan daerah perkotaan sehingga memiliki jenis dan karakteristik food oulet lebih beragam. Anak usia SD kelas IV, V, VI sudah tidak terlalu bergantung pada orang tua, sehingga konsumsi pangan dan aktivitas fisiknya mulai beragam. </em></p><p><em><strong>Tujuan</strong>: Mengetahui hubungan antara pemilihan food outlet dan status berat badan lebih pada anak usia sekolah dasar di Kecamatan Tegalsari, Surabaya.</em></p><p><em><strong>Metode</strong>: Penelitian menggunakan desain studi kasus-kontrol. Sampel penelitian adalah 51 anak untuk masing-masing kelompok kasus dan kontrol dari 11 SD di 5 Kelurahan di Kecamatan Tegalsari, Surabaya. Data diperoleh dengan wawancara, observasi langsung ke food outlet dan wawancara alasan pemilihan food outlet pada informan terpilih. Data kuantitatif diolah dengan uji bivariat (chi-square) dan multivariariat (regresi binomial).</em></p><p><em><strong>Hasil</strong>: Uji bivariat menyatakan terdapat hubungan signifi kan antara frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima (OR=4,09, 95% CI:1,60-10,75), frekuensi konsumsi fast food (OR=2,86, 95% CI:1,19-6,94) dan kudapan (OR=6,05, 95% CI:2,20-17,62), aktivitas fi sik (OR=3,09, 95% CI:1,28-7,51) serta jenis kelamin (OR=2,70, 95% CI:1,11-6,64) dengan berat badan lebih, sedangkan frekuensi ke food store (total, supermarket, pasar, mini-market), frekuensi ke food service place total, rumah makan, restoran fast food), pola konsumsi sayur buah, dan sosial ekonomi responden tidak berhubungan signifi kan. Pada analisis multivariat, variabel yang mempengaruhi frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima adalah frekuensi konsumsi kudapan, aktivitas fisik, jenis kelamin, dan total pengeluaran.</em></p><p><em><strong>Kesimpulan</strong>: Frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima, konsumsi kudapan, aktivitas fisik, jenis kelamin, dan total pengeluaran berhubungan dengan status berat badan lebih.</em></p><p><strong>KATA KUNCI</strong>: <em>food outlet, overweight, obesitas</em></p>

<p>This study aims to determine the relation between physical activity, sleep duration, breakfast habits and fast food consumption habits at school-age chidren. This is a quantitative study using cross sectional design. The study was conducted in SDS Kartika VIII-5 Jakarta, as many as 102 fourth and fifth grade students were involved. The sampling technique used for this study was stratified sampling technique. The data collection instrument used questionnaire and interview. The data obtained were then analyzed by Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that 63,7% of children were overweight. Bivariate result using Chi-Square statistical test showed that a significant relationship between physical activity (p = 0,003), sleep duration (p = 0,046), fast food habits (p = 0,035). There was a significant relation between physical activity, sleep duration, and fast food consumption habits with the prevalence of overweight.</p>

We examined explanatory pathways for the association between spatial access to fast food outlets and body weight in 5,076 European adults (18+). The total effect of spatial access to fast food outlets on self-reported weight status was examined using regression analyses accounting for clustering at the neighborhood level. Perceived availability and usage of fast food outlets, and fast food consumption, were considered as potential mediators and age, gender, socioeconomic status, and urban region as potential moderators. Spatial access to fast food outlets was not significantly related to weight status. Spatial access to fast food outlets was associated with perceptions about and usage of fast food outlets, and this was in turn associated with greater reported fast food consumption and unhealthier weight status. We found limited evidence for mediation effects and no evidence for effect modification.

Abstrak Gizi lebih atau overweight pada saat sekarang merupakan masalah kesehatan di seluruh dunia, mempengaruhi tidak hanya negara maju tapi juga negara berkembang. Survei obesitas yang dilakukan akhir-akhir ini pada anak remaja siswa/siswi SLTP di Yogyakarta menunjukkan bahwa 7,8% remaja di perkotaan dan 2% remaja di daerah pedesaan mengalami obesitas. Pada tahun 2011 berdasarkan hasil penjaringan peserta didik TA 2011/2012 di Kota Semarang pada remaja usia 16 tahun dari 16.579 anak sebesar 3,71% berstatus gizi lebih. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui apakah ada hubungan antara serat dan fast food dengan gizi lebih. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kota Semarang pada remaja sejumlah 65 orang. Variabel bebas penelitian ini adalah pola konsumsi fast food dan serat, sedangkan variabel terikatnya adalah status gizi. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah chi square. Hasilnya, 58,5% responden mengalami malnutrisi yang terdiri dari underweight, overweight, obesitas I, dan obesitas II; sementara 41,5% responden berstatus gizi normal. Sehingga bisa dikatakan bahwa remaja bermasalah dengan status gizi. Konsumsi fast food (p=0,21) dan serat (p=0,43) tidak berhubungan dengan overweight. Sebagian besar responden sering mengkonsumsi fast food (95,4%) dan kurang mengkonsumsi serat (84,6%).   Abstract Overweight is a health problem worldwide, affecting not only developed countries but also developing countries. A recent obesity survey in junior high school students in Yogyakarta showed that 7.8% of teenagers in urban areas and 2% of adolescents in rural areas were obese. In 2011, 3.71% from 16,579 adolescents aged 16 in Semarang were over nutrition. This study aimed to determine if fiber and fast food consumption were correlated with over nutrients. This research was conducted in Semarang with 65 adolescent students as respondents. The independent variables were the pattern of fast food and fiber consumption, while the dependent variable is nutritional status. The data were analyzed with chi square test. The result showed that 58.5% of respondents were malnourished, which consists of underweight, overweight, obese I and obese II; while 41.5% of them were normal in nutrition status. It could be said that the teenagers had a problem with nutritional status. Fast food consumption (p = 0.21) and fiber consumption (p = 0.43) were not significantly associated with overweight. Most respondents consume fast food frequently (95.4%) and consume fiber less (84.6%).

Obesity is a disorder that result from excessive body fat accumulation. Etiology of obesity is not clear, but generally obesity caused by imbalance of intake and energy utilization which energy intake is more than energy utilization. Alteration of consumption pattern and low physical activity at daily life also determine body fat accumulation that cause obesity.This research aimed to analyze physical activity and fast food consumption as risk factors toward obesity at 1st Senior High School of Kendari. This is an observational stuy with case control design. This research’s sample consist of 47th cases and 47th controls that selected by random sampling. Data was analyzed by using Odds Ratio. This research’s instruments were scale, microtoice and questionnaire for physical actovity and fast food consumption among students at age 16-18 years old at 1st Senior High School of Kendari 2018.Result of this research shown that physical activity is a risk factor for obesity (OR = 8,181 ; 95% CI = 3,181-21,035) and fast food consumption is a risk factor for obesity (OR = 14,578 ; 95% CI = 5,083-41,809) among students of 1st Senior High School of Kendari. This research’s conclusion are low physical activity and fast food consumption more than 3 times for a week were risk factors for obesity among students at 1st Senior High School of Kendari.

Abstract Objectives While a growing body of literature acknowledges the role that close relationships have on nutrition outcomes, little research has assessed how significant others impact health during youth. This study assessed how being in a relationship during freshman year is associated with fast food consumption, restaurant meals, physical activity (PA), and alcohol intake. Methods The current study is a secondary analysis from SPARC (Social impact of Physical Activity and nutRition in College), a longitudinal study of nutrition and weight outcomes among college freshman. Participants (n = 535; 73% female; 50% non-white) completed web-based surveys during the 2015–2016 academic year at two different time points: August 2015 (T1) and November 2015 (T2). Mixed generalized logistic regression, adjusted for participant sociodemographic and clustering of students within residence halls, examined the association between fast food consumption, restaurant meals, PA, and alcohol intake at T2, after controlling for T1 relationship status and T1 eating out, PA, and alcohol intake. Results At T1, 34% of participants were in a relationship, 23% of participants reported fast food consumption &gt;2 days/week, 31% reported restaurant meals &gt;1 day/week, 26% of participants reported high levels of PA, and 43% reported weekly alcohol intake. Participants in a relationship at T1 were significantly more likely to eat in a restaurant at T2, after controlling for T1 restaurant use (OR = 1.78, P = 0.009). No association was observed with relationship status and fast food consumption (OR = 1.36, P = 0.226), physical activity (OR = 1.14, P = 0.588), or alcohol consumption (OR = 0.67, P = 0.096). Conclusions Findings suggest romantic relationships are associated with greater restaurant use in college freshman, but none of the other assessed behaviors. Future research is needed to assess the extent to which being in a relationship influences eating behavior among college freshman, and how it may relate to weight changes.
