<p>This study aims to determine the relation between physical activity, sleep duration, breakfast habits and fast food consumption habits at school-age chidren. This is a quantitative study using cross sectional design. The study was conducted in SDS Kartika VIII-5 Jakarta, as many as 102 fourth and fifth grade students were involved. The sampling technique used for this study was stratified sampling technique. The data collection instrument used questionnaire and interview. The data obtained were then analyzed by Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that 63,7% of children were overweight. Bivariate result using Chi-Square statistical test showed that a significant relationship between physical activity (p = 0,003), sleep duration (p = 0,046), fast food habits (p = 0,035). There was a significant relation between physical activity, sleep duration, and fast food consumption habits with the prevalence of overweight.</p>

Short sleep duration among children and adolescents has been reported to be associated with elevated BMI and other adverse health outcomes. Food choices are one proposed mechanism through which this association may occur. In the present study, we examined whether self-reported habitual sleep duration is associated with vegetable and fruit consumption and fast food consumption. Using cross-sectional data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (n13 284), we estimated three nested logistic regression models for two outcome variables: daily vegetable and fruit consumption and previous week's fast food consumption. The adjusted models included demographic and social/behavioural covariates. Self-reported habitual short sleep duration ( < 7 h/night) was associated with reduced odds of vegetable and fruit consumption compared with the recommended sleep duration (>8 h/night) (OR 0·66,P <0·001), even after adjusting for demographic and social/behavioural factors (OR 0·75,P <0·001). Short sleep duration was also associated with increased odds of fast food consumption (OR 1·40,P <0·001) even after adjustment (OR 1·20,P <0·05). Food choices are significantly associated with sleep duration and may play an important role in the mediation of the association between sleep and health among adolescents.

 Background: Adolescent have the characteristics of wanting to be accepted by their peers. Peer influence can also affect consumption, one of which is consumption of fast food, either foreign or domestic. High peer influence has the possibility to make fast food consumption high.Objectives: This research was conducted to analyze the correlation between peer influence and consumption of fast food, foreign and domestic.Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design on 136 adolescents in SMAN 6 Surabaya who were selected by clustered random sampling. Data collected were the respondent's background: gender, age, and daily pocket money. Respondents also filled a peer influence scale questionnaire and a food frequency questionnaire about fast food.Results: Most respondents had low peer influence (52.21%). The chi square correlation test revealed that there was a significant correlation between peer influence and consumption of French fries (p=0.016), beef burger (p=0.029), chicken burger (p=0.025), and waffle (p=0.014). There was no significant correlation between peer influence and any food from domestic fast food group.Conclusions: There was a correlation between several types of foreign fast food consumption and peer influence. Types of fast food that had a correlation with peer influence were French fries, beef burger, chicken burger, and waffle. Whereas no food from domestic fast food groups had a significant correlation with peer influence. This revealed that peer influence only affects certain fast food that has prestige value.ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Remaja memiliki ciri-ciri ingin diterima oleh kelompok sosialnya (peer). Peer influence juga bisa memengaruhi konsumsi, salah satunya konsumsi makanan cepat saji, modern maupun tradisional. Peer influence yang tinggi memiliki kemungkinan untuk membuat konsumsi makanan cepat saji remaja menjadi tinggi.Tujuan: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara peer influence dan konsumsi makanan cepat saji, modern maupun tradisionalMetode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional analitik dengan studi cross sectional pada 136 remaja di SMAN 6 Surabaya yang dipilih secara clustered random sampling. Data yang dikumpulkan adalah latar belakang responden berupa tinggi badan, berat badan, jenis kelamin, usia, serta uang saku harian. Selain itu, responden diminta mengisi peer influence scale questionnaire dan food frequency questionnaire.Hasil: Sebagain besar responden berstatus gizi gemuk (14%) dan memiliki peer influence sedang (50%). Uji korelasi chi square mengungkapkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara peer influence dan konsumsi spaghetti (p=0,007), fried chicken (p=0,009), french fries (p=0,008), beef burger (p=0,018), chicken burger (p=0,009), dan dimsum (p=0,046). Tidak ada makanan dari kelompok makanan cepat saji tradisional yang memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan peer influence.Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara konsumsi beberapa jenis makanan cepat saji modern dan peer influence. Jenis makanan cepat saji yang memiliki korelasi dengan peer influence yaitu spaghetti, fried chicken, french fries, beef burger, chicken burger, dan dimsum. Sedangkan tidak ada makanan dari kelompok makanan cepat saji tradisional yang memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan peer influence. Hal ini mengungkapkan bahwa peer influence hanya memengaruhi makanan cepat saji tertentu yang memiliki nilai prestige.

<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><em><strong>Introduction</strong>: Overweight and obesity are conditions resulting from an imbalance of calories in the body that occur in a long time and cause more deaths than underweight. One of factors related is food pattern, which also infl uenced the selection of food outlets. Surabaya is an urban area so it has many types and characteristic s of food outlet. Elementary school (4, 5, 6) do not really depend on their parents, so their food consumption and physical activity began to vary. </em></p><p><em><strong>Objectives</strong>: To identify the relationship between the selection of food outlets and overweight/obesity status of elementary school in Tegalsari district, Surabaya.</em></p><p><em><strong>Methods</strong>: This research used a case-control study design. Samples were 51 children for each group of cases and control and obtained from 11 primary school in the 5 subdistricts in Tegalsari district, Surabaya. Data were obtained by interview, direct observation of food outlets, and interview to select informants about the reasons of selecting food outlets . Quantitative data were processed by bivariate (chi-square) and multivariate (binomial regression) test. </em></p><p><em><strong>Results</strong>: Bivariate test results showed that there were signifi cant relationships between the frequency to the street vendors consumption (OR=4.09, 95% CI:1.60-10.75), frequency of fast food consumption (OR=2.86, 95% CI:1.19-6.94) and snacks (OR=6,05, 95% CI:2.20-17.62), physical activity (OR=3.09, 95% CI:1.28-7.51) and gender (OR=2.70, 95% CI:1.11-6.64) with overweight/obesity status, while frequency of stores (total, supermarket, market, mini-market), frequency of food service place (total, restaurants, fast food restaurants), frequency of vegetable and fruit consumption, and socio-economic status of respondents did not relate signifi cantly. In multivariate analysis, the variables that affected frequency of </em><em>the street vendors were snack consumption, physical activity, sex and total expenditure. </em></p><p><em><strong>Conclusions</strong>: Frequency of the street vendors, fast food consumption, physical activity,gender, and total expenditure had relationship with overweight/obesity status.</em></p><p><br /><strong>KEYWORDS</strong>: <em>food outlet, obesity, overweight</em></p><p><br /><strong>ABSTRAK</strong><br /><em><strong>Latar belakang</strong>: Overweight dan obesitas adalah keadaan akibat ketidakseimbangan kalori dalam tubuh yang terjadi dalam waktu lama dan menjadi penyebab kematian lebih banyak dibanding underweight. Salah satu faktor yang berhubungan langsung adalah pola makan, yang juga dipengaruhi pemilihan food outlet. Surabaya merupakan daerah perkotaan sehingga memiliki jenis dan karakteristik food oulet lebih beragam. Anak usia SD kelas IV, V, VI sudah tidak terlalu bergantung pada orang tua, sehingga konsumsi pangan dan aktivitas fisiknya mulai beragam. </em></p><p><em><strong>Tujuan</strong>: Mengetahui hubungan antara pemilihan food outlet dan status berat badan lebih pada anak usia sekolah dasar di Kecamatan Tegalsari, Surabaya.</em></p><p><em><strong>Metode</strong>: Penelitian menggunakan desain studi kasus-kontrol. Sampel penelitian adalah 51 anak untuk masing-masing kelompok kasus dan kontrol dari 11 SD di 5 Kelurahan di Kecamatan Tegalsari, Surabaya. Data diperoleh dengan wawancara, observasi langsung ke food outlet dan wawancara alasan pemilihan food outlet pada informan terpilih. Data kuantitatif diolah dengan uji bivariat (chi-square) dan multivariariat (regresi binomial).</em></p><p><em><strong>Hasil</strong>: Uji bivariat menyatakan terdapat hubungan signifi kan antara frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima (OR=4,09, 95% CI:1,60-10,75), frekuensi konsumsi fast food (OR=2,86, 95% CI:1,19-6,94) dan kudapan (OR=6,05, 95% CI:2,20-17,62), aktivitas fi sik (OR=3,09, 95% CI:1,28-7,51) serta jenis kelamin (OR=2,70, 95% CI:1,11-6,64) dengan berat badan lebih, sedangkan frekuensi ke food store (total, supermarket, pasar, mini-market), frekuensi ke food service place total, rumah makan, restoran fast food), pola konsumsi sayur buah, dan sosial ekonomi responden tidak berhubungan signifi kan. Pada analisis multivariat, variabel yang mempengaruhi frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima adalah frekuensi konsumsi kudapan, aktivitas fisik, jenis kelamin, dan total pengeluaran.</em></p><p><em><strong>Kesimpulan</strong>: Frekuensi datang ke pedagang kaki lima, konsumsi kudapan, aktivitas fisik, jenis kelamin, dan total pengeluaran berhubungan dengan status berat badan lebih.</em></p><p><strong>KATA KUNCI</strong>: <em>food outlet, overweight, obesitas</em></p>

Background: Most women in Indonesia have experienced dysmenorrhea (54.89%). One of the factors that influence dysmenorrhea is low preventive measures carried out by women such as lack of exercise activity, genetic background, and consumption of fast food. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the correlation between exercise activity, genetic background, and fast food consumption and dysmenorrhea. Method: This study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional research design. The research population included the students of Public Health Faculty who had menstruated. The samples were 108 respondents chosen by random sampling technique. The variables examined in this study were genetic background, exercise activity, and fast food consumption and the occurrence of dysmenorrhea. Data collection was carried out in February 2019. The research location was at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis based on the chi-square test results. Result: The prevalence of dysmenorrhea experienced by students of Public Health Faculty was 65.70%. The test results showed no correlation between exercise activity and dysmenorrhea (p = 0.47), there was a correlation between dysmenorrhea and genetic background (p = 0.01) and there was no correlation between consumption of fast food and dysmenorrhea (p = 0.53). Conclusion: The study shows the there is a correlation between genetic background and dysmenorrhea. On the other hand, there is no correlation between exercise activity and the consumption of fast food with the occurrence of dysmenorrhea.

Overweight occurs because of excessive energy intake stored in the form of fat tissue. The national prevalence of overweight and obesity among children aged 5­-12 years old was 10.8% and 8.8%, respectively. Several factors are responsible for increasing the prevalence of overweight, including food consumption and physical activity. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between fast-food consumption and physical activity with the overweight occurrence among school-aged children in Cakung Payangan, Bekasi. This is a cross-sectional study with a total of 80 students recruited through a simple random sampling method. There was a significant association between fast-food consumption and overweight (p = 0.013, CI 95% = 1,420 – 10,977). Also, there was a significant association between physical activity and overweight (p = 0.027, CI 95% = 1,023 – 74,825). Frequent fast-food consumption and mild physical activity have a significant relationship with overweight occurrence among school-aged children.

Modernization has brought negative impact to the public, including in adolescents directly or indirectly, that has directed the diversion a healthy diet. Adolescent are required to more selective in choosing food products consumed. Fast food is food containing high in calories, fat and low fibers. To know the relationship of socioeconomic status with fast food consumption levels among adolescents in Mataram city. The study was observational studies with cross sectional design. The samples as many as 373 students. Dependent variable was the consumption of fast food, and the independent variable was socioeconomic status. The instruments used were questionnaire and FFQ. Data analysis by means of descriptive, and Chi Square test (χ²). Based on the duration per week, there was a relationship between socio-economic status with the western fast food consumption levels (p = 0.00) and local fast food (p = 0.00). Moreover, adolescents with prosperous socioeconomic status have a higher consumption of fast food was very high with a duration of 1 time/week and 2 times/week. While based on the frequency, there was a significant relationship between socioeconomic status with western fast food consumption levels with p = 0.00 and local fast food with p = 0.00 influence of friends was significant with western fast food consumption levels in adolescents (p = 0.002). The habit of eating at home (lunch with p = 0.007) and the effect of mass media was significant with the local fast food consumption levels (p = 0.04). Adolescents with a prosperous socioeconomic status have greater opportunities to consume fast food than in adolescents with socioeconomic status were less prosperous.

Various factors causing premarital sexual behavior are loosening of supervision from parents and schools, lack of faith in God, low education in religious values, social influences, easy to absorb western cultures that are currently rife in Indonesia, mass media as well as the internet that provides a variety of positive and negative information. This type of research is a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional approach, which was conducted in February 2017. The population of this study was students of class XII Natural Sciences and Social Sciences of Kartini High School in Batam City, totaling 111 people. Sampling with random sampling technique, as many as 84 people. Data obtained from filling out the questionnaire to respondents, then the data were analyzed univariately and bivariate by computer using the Chi-Square Statistical Test. The results showed that students who had good knowledge about premarital sex were 32 students (38.1%), students who had sufficient knowledge about premarital sex were 24 students (28.6d%) and students who had less knowledge about premarital sex as many as 28 students (33.3%). The results showed that students who had good attitudes about premarital sex were 44 students (52.4%), students who had sufficient attitudes about premarital sex were 21 (25.0%) and students who had fewer attitudes about premarital sex were 19 students (22.6%). Statistical test results show (P = 0,000) meaning that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of adolescents about premarital sex in Batam City Kartini High School in 2018. From the results of the study it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between Premarital Sex Knowledge and Premarital Sexual Attitudes in Kartini High School students in Batam City in 2018.

Background: Medical education is stressful throughout the whole course. Due to the medical curriculum and the examination pattern leads to psychological stress. Stressful condition leads to irregularity in diet, frequent fast food consumption & lack of exercise, each being considered as an important risk factor leading to overweight and obesity. Hence, this study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of obesity, overweight and weight awareness among the medical students. Objectives: Determination of BMI status of undergraduate medical students to evaluate their weight awareness, prevalence of overweight and obesity and also find out the relationship of the following risk factors with obesity & overweight; i) Opinion about self-image, ii) Physical activity and iii) Frequency of fast food consumption. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted on 131 preclinical medical students of Ad-din Akij Medical College, Khulna from January 2018 to April 2018. Height and weight of 131 preclinical students were measured and Body Mass Index was calculated and categorized according to WHO criteria. Results: Out of 131 students 62% come under normal weight category, 21% come under overweight category, 10% come under obese category and 7% come under underweight category. Conclusion: Overweight is a rising problem among the medical students. Sedentary life style and frequency of fast food consumption was high among the overweight and obese students. Motivation/Background: In 2001, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) accounted for 60 percent of 56 million deaths worldwide and 47% of global burden of disease. In all countries, evidence suggested underlying determinants of NCDs were largely same. These include increased consumption of rapidly processed energy-dense nutrient-poor foods high in fat, sugar, salt and reduced levels of physical activity. The objective of this study was to determine prevalence, pattern and determinants of fast foods consumption among school age children in Jos metropolis. Method: In this study, we used descriptive cross-sectional study and included 347 mothers or care givers with children age 6 to 12 years in our sample size. We applied structured interviewer-administered questionnaire during data collection and analyzed the data with SPSS version 21.0. Results: Prevalence of fast food consumption among school age children in Jos metropolis in the last one week is 91.1%. Knowledge of health risk associated with fast food consumption was 86.5%. Flour based fast food were most commonly consumed. We established an association between meal skipping, fast food advertisement and fast food consumption. Conclusions: We recommend the need to focus public enlightenment on health risk associated with fast food consumption among school age children. Likewise, children should be encouraged to carry home-made food to school and legislation on fast food advertisement directed at children should be enacted.

AIM: This study aimed to analyze the description of Indonesian undergraduate students’ food consumption patterns during the COVID-19 period. METHODS: The design used was cross-sectional with random sampling technique. The correlation test was Chi-Square and analyzed using univariate. The respondents involved were 17–24 years old with 5924 persons; active undergraduate students. Questionnaires were distributed using Google form. RESULTS: The results indicated a relationship between gender and major, education level, social status, and funds source (p = 0.000). However, sex and residence did not correlate (p = 0.16). The same was revealed between gender with consumption patterns, carbohydrates, animal protein, vegetable protein, vegetables, fruit, snacks, water, and supplements. CONCLUSION: Overall, during the new normal period of pandemic COVID-19 era, student food consumption patterns could be categorized as healthier lifestyle changes. Thus, the undergraduate students are suggested to maintain a diverse and balanced diet to boost their immunity optimally.
