Abstract: In modern context the connectivity of transport system is very important and necessary in an urban and smart city. Due to more population and more vehicles in an urban city, it is not very easy to travel from one location to another location in smooth manner. Availability of different kind of transport mediums like metro, buses, auto, ola, uber etc. helps in travelling within the city by covering different locations. Metro is considered as the primarily best and easy medium for travelling with least congestion and stoppage points. After metro, bus and auto are the secondary public transport medium having frequently used by public on daily basis. Other private transit modes are also available like Ola, Uber and Rapido, who charge according to the travel length, journey time and availability of their service in that area. But if we compare all of them in terms of availability, reliability, speed and smoothness, metro is taken as best and safe way to travel without any hesitation. The connectivity of Lucknow city which is the capital of Uttar Pradesh, India, is having good connectivity in terms of metro and bus medium. But beside metro, due to lack of infrastructure and good management it is sometimes difficult to move from one part of the city to another part by other public transport system. This study will assess the different parameters of public transport system and it will provide the correlation between them. The efficient functioning of the transport system in each area requires that account be taken of the fact that each journey consists of a chain of elementary movements on foot or by means of trans­port. The construction of an effective public transport system is one of the methods to reduce traffic congestion, especially in city centres. The inter-change synchronization is the way to increase the efficiency of public transport. The purpose of the paper is to present the results of research on the intensity of pedestrian traffic at interchanges as a function of time in the city of Radom. Pedestrian movements play an important role not only in the vicinity of transport nodes. Their production and quality also determine the assessment of these movements as one of the stages of production of combined movements. The tendency to pedestrian travel (or lack of it) also affects public and individual transport journeys. Based on the survey conducted in households, the structure of movement (size and motivations) of the inhabitants of Radom is given.

Availability of rail transport is limited, due to lack of infrastructure or unprofitable. Therefore the linkage between rail and bus network are the basis of an efficient public transport system. From a passenger’s perspective, the most important role plays spatial integration (in the context of transfer). The aim of the article is to evaluate the integration of the main railway and bus stations. The study is based on the voivodship cities, which are the most important transport nodes in this country. Author focus on the location of stations in the city space, their distance, but also the spatial barriers that may hinder a possible transfer.

Public transportation is one of the sustainable form of transportation which provides mobility options for the people. The public transport services are very basic need of people’s lives, especially in developing world. It is the basic means for mobility of a large percent of people and hence it is the driving force of economic and social life. Quality of service, characterized by the Level-of-Service (LoS) is one of the major factors determining the demand for public transport. This study tries to determine the city-wide Level-of-Service provided by the public transport system using the service level benchmarks as a case study of Trivandrum city. The indicators for determining the Level-of-Service used in the study are presence of organized public transport system, availability or extend of public transport supply, service coverage, average waiting time, level of comfort in public transport and the fleet availability. This approach can be used to determine the LoS at the city-level and thus provides a measure for identifying the public transport quality of an urban area.

Cities in the developing world are growing both geographically and demographically. Thisgrowth has increased pressure on services, including the public transport systems used bythe majority of people. In the last two decades public transport provision has undergoneconsiderable changes. Concomitant to these changes there has been debate on the formof public transport to be operated. Such debate has been informal, general, and at timesacademic, and therefore not able to provide substantive understanding of the views of keystakeholders. Zimbabwe has had an explosion of informal transport activity in the formof minibuses, and decision makers appear to be in a policy dilemma because of a need tostrike a balance between maximising passenger welfare whilst protecting the livelihoods ofindigenous minibus operators and striving to build an efficient and environmentally soundurban transport system. Critical questions for policy dialogue in this conundrum include,inter alia: How do stakeholders perceive the current public transport system? How can publictransport be sustainably provided? This study seeks to answer these questions using a casestudy of Harare. A qualitative research approach blended with some quantitative aspects wasused. Initial steps involved the identification and clustering of key urban public passengertransport stakeholders, followed by structured and unstructured interviews. Although thereis lack of consensus on the form of public transport that the City of Harare should adopt, thereis a strong view that a mass transit system is the backbone of sustainable public transport.

Article focuses on analyzing the functioning of the night public transport in Łodź. The study included data on the distribution of the stops of the local carrier, which are operated by night lines, data on vehicle journeys within the individual lines as well as data on the location and age structure of the inhabitants of Łodź. Use of the said information and the application of research methods related to the accessibility of analyzes allowed to determine its spatial differentiation in relation to the point elements of night public transport system of the city, the main hub and the number and age structure of the inhabitants of the city enjoying the night-bus connections.

Monitoring speeds and identifying problem areas are essential for any public transport system because of the direct impact on its operating costs and on users’ travel time. This study generated a tool that identified, quantified, and displayed operational bottlenecks of bus operation in a city. The model was applied to the public transport system in Santiago, Chile, which faced a steady decline in operating speed. It was possible to identify locations with the most serious problems; this factor allowed transit authorities to focus their efforts on the areas that needed it the most. In addition, it was found that problems were concentrated in certain sectors of the city, including the central business district and intersections where the radial axis roads encountered the city’s central ring road. Once a problem is identified, it is essential to conduct site visits and combine the findings of this research with other sources of information to find the cause of the problem and propose solutions.
