The article outlines the problem of traumatism, which is analyzed from the viewpoint of the socio-medical aspect. The peculiarities of the impact of traumatism on the professional sports career were revealed through the analysis of the elite athletes’ biographies (n = 296 respondents). The research was carried out applying the qualitative research design (biographical research). The assessment of life narratives of high-performance athletes performing on the world arena was carried out applying the criterion of traumatism and its impact on the athletes’ lives ( the athletes’ biographies are accessible through open-source Internet resources). The data obtained in the research framework revealed the possible trajectories of the impact of traumatism on the course of the professional sporting career: the process of career stagnation, professional success, the process of completion/ termination of a sporting career. The career stagnation was observed among all the respondents, which is predetermined by the rehabilitation process they had to go through. Based on the data obtained in the research framework, the conclusion can be drawn that reintegration into elite sports is primarily based on the resource potential of the athlete: the resources of the family/ the loved ones, the athlete’s own capacity, as well as the state support provision. The possible trajectories of professional aging were identified, namely, high resource capacity, the reduction/loss of resource capacity (disability), zeroing of resource capacity (lethal outcome). In addition, the data showed that the potential trajectory for the reintegration was usually identified within the two directions: firstly, sports and physical culture; secondly, other professional spheres. It should also be highlighted that professional aging puts forward the issues related to social security of high-performance athletes worldwide. Therefore, the issue of reviewing the reintegration criteria into the education system or professional and labour market upon the completion of the sporting career is of highest topicality provided that it would positively impact both the positive capacity of the population group and the prestige of high-performance sports worldwide. The research results allow drawing the conclusion that the accumulated resources in the course of building and implementing a professional sports career have a positive impact on the duration of the professional age of a representative of elite sports, in its turn, providing the possibility to easily adjust to the new life upon the completion of the sports career.

Background: Alpha-tocopherol is a potent antioxidant involved in sperm protection particularly during cryopreservation. However, its poor solubility limits the optimal protection in aqueous solutions. Objective: The aim of this study was to enhance the solubility of α-tocopherol by the use of liposomes. Methods: The experimental approach consisted to load vitamin E in liposomes prepared by ethanol injection method and the optimization carried out by an experimental design. The optimum solution was characterized by high performance liquid chromatography and scanning electron microscope. Finely, the impact on sperm motility protection was studied by the freezing technic of bovine sperm. Results: The optimum solution was obtained when using 10.9 mg/ml of phospholipids, 1.7 mg/ml of cholesterol and 2 mg/ml of vitamin E. The liposome size was 99.86 nm, providing 78.47% of loaded efficiency. The results showed also a significant positive impact on sperm motility after hours of preservation. Conclusion: In conclusion, the current results showed the interest of liposome preparation as an alternative to enhance vitamin E solubility and to protect spermatozoa during cryopreservation.

This paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the issue the link between organizational cultures on the job performance in the Gulf Council countries companies. The main goal of the paper is to examine empirically the determinants of organizational cultures (structure, strategy, leadership, and high-performance work), and their impacts on job performance. The relevance of the decision of this scientific problem is that organizational cultures are a relevant problem for the companies in the Gulf Council countries. The Investigation of the topic of organizational cultures and the job performance in the paper is carried out in the following logical sequence: The methodological tool of this contribution tries to measure the effect of organizational cultures, structure, strategy, leadership, and high-performance work on job performance. The main purpose of the research is focused on the empirical approach justified by the use of the structural equations. The paper presents the results of an empirical analysis which showed that the effect of organizational cultures, structure, strategy, leadership, and high-performance work exerts positive relationships on job performance. The results found suggest that structure and strategy as indicators of organizational cultures, job performance with a high-performance work practice. The results showed a positive impact between the variables and implied that organizational cultures in the Gulf Council countries companies have a positive and significant relationship with job performance. The results confirm the existence of positive relationship as significant between structure, strategy and job performance in the Gulf Council countries companies. The research empirically confirms and theoretically proves that organizational cultures are significant relationships with job performance. The results of the research can be useful for the Gulf Council countries companies to promote the organizational cultures for good job performance. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate how the public views two corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives practiced by a Major League Baseball (MLB) team. This study examined the role of perceived fit between an MLB team and its two CSR initiatives in shaping consumers’ intentions to support the team’s CSR efforts.Design/methodology/approachA between-subjects experiment (n=207) was conducted using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk to examine the impact of CSR fit on consumers’ patronage intentions.FindingsThe results of this study showed that consumers’ perceived fit between sports teams and their CSR has a positive impact on consumers’ patronage intentions. The values-driven and strategic-driven attributions of the team’s CSR initiatives were positively associated with their patronage intentions.Research limitations/implicationsBoth the values-driven and strategic-driven attributions were positively associated with consumers’ patronage intentions, while previous studies suggested negative association between strategic-driven attributions and consumer behaviors. The findings indicate that consumers do not view professional sports teams’ strategic-driven CSR initiatives to be negative business practices. This could result from the fact that CSR initiatives have become a prevalent and expected organizational practice.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature of CSR within the context of professional sports teams as corporations. The findings of this study suggest that professional sports teams could benefit from CSR initiatives when the teams select social causes with which consumers could infer values-driven and strategic-driven attributions.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of employee’s perception of HRM system strength and high performance work practices based on ability enhancing, motivation focused and opportunity creating practices on affective commitment. Furthermore, this paper explores the mediation effect of the line manager's ability, motivation, and opportunity to implement human resource practices between the high performance work practices, perception of HRM system strength, and affective commitment. This study is based on a quantitative research design. Data collected from 761 bank employees from different branches of private banks in Pakistan. A structural equational modeling technique was used to analyse the data. The result supported the positive impact of ability, motivation, and opportunity enhancing high performance work practices and HRM system strength on affective commitment. However, the mediation results indicated partial acceptance. The findings of this paper are expected to encourage researchers to be more thoughtful about the connection between these variables. This study examined 58 performance ratios for minority banks in 1980 and 1988. Its purpose was to evaluate the impact of deregulation on high and low performance minority banks. The study found that deregulation had a positive impact on those banks in the high performance groups in 1980 and a negative affect on those banks in the low performance groups in 1980. The study also found minority banks, in general, needed to improve management efficiency. Management efficiency of low performance minority banks seemed to have deteriorated in the deregulation period. The authors suggest that low performance minority banks be given closer regulatory supervision and aid in developing efficient management in their organizations.

By invoking self-determination theory, we proposed an integrated, multilevel model to investigate the impact of a high-performance work system (HPWS) on employees’ job crafting through autonomous motivation, along with the moderation effect of initiative climate. Adopting a three-wave, time-lagged research design, we collected data from 615 employees of 54 Chinese companies. The results of multilevel path analysis revealed that (1) HPWS is positively related to employees’ job crafting; (2) HPWS has a positive impact on employees’ autonomous motivation; (3) employees’ autonomous motivation positively affects their job crafting; (4) employees’ autonomous motivation mediates the positive relationship between HPWS and employees’ job crafting; (5) initiative climate moderates the relationship between employees’ autonomous motivation and job crafting; and (6) the indirect relationship between HPWS and job crafting through autonomous motivation is also moderated by initiative climate. The findings of this study provided several implications for job crafting research and for human resource management in organizations.

The scope of this paper is to investigate whether imitation strategies adopted by startups are effective in the pursuit of enhanced entrepreneurial innovation. To this end, a literature review was carried out in order to develop a research framework with factors related to imitation predicting entrepreneurial innovation. Moreover, managerial skills and entrepreneurial skills were incorporated as predictors of entrepreneurial innovation. In this respect, a structured questionnaire was developed to address these research objectives, based on scales tested in previous studies. In 2020, a survey was conducted on 486 startup owners operating in Greece, and a total of 289 responses were received. A hierarchical regression analysis was employed in order to examine the research framework. In congruence with the hypotheses, the findings demonstrated that outcome-based imitation strategies and trait-based imitation strategies positively affect the development of entrepreneurial innovation. Moreover, the positive impact of managerial and entrepreneurial skills on the development of entrepreneurial innovation was also confirmed. In contrast, the findings suggest that frequency-based imitation strategies negatively predict entrepreneurial innovation. However, outcome-based imitation and trait-based imitation strategies have been shown as the determinants with a positive impact on entrepreneurial innovation.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of educating adolescents in practical ways of looking after their backs to reduce the incidence of back‐pain, with particular focus on the use and carrying method of ergonomically designed schoolbags.Design/methodology/approachAn educational leaflet containing a range of back care information was designed specifically for a target population group of Year 7 schoolchildren, aged 11 to 12 years, and distributed to Year 7 students (n=682) attending three main secondary education schools in West Sussex during September 2004. A feedback form was used to evaluate the impact of the leaflet on one class in each school (total n=81).FindingsThe main findings in this paper indicated education had immediate positive impact on students' awareness of the importance of looking after their backs, and achieving positive back‐health. Information gained was likely to influence future choice of schoolbag type, and intention to change to more back‐health aware schoolbook and equipment carrying behaviours.Research limitations/implicationsThe paper shows that long‐term impact was not evaluated, and is a limitation of this study. Further research is required to evaluate the long‐term impact of education on back care in adolescents, and at which age optimum educational impact in this area is gained.Originality/valueThis paper contributes evidence, which could be used to inform national and international health agendas, focusing on the specific area of healthy back education for adolescents through a school‐based health promotion initiative.

            Lecturers have a very important role in determining the success and sustainability of the education sector so that lecturers are required to have high performance. The positive impact on the high performance of lecturers is not only for individuals but also on institutions, as the task of lecturers through educational institutions where work is obliged to produce quality students, and be able to compete in the global era. If the performance of lecturers is low the impact is the graduates produced are also questioned and doubted, by the job market. For this reason, the performance of lecturers is very important to always be improved, to ensure the future of the nation's young generation is able to compete in all respects. Lecturer performance is influenced by several factors developing lecturer performance, including organizational culture, and commitment to the organization. This research is explanatory or explanatory research.               This type of observational research with design The number of samples as many as 88 respondents from 737 findings in this study is that organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on the performance of PTS lecturers in Samarinda, the better the organizational culture in each campus will tend to improve the performance of lecturers. Organizational commitment has a negative and not significant effect on the performance of PTS lecturers in Samarinda. Lecturers are not easy if they are demanded to have high commitment because most lecturers are more likely to interact on campus when there are teaching schedules.

This study aimed to measure the impact of intellectual capital on firm performance of listed firms in Saudi stock exchange. The study methodology was a pooled data collected from the Saudi stock exchange (TADAUWL) for the period from 2012 to 2014. The study sample is 489 observations from 171 listed firms. The study independent variable is Intellectual Capital components (HCE, SCE and CEE). The dependent variable is firm performance which measured using ROA, ROE and Tobin’s Q. The study also utilized five control variables in order to help measure the relationship between Intellectual Capital and Firm Performance. In conclusion, the study found that the Intellectual Capital level tends to be higher with firms that have high performance. However, there is variation in the level across the sectors. Random effect regression model was incorporated; the results revealed that there is no significant impact of Intellectual Capital on firm’s operational performance (ROA). However, there is the significant positive impact of Human capital on financial performance (ROE). Additionally, the study concluded that there is the negative significant impact on structural capital efficiency and positive significant impact on Capital Employed Efficiency on firms’ market performance (TQ). These results are expected to broaden the understanding of IC and its impact on firms’ performance in GCC economies in general and specifically in Saudi economic. Moreover, it will be useful for GCC firms to place their priorities and financial plans for effective and efficient use of Intellectual Capital.
