Flipped learning approach has recently gained much more attention and has widely been utilized as a new approach to assist student-centered learning activities across different contexts of teaching. The present study aims to examine the effect of flipped learning instruction on undergraduate students’ development of higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Drawing on a quasi-experimental design, this study recruited 70 Chinese science education students enrolled in ‘teaching with technology’ course; they were equally divided into flipped (experiment) and non-flipped (control) groups. Data were obtained from pre-tests and post-tests in both groups using a higher order thinking skill test, and were analyzed by means of sample t-test using IBM-SPSS version 24. The results showed that flipped group students outperformed the non-flipped students in terms of HOTS performance. There was a significant different between the results of flipped group students’ pre-test and post-test scores (p-value: 0.000 0.05). It suggests that the flipped learning instruction has a significant effect on the Chinese undergraduate students’ HOTS development. This study contributes to providing valuable insights for instructors and college curricula designers to incorporate flipped learning approach in teaching at university level.

This study is aimed at (1) analyzing reading exercises based Bloom’s taxonomy for VIII grade in English on Sky textbook. (2) Found the distribution of the lower and higher order thinking skill in reading exercises. (3) To reason for level reading exercises. After analyzed the data, the result of the data analysis also infers that the six levels of Bloom’s taxonomy in reading exercises weren’t applied totally. The creating skill doesn’t have distribution in reading exercise, and the understanding – remembering level more dominant than another levels. The distribution of the higher order thinking level was lower than the lower order thinking level and the six levels are not appropriate with the proportion for each level of education based Bloom’s taxonomy, such as the distribution of the creating level in the reading exercise must be a concern because no question that belong to the creating level. It was concluded that reading exercises in English on Sky textbook cannot improve students' critical thinking skills for VIII grade.

Kata-kata kunci; geometri, higher-order thinking skillMathematical thinking habit, especially at the higher-order thinking skill (HOTS) level, is an important tool for developing ideas openly and diverging. But this is an problem because teachers do not have a comprehensive understanding of HOTS and the HOTS level questions yet. This problem must be solved immediately by providing a complete understanding of HOTS and training them to compile HOTS mathematics problems especially on geometry through the training of  developing HOTS Level Geometry questions. The subjects of this training were 29 elementary school teachers which took place at SDI Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2 Kota Kupang. The method of this activity is discourse, question and answer, discussion and presentation. After being given training, the teacher is guided to make HOTS level questions on geometric content that will be used in learning and test activities in the classroom. The results obtained are 1) the teacher has the same understanding of HOTS. The results of the pretest and posttest showed a change in conceptions about HOTS which was defined as the level of thinking analysis, critical and creative, 2) able to develop teacher thinking skills in preparing HOTS level question instruments. 3) growing the teacher's quality commitment to the development of students' mathematical thinking skills. Keywords; geometry, higher-order thinking skill
