1. Insects are responsible for the quantity and quality of one-third of all agricultural production worldwide through pollination. The quality of the pollination service and the safety of the honey production depends on the health and nutritional condition of the hives, which, for an important part is related to management practices. 2. This study aims to identify the stressors that lead to the loss of bee health and its consequences for the productivity of the hives. Different aspects related to management practices, productivity, clinical observations related to diseases, presence of health issues in the hives or in the apiaries, to the structure of the hives, weather and infestation rates by Varroa sp. mites were measured. The information was collected during two field surveys in 53 apiaries in the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina. 3. The results show correlations among many of the management practices, health condition and productivity of the hive, with most importantly the change of the bee queen, the disinfection of the beekeeping material and the number of combs in the brood chamber. 4. Although honey production is important in the region, the hive structure was deficient and inadequate during both surveys. Due to its dependence on management by the beekeeper, this suggests that a holistic approach can improve the hive structure, increasing the honey production.

Environmental health is referring to the health of people in relation to environmental quality. Due to rapid urbanisation, more people are living in urban neighbourhoods. Urban planning and design aspects including the neighbourhood environment are potentially affecting the human healthy lifestyle and health condition. Thus, the relationship between Malaysian neighbourhood environmental aspects and human health has become the concern of this research. One of the neighbourhood units in Shah Alam city had been chosen as the study area for this purpose. Questionnaire survey had been carried out to examine the health condition and physical activeness of residents. Besides, the perception of residents on the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects also had been collected in the questionnaire survey. The health condition of residents was measured by non-communicable diseases (NCD) and the physical activeness was measured in duration as well as the frequency of physical exercise activities. The study found that the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects significantly increased the physical activeness of respondents. The physical activeness was positively associated with human health as measured in NCD (heart diseases and high blood pressure, HBP). It shows that neighbourhood environmental (physical and social) aspects are potentially affecting the healthy life of people living in the neighbourhood.Keywords: Healthy life, Neighbourhood environment, Non-communicable diseases (NCD), Physical activeness, Quality.

Penyakit jantung koroner adalah penyakit yang dapat mengancam kehidupan seseorang. Pelaksanaan tindakan non bedah intervensi koroner perkutan pasien masih memiliki risiko terjadinya serangan berulang, stenosis dan ancaman kematian. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi kualitas hidup pasien pascatindakan intervensi koroner perkutan. Desain penelitian ini adalah potong lintang. Pengambilan sampel secara consecutive samplingdidapatkan 50 responden yaitu pasien yang sedang kontrol pascaintervensi coroner per kutan di Poliklinik Spesialis Jantung RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung, penelitian ini dilakukan pada 1-14 November 2013. Kualitas hidup diukur dengan instrumen WHOQOL-BREFdengan empat domain kualitas hidup yaitu domain fisik, psikologis, sosial, dan lingkungan. Analisis menggunakan statistik deskripsi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa responden memiliki kualitas hidup baik sebesar 50%. Perawat memiliki peran dalam membantu pasien mencapai kualitas hidup yang optimal, diantaranya melalui peningkatan efikasi diri pasien melalui pendampingan dan pemberian informasi dalam usaha mencapai kualitas hidup.Kata kunci:Intervensi koroner perkutan, kualitas hidup, WHOQOL-BREF AbstractCoronary heart disease is a disease that can threaten person’s life, and can lead to the change of the quality of life. This coronary heart disease can be solved with non-surgical called percutaneous coronary intervention. This action will be normalized the quality of perfusion in the coronary arteries, which would certainly have an impact on the quality of life of patients. The research objective was to observe the patient of quality of life after treatment on intervention percutaneous coronary. The research design was cross sectional. There were 50 respondents taken by consecutive sampling. Data were collected in outpatient room in RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung, who have came with treatment routine schedule after percutaneous coronary intervention during November 1st–14th 2013. The questionnaire use WHOQOL-BREF format with 26 questions that consisting of 4 domains of quality of life: physical domain, psychological domain, social domain, and environment domain. Majority of patients were male (74 %), with the range of age mostly 56-66 years ( 34 % ), married ( 96 % ), college education was the highest ( 66 % ), the majority had not a primary job like as housewife , retired, student, etc. ( 26 % ). Data were collected using the questionnaire WHOQOL – BREF. The result have shown that rates of quality of life was good ( 50 % ) and health condition after percutaneous coronary intervention neither satisfied nor dissatisfied ( 44 % ). Abstract Women have a 1-in-8 lifetime risk of breast cancer. Earlier diagnosis and treatment advances have improved 15- and 20-year survival rates. Increased survival can mean coping with the effects of cancer and its treatment over an extended period of time, while experiencing age-related changes in functioning and the emergence of other health issues. To explore breast cancer survivors’ perspectives on their issues and concerns across the life-course, focus groups were conducted with a culturally diverse sample (N=18) of survivors (72% white, 28% Black, 11% Hispanic). Participants were 44-82 years old. Most, 83% were 50 and older, 56% were 60 and older. The majority (83%) were diagnosed in their 40’s and 50’s. Two were diagnosed in their early 30’s and one at age 68. Participants reaffirmed the necessity, as a breast cancer survivor, of being a life-long health advocate on their own behalf, and the importance of being self-informed. As one woman commented: “Knowledge is power”. Survivors shared that their emergent health issues were complicated by their cancer history, and, that, as a cancer survivor, “I never stop worrying”. A widespread concern was not knowing if the health issues and co-morbidities they experienced (such as joint pain, neuropathy, tendinitis, heart disease), were age-related, a consequence of their cancer, or a late treatment effect. An overriding sentiment expressed was that clinicians have not recognized the importance of quality of life in cancer survival. As a survivor succinctly stated: “We are living longer, but we need to live long with quality of life.”

High stress levels and sleep deprivation may cause several mental or physical health issues, such as depression, impaired memory, decreased motivation, obesity, etc. The COVID-19 pandemic has produced unprecedented changes in our lives, generating significant stress, and worries about health, social isolation, employment, and finances. To this end, nowadays more than ever, it is crucial to deliver solutions that can help people to manage and control their stress, as well as to reduce sleep disturbances, so as to improve their health and overall quality of life. Technology, and in particular Ambient Intelligence Environments, can help towards that direction, when considering that they are able to understand the needs of their users, identify their behavior, learn their preferences, and act and react in their interest. This work presents two systems that have been designed and developed in the context of an Intelligent Home, namely CaLmi and HypnOS, which aim to assist users that struggle with stress and poor sleep quality, respectively. Both of the systems rely on real-time data collected by wearable devices, as well as contextual information retrieved from the ambient facilities of the Intelligent Home, so as to offer appropriate pervasive relaxation programs (CaLmi) or provide personalized insights regarding sleep hygiene (HypnOS) to the residents. This article will describe the design process that was followed, the functionality of both systems, the results of the user studies that were conducted for the evaluation of their end-user applications, and a discussion about future plans.

The rum industry is currently worth USD 16 billion, with production concentrated in tropical countries of the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific regions. The primary feedstock for rum production is sugar cane molasses, a by-product of sugar refineries. The main variables known to affect rum quality include the composition of the molasses, the length of fermentation, and the type of barrels and length of time used for aging the rum. The goal of this review is to provide an overview of the impact of these variables on rum quality, and to highlight current challenges and opportunities in the production of rum from molasses. In order to achieve this, we review the relevant contemporary scientific literature on these topics. The major contemporary challenges in the rum production industry include minimising the effects of variability in feedstock quality, ensuring the fermentation process runs to completion, preventing microbial contamination, and the selection and maintenance of yeast strains providing optimum ethanol production. Stringent quality management practices are required to ensure consistency in the quality and organoleptic properties of the rum from batch to batch. Further research is required to fully understand the influences of many of these variables on the final quality of the rum produced.

The physical environment plays an essential role in customers’ hotel stay experiences. Hotels offer a differentiated atmosphere that creates favorable customers’ evaluations. Based on the significant role of environmental cues, this study investigates the effects of an expanded servicescape on customers’ evaluations, including customer satisfaction, quality of life, and customer loyalty, in the context of the hotel industry. To test the proposed research framework, this study collects data from previous hotel customers and conducts a self-administered, online survey. Findings identified ambience, interactions with employees, authenticity, and fascination positively influenced customers’ satisfaction, which further influenced customer loyalty. Only ambience and fascination positively influenced quality of life, which in turn influenced customer loyalty. Results contributed to the application of expanded servicescape in the hotel context. Results also suggested practical implications of the holistic approach of servicescape in the hotel industry.

Abstract The paternalistic approach to health professional-patient communication is often no longer successful. The main reasons for this include the fact that trust in medicine and health professionals is no longer taken for granted. In many domains, the concepts of 'expert' and 'science' are in shadow. Moreover, patients can access all sorts of health information, including information that is or seems inconsistent with the advice given by their health professionals. This talk aims to illustrate some basic approaches to communication that can enhance health professional-patient interaction. First, health professionals should consider their communication with patients as a form of persuasion. Persuasion, that does not equal manipulation, is a way to communicate that takes into consideration the knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes of interlocutors. By adopting a person-centered style, health professionals should present their advice by contextualizing it into the emotional and cognitive setting of the patients. Second, communication should consider the lived experience of patients, that is the impact that a health condition or a preventive behavior has on their quality of life and their experience of pleasure. Indeed, managing health conditions is not just applying health advice: it often demands a change in lifestyles that can negatively impact how patients live their lives. Third, health professionals should develop clear strategies to engage with information that patients find from other sources. Health professionals must ask patients if they disagree with them, and to clarify any eventual difference of opinion. The information age has positively favored a democratization of health information. Yet, it imposes that health systems care for their communication. This talk concludes by presenting main evidence from on how to reinforce hospitals, public health institutions, and health services in communication so that patients want to listen.
