This paper presents materials on the incidence of children with ixodiс tick-borne borreliosis in the Ulyanovsk region for the period 1996—2017.28 cases of tick-borne borreliosis among children were recorded. Tick suction in April-May was observed in 6 (21.4%) children, in June—August — in 12 (42.9%), in September—November — in 10 (35.7%). Migratory erythema was detected in 15 patients (53.6%). In half of the cases, moderate intoxication symptoms were observed (57.1%). Borreliosis was confirmed laboratory early in 75% of cases. Thus, a feature of ixodiс tick-borne borreliosis in children in the Ulyanovsk region is: detection of the disease during the period of tick activity, that is, in the early stages; equal ratio of erythema and non-erythhema forms; the prevalence in the clinic of mild symptoms of intoxication; laboratory confirmation in 75% of cases in the early stages. The presence of migratory erythema in the patient gives reason for the diagnosis of ixodiс tick-borne borreliosis even in the absence of positive results of a serological examination.

Objective: to study the clinical and epidemiological features of tularemia to identify its differences from other diseases. flowing with lymphadenopathy. Materials and methods The study included patients living in the Kirov region undergoing tularemia from 2012 to 2018. For the laboratory confirmation of the diagnosis of tularemia used agglutination with tularemia antigen and a method of solid phase ELISA. The results Among the patients were dominated by citizens (63.4%). All cases were recorded in the summer. Infection usually occurred during the bites of flying insects. The most common manifestations of the disease were fever and lymphadenitis. Among the clinical forms prevailed ulcero – glandular (71,7%). The correct diagnosis at the prehospital stage is exhibited only in 28.6% of patients. Conclusion Tularemia remains an actual natural focal infection. To reduce the incidence of disease, it is necessary to increase the volume of vaccination of the population and regularly improve the knowledge of physicians with regard to endemic infections in the region.

The results of the above described experiments suggest that Abderhalden's reaction may be of use in the study of protozoal diseases. In the case of East Coast Fever it is seen that in early stages of the disease only the lymphatic and suprarenal glands seem to be affected, whilst in later stages destruction of tissue takes place in practically all the organs, and this corresponds with the results of microscopical examinations of the various tissues.Various experiments were performed with dogs infected with Babesia canis, but in most cases, owing to the presence of haemoglobin in the serum, the controls gave positive results as well as the organs + serum. The blood of a dog taken at the commencement of the infection was found to contain substances having a destroying action on liver tissue, but not on the other organs employed, whilst in later stages of the disease practically all the organs were affected.

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was a new emerging disease with high infectiousness. Its diagnosis primarily depended on real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) results. This study investigated epidemiological, clinical, and radiological characteristics of COVID-19 with negative RT-PCR results before confirmation. Methods Patients with COVID-19 were enrolled and divided into 2 groups: a negative group with negative RT-PCR results before confirmation and a positive group with positive results at the first detection. Epidemiological and clinical features were compared. Dynamic chest computerized tomography (CT) images of the negative group were evaluated. Results Ninety-nine laboratory-confirmed patients with COVID-19 including 8 patients (8%) with negative RT-PCR results were included. Patients from the negative group had similar epidemiological features: the average age (50.25 ± 13.27 years in the negative group and 53.70 ± 16.64 years in the positive group) and gender distribution (males made up 50% of the negative group and 62.6% of the positive group) were comparable. No significant differences were observed in clinical symptoms between the 2 groups. We found that fever was the most common symptom for both groups, followed by cough, expectoration, chest distress, fatigue, and gastroenterological symptoms. Moreover, ground-glass opacities and consolidations were the main manifestation in chest CT of patients with COVID-19 with or without confirmed RT-PCR results. Conclusions Regardless of initial RT-PCR results, patients with COVID-19 had similar epidemiological, clinical, and chest CT features. Our study suggests value from early chest CT scans in COVID-19 screening and dynamic significance of radiology in disease monitoring should guide clinical decisions.

Abstract The paper presents the results of bacteriological and molecular investigations on the presence of Y. enterocolitica O:9 in the head, mammary and genital lymph nodes, spleen, liver, and uterus samples originating from 58 cows slaughtered due to the positive results of serological examinations for brucellosis. All samples were cultured for Brucella and Y. enterocolitica and examined in multiplex PCR assay (mPCR), in order to identify the universal 16S rRNA Brucella sp. marker and amplify the perosamine synthetase (per) gene, specific for Y. enterocolitica O:9 only. Out of 58 examined animals, in 23 cases the presence of Y.enterocolitica was demonstrated. Typical Yersinia-suspected colonies were seen after 24-48 h incubation on Cefsulodin-Irgasan- Novobiocin (CIN) Yersinia selective solid medium. The mPCR analysis confirmed the presence of predicted amplicon of 312 bp, typical for Y. enterocolitica O:9 in 20 out of 58 lymph node samples tested and similarly, as in bacteriological examination, other samples were negative. The presence of the 16S rRNA gene of Brucella, generating the amplicon of 905 bp, was not observed in any of the samples tested.

It is well known, that the injury of organs and systems and also immunological rates considerably determine clinical course and the result of brucellosis. In the article are presented the results of examination of 120 patients with acute brucellosis. The control group included 30 practically healthy persons. Groups were representative by the age and sex. The diagnosis of brucellosis was set on the base of complaints, anamnesis, epidemiological and clinical data and the results of serological examination of the blood. All patients also underwent the fixation of interleukin -6, іinterleukin-4 and TLR-2 in the blood serum. The detailed epidemiological, clinical and immunological characteristic of patients with brucellosis was presented. Among examined persons prevailed men, persons of young able-bodied persons and rural dwellers. It was revealed, that the dominating way of transmission was the contact one. The highest level of infection was fixed among the workers of farm enterprises and veterinarians. The season features were also revealed, the highest level of morbidity was in summer-autumn period. The main clinical features were: fever, arthralgia, risen disposition to perspire, hepatosplenomegaly. It was revealed, that the level of pro-inflammatory interleukins considerably prevailed over the level of anti-inflammatory ones. Despite the high sensitivity of PCR diagnostics, the positive results in our research were received only in one third of patients.

We report a case of accidental infection by Trypanosoma cruzi in a 42-year-old female patient who presented an inoculation chagoma. Laboratory confirmation was based on examination of fresh blood, Giemsa-stained blood smear, immunoenzyme test (EIA-IgG), indirect immunofluorescence (IIF-IgM, IgG) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Only the PCR gave a positive result, and the EIA test was inconclusive. Two treatments with benznidazole were necessary. PCR was the only technique that continued to give positive results for approximately two months (65 days, or 2.2 months) following the second treatment and negative results from 96 days (3.2 months) to 850 days (28.3 months). We concluded that the presence of an inoculation chagoma and use of PCR were important and decisive for diagnosis and follow-up of the case.

The article discusses prospects for use of the theory of adaptogens in demand in medicine and in the fish breeding practice. The obtained results show that the adaptogens use at the early stages of catfish ontogenesis (Clarias Gariepinus, Burchell 1822) can cause the condition of nonspecific increased resistance and expand the adaptive flexibility range of this specie. Adaptogen trekrezan used in our experiments (Oxyethylammonium methylphenoxiacetate) is a synthetic analogue of the natural ginseng. Its application in the embryo culture process has shown positive results. It has reduced the level of the developmental anomaly, increased the first stage larvae hatching and their viability, significantly decreased the mortality rate and reduced the level of cannibalism common for catfish larvae. We have determined that the larvae breeding in the trekrezan medium has considerably increased their growth rate, and weight gain. The obtained results are new, and the adaptogens use at the early stages of ontogenesis in industrial catfish aquaculture is recommended. The Russian Foundation for Basic Research has supported our study with the grant No. 18-416-730005.

Laboratory confirmation of HIV infection is primarily through the detection of HIV antibodies in an individual. Using the current immunoassays and confirmatory testing, false-positive results are exceedingly rare. However, providers should use clinical judgment when interpreting test results and consider additional follow-up testing when appropriate. False-negative immunoassays are also exceedingly rare except for individuals who are early in their infection and have yet to produce HIV antibodies that are detectable by current assays. Rapid HIV tests have similar testing accuracies as compared to those of currently available immunoassays and can be useful testing options for settings such as health fairs, nonclinical locations, and other situations in which quickly receiving preliminary test results would be beneficial.

Our understanding of the structure and the formation of inorganic minerals in the bivalve shells has been considerably advanced by the use of electron microscope. However, very little is known about the ultrastructure of valves in the larval stage of the oysters. The present study examines the developmental changes which occur between the time of conception to the early stages of Dissoconch in the Crassostrea virginica(Gmelin), focusing on the initial deposition of inorganic crystals by the oysters. The spawning was induced by elevating the temperature of the seawater where the adult oysters were conditioned. The eggs and sperm were collected separately, then immediately mixed for the fertilizations to occur. Fertilized animals were kept in the incubator where various stages of development were stopped and observed. The detailed analysis of the early stages of growth showed that CaCO3 crystals(aragonite), with orthorhombic crystal structure, are deposited as early as gastrula stage(Figuresla-b). The next stage in development, the prodissoconch, revealed that the crystal orientation is in the form of spherulites.
