SummaryDespite the clinical benefit associated with the combined use of aspirin and clopidogrel in patients with acute coronary syndrome or those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, a considerable interindividual variability in response to these drugs have been consistently reported. There is a growing interest on applying platelet functional tests with the goal of identifying patients at increased risk of recurrent ischaemic events and potentially tailoring antiplatelet treatment regimens.This manuscript will review the state of the art on the most commonly available platelet functional tests, describing their advantages and disadvantages and exploring their applicability in clinical practice.

Thyroid disease often causes unspecific or mild symptoms, so laboratory tests are needed to confirm the functional diagnosis of the thyroid disorder. The laboratory tests which are important to establish the diagnosis of thyroid disorder include: total and free thyroidhormones, its related (thyroid) hormone binding proteins and auto antibodies. The thyroid hormone tests are mostly measured with competitive or sandwich immunoassays and each method can be interfered by several factors. Some drugs may increase or decrease thethyroid functional tests and several factors such as: underlying diseases, age, pregnancy, occurrence of heterophil antibody and auto antibodies may also interfere the thyroid tests results. The interpretation of an unusual combination from thyroid stimulating hormonesuch as free thyroxin and tri-iodothyronine results needs confirmation of underlying condition for establishing the right diagnosis. This review is aimed to evaluate several factors which may influence the thyroid tests and interpretation.

Abstract Depending on the field of application the ICs have to meet requirements that differ strongly from product to product, although they may be manufactured with similar technologies. In this paper a study of a failure mode is presented that occurs on chips which have passed all functional tests. Small differences in current consumption depending on the state of an applied pattern (delta Iddq measurement) are analyzed, although these differences are clearly within the usual specs. The challenge to apply the existing failure analysis techniques to these new fail modes is explained. The complete analysis flow from electrical test and Global Failure Localization to visualization is shown. The failure is localized by means of photon emission microscopy, further analyzed by Atomic Force Probing, and then visualized by SEM and TEM imaging.

Abstract In this paper we report on the application field of Dynamic Laser Stimulation (DLS) techniques to Integrated Circuit (IC) analysis. The effects of thermal and photoelectric laser stimulation on ICs are presented. Implementations, practical considerations and applications are presented for techniques based on functional tests like Soft Defect Localization (SDL) and Laser Assisted Device Alteration (LADA). A new methodology, Delay Variation Mapping (DVM), will also be presented and discussed.

Functional tests used in the catheterization laboratory have emerged as a very important adjunctive tool to coronary angiography that can identify patients with myocardial blood flow impairment. Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) measurement is highly recommended for detection of ischemia-related coronary lesion(s) when objective evidence of vessel-related ischemia is not available. Recently, the much simpler instantaneous wave free ratio (iFR) was proposed as an alternative to FFR without the requirement for administration of vasodilators. More user-friendly techniques like iFR might further contribute to value-based care in coronary interventions.

Objective: Analyze postural control in the bipedal position as well as during gait and functional tests in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus after supervised and unsupervised proprioceptive training. Design: A three-group randomized controlled trial. Setting: Physiotherapeutic Resources Lab, Department of Health Sciences, Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo Subjects: Eighty patients with type 2 diabetes allocated to three groups: control, home training, and supervised training. Interventions: The supervised and home training groups performed two weekly sessions of proprioceptive exercises for 12 weeks. The control group was not submitted to any of treatment. Main measures: Bipedal balance, gait, and performance on functional tests were evaluated before and after 12 weeks using the Balance Evaluation Systems Test (BESTest) and the force plate. Results: No significant improvements were found regarding postural control, gait, or performance on the functional tests, as evidenced by the inter-group comparisons of the total BESTest score [control: 90.7 (81.5–92.6); home training: 85.2 (77.8–90.3); supervised training: 88.4 (82.6–91.4), P > 0.05] as well as the tests performed on the force plate ( P > 0.05). The clinical effect size of the proposed intervention was less than 0.2, demonstrating no effect for the main outcome variable evaluated by the “Sensory Orientation” item of the BESTest and by the mCTSIB (pressure plate). Conclusions: The proposed proprioceptive training did not lead to improvements in postural control in patients with type 2 diabetes with no clinical signs of diabetic distal polyneuropathy when analyzed using the BESTest clinical evaluation and a force plate.
